What would you say if I told you that after I walked away from God (For 2-3 years) I joined in with many ex-Christians online and atheists, and non believers. That I found that their testimonies and reasons for leaving Christianity were very good reasons.

Here are the top reasons people leave Christianity

Number 1. Christians
Number 2. Biblical inconsistencies
Number 3. Hell theology
Number 4. Lack of miracles
Number 5. Gods character

Of course there are many other reasons people leave their beliefs, but lets stick to these 5.

In my entire history with Christianity and the church, I have never heard any plausible reasoning in defense of these problems Christianity faces today. Oh there are so called answers, but they fall totally flat under careful scrutiny.

So how does one give a reasoned and sound answer to these things that make people leave God.

There is no valid reason to walk away from Christianity....an excuse is exactly that....just an excuse...John said they went out from us because they never were of us......

You know....remember the 70 that walked away from Jesus after he preached a particular "hard message" that they could not endure..........at the end of the day is there a valid reason to walk away....IMO NO.....

When he has walked into your life and you've known that living presence, you can't forget. Things can get rough and there may be questions and things you just don't understand as you go through life but the reality of God is an undeniable FACT to me. I can't call it faith anymore (the basic belief that he is). He demonstrates his presence. He is a person in my life whatever is going on with theology or other Christians.

Regarding Number 5: His Character. He is absolutely awesome! I LOVE him! He doesn't always do what I wish but he is great! He IS HIMSELF. I can see only a poor reflection but I'm still blown away!

Well I think it has to be valid on some level for there to be a choice, you know what I mean.

OK let me unpack these top 5 reasons.

Number 1. Christians: Christian behavior can be a good example to those who question the power of Jesus (God) who they all believe is living in them and therefore transforming them.

Number 2. Biblical inconsistencies: OK, well this is a sore issue. Christians or most of them believe that the bible is the inerrant word of God. But the people who exit the Christian arena think they have enough evidence to sink that opinion.

Number 3. Hell theology: This theology has done so much damage to so many people, they can not stay with a God who would burn or hurt them or anyone else.

Number 4. Lack of miracles: Enough said on that one, I too have not worked out why I see NOTHING!

Number 5. Gods character: Lots of people leave the faith behind because they see God as cruel and unjust, that in his goodness he is justified for slaying people, and stuff like that.

This is a sense-of-entitlement problem. Who is a human being to DEMAND that God MUST DO anything?

Yes, but are you picking and choosing how you want to see the Lord? He has teeth and can tear his enemies to pieces. He can become a raving drunk on the blood of his slain victims. I mean you got to keep the whole of Gods character in perceptive.

No I am not. It's how he shows HIMSELF. I do have his whole character in perspective. He hates evil and he promises judgement. I have no illusions about that. I wouldn't want to change it.

No, I just haven't worked out why I have not seen one documented case of a real miracle. This has nothing to do with me demanding for one from God.

Look at this way Lucy

When God does good to us it still hurts us, this is because of the unavoidable fact that we stole the knowledge of Good and Evil and the penalty of death still hangs over us.

1. Daily sanctification in every believer is process of growth and sanctification based upon a steady diet of the word of God and regardless....our walk is not based upon what everyone else does not does not do... The bible teaches us to keep our eyes on JESUS because everyone around us will disappoint us at one time or another.

2. So what....there are ways that seem right unto men, but the end thereof are the ways of death...and contrary to popular belief, in context there are no inconsistencies in the word and most people who "exit the arena" think they are all that and a bag of "crisps" when it comes to knowledge........

3. Just an excuse.....and God sends no one to hell....they send themselves by rejecting the free gift of eternal life....and God is more than fair....Creation speaks, the invisible things speak, God has dealt to every man a measure of faith, He gave his only SON, gives salvation free as a gift based upon simple faith etc....men and the lost have no excuse......

4. Much debate on this one.....and maybe many cannot see the forest due to the trees......most are oblivious to the little things because they are looking for the big things......and lest we forget....JESUS was clear.....an evil and adulterous generation is LOOKING for SIGNS and wonders......and a question.....When the beast comes on the scene he will be able to deceive MANY through the MIRACLES, SIGNS and WONDERS which he will preform...as well as the 2nd BEAST in the sight of the sight of the first beast....think about that for a minute and then apply the words cease, vanish and fail as found in 1st Corinthians 13

5. Refer to number 3...........just a cop out and an excuse and regardless.....NONE of the above alleviate the responsibility of men and or the response of GOD and what he will do......there is NO escaping God, his justice, judgment and or requirements............

Here are the top reasons people leave Christianity

Number 1. Christians
if you look to other people in the world to determine if you ought to have faith... ehhhh doesnt sound genuine to me to begin with
Number 2. Biblical inconsistencies
those dont exist....unless you read a false bible
Number 3. Hell theology
lol what? people stop following Jesus because they will go to hell if they do? nah.. if you have faith you understand what that actually means... youd be scared stiff
Number 4. Lack of miracles
again.. looking for reasons to have faith...
not a believer already
Number 5. Gods character
walk away from perfection? they obviously dont know Him... if they walk away
Of course there are many other reasons people leave their beliefs, but lets stick to these 5.

no one who has a genuine faith loses it...

God makes Himself known to His sheep

His sheep hear His voice

theres no walking away

(quoted my beliefs based on scripture to your list)

There is one reason they leave, They never had faith to begin with. (They were never of us, if they were, they never would have left—- the apostle John)

those 5 points you made, were excuses, not reasons.

A dog returns to his vomit, because he was always a dog (he never was made a new creature in christ)

Now i can see christian leaving churches because of some of those things, But not leaving God.

Some people grow bitter or angry toward God for one or more bad things that have happened in their lives. That can be another reason why people leave.

Q. Christians are flawed people still learning to walk with God. No one is sinless except Jesus. We are called to look upward to God For a reason to believe in Him..not other Christians.

2. The bible makes sense of the Holy spirit reveals its truth to you.without the Holy Spirit even the 12 Apostles who walked and learnt directly from Jesus, didn't understand it

3. What's wrong with help theology...sinners get punished isn't that what folks who want justice call for every day? Just most folks don't admit that They are sinners deserving punishment.

4. Miracles happen all the time, what is lacking is spiritual eye sight to see them.

5 maybe they don't understand God's character. Many Christians don't and teach false doctrines. Many are too lazy to study and pray and search for themselves so they just walk away and blame God for their laziness and get angry when they get chastened like spoiled kids who refuse to do any homework or chores.

God's character is love...love so great He doesn't let us stay mad unrepentant children expecting to be made kings, but disciplines us and teaches us to walk holy and pure lives after washing the flith of our sins from us and clothing us in His white robes.

This is an issue I think when churches reached God will make all our pain and suffering go away, God never promised this, If people came in knowing What God teaches (we will suffer because we are his) I would hope more people would not leave or fall when these things happen.

If that is all that was taught people would never enter church in the first place...we need to know why Jesus suffered for us before we can be at a mature place to be willing to suffer for others God's glory.

Amen, on that brother.

In a way I would like to believe that PennEd.
I can't imagine not being a believer. The things God has shown me and the road I took coming to Him is irreversible. If Jesus is not the author of our faith, we probably would walk away.

Hebrews 12:2: "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."

With the proper foundation, our faith is built on rock.
