Can you be saved by hearing and accepting the gospel without ever reading the bible? If faith in Jesus is the only way to salvation, then it's not the bible that really saves me.

A quick answer to your question is, yes. Hundreds of thousands have been saved that could not even read. But the Bible sustains our faith. It is our spiritual food and water.

Could you be saved without reading the Bible? Sure, why not.

For years after he roamed the Earth, all people had when it came to Jesus was word of mouth. It took many years for the Gospels to be written.

Doesn't Jesus himself do that?

Should we be dependent on the bible then?

Yes you can be saved, but the Bible helps in the sanctification of the saints...it helps us become mature and grounded in sound doctrines...discerning good from evil

That being said, the words of the Bible can be transmitted orally from one person to another through good Holy spirit lead discipleship.

The only problem is most folks don't practice memorizing and reciting Bible books from memory anymore. But we most of can retell the parables and spiritual lessons God teaches us through them.

Can you be saved without the Bible? Of course. Jesus saves, not the Bible. (And not your faith.)

Will you never read the Bible after you're saved? Only if, in your deepest quest, you are one of the very few people on earth who do not have access to the Bible, don't know it exists, and couldn't get it if you did. Considering there are very few, if any, of those people left on earth, I'm going with no! If you are saved you'll want to read the Bible, and will read it.

Have you?

Where do you think the Gospel is found? There would be no Gospel if there was no Bible. The Gospel -- also called "the Word of God" -- is "the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth" (Rom 1:16 KJB). Of course only God can save a soul, but He demands obedience to the Gospel in order to save sinners.

Yes, you can.

Bible is important for knowing that, because in history, church manytimes forgot what the salvation is and how to get it. Reformers had to re-discover it from the Bible.

If your looking for biblical proof look at the thief on the cross next to Jesus who was saved. He never once read the Bible or even knew Jesus very long

How do you know that "he never once read the Bible"? How do you think he figured out that there would be a real future Kingdom under Christ and then mentioned that to Jesus? When you consider what this man said to Christ, it was rather astute theologically.

Yes.

2 Timothy 3:

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Scripture is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

We are not going to find doctrine, reproof, correction, instruction in righteousness on our own. We certainly are not going to find these things by reading the newspaper, watching TV, or listening to worldly sources.

And when we are humble to the instruction from Scripture, we are equipped and furnished with all we need to do good works.

By age 13 most Jewish boys were suppose to orally recite the Torah from memory, at least that is what I heard was suppose to happen.

It was custom to spend days of listening the Torah read from Genesis and beyond, yearly..,.yet today how many have even read much less listen to the Bible read aloud in one sitting or even one year?

People complain if church service goes over their hourly allotment for God. What happened to week-long revivals and hearts moved to spend hours in worship and praise of God?

The Hebrew Bible -- the Tanakh -- was available when Jesus was alive, and it would appear that even the common people had some knowledge about Messiah. You will discover this as you go through the New Testament. Indeed even the Samaritans (who were not true Jews) knew about Messiah.

The [Samaritan] woman saith unto him, I know that Messias [Messiah] cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. (John 4:25)

Without obedience to the word of God - Christians can end with
with strange doctrines and dysfunctional worship.

The epistles in particular are instructions to the Spirit-filled church
on how to live as Christians, on proper worship and church conduct,
also explaining much doctrinal matters that need to be studied.
