I'd like to start of by saying that the Lord has granted me the understanding that I asked for an I am now praising him. I posted earlier today that I did not understand the OT which was due to the Lords wrath which despite myself I saw as unjust. Im happy to say I know longer see it that way and its due to the Lords blessings. This is the first time ive posted(at least I think it is) in the bible disscussion forum I have not finished Job yet Im on chapter 20ish and im quite elated I have a better understanding of Gods word and would like to disscuss it with people. It doesnt have to be Job any bible verses or books that stand out in your mind that you may want to disscuss. So its kind of a random thread.

you know what I was so eager to start the thread I forgot to give my thoughts on Job Im at the part were Job is being rather rude to his friends (I suppose id be too if my whole family died) I find it rather weird that God and Satan are talking so causaully. I guess thats not something I thought they would do. I'll have more thoughts when I finish

Actually should it be strange?
Satan was an angel of God's in the past so it's not surprising for them to speak to each other as if nothing happened.

Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?' "Therefore I have declared that which I did not understand, Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know." Job 42:3

Somethings are bringing a weightier glory for a better ending. 2 Cor. 4:17

What gives you the idea that Job was rude, since he wasn't?

in Job's defense his friends were accusing him of being a sinner or his kids being sinners and thus deserving to be punished, which God shows is a lie. He wasn't being punished for his sins at all.

i would like to read your thoughts on Job. I have been studying the book myself but haven't been able to put to words all my thoughts in any coherent form.

the main thing i have been looking at is the lies that Job's friends told and the main thing I got is they accused Job of sin when that wasn't the case at all and they accuse God of punishing Job when God was NOT punishing Job at all but allowing a testing of Job's faith.

Job does get depressed and wishes for death but he also looks for a Redeemer and a Mediator to speak on his behalf. We can praise God that HE sent us Christ Jesus to be our Redeemer and Mediator.

personally I believe Elihu is also a mediator and prophet that announces God's presence, but others accuse him of being worst than Job's three friends. I wonder what you believe? But that isn't until Chapter 32 so maybe in a few days.

I'm assuming Monnkai is referring to Job's talking on alot of things kind of a vent, but please don't give him a hard time about this, this isishis his first read through and he's just "sharing thoughts".

No, he said "discuss" not share his thoughts.

The thing about Job is that depending on how you look at his situation this whole ordeal is kind of messed up. Don't get me wrong I understand God's purpose for his suffering but I'm not gonna lie when I first read the book I was like what the heck man? You have this upright righteous man who God has blessed so vastly simply because of how highly he regards Job and how highly Job regards God, Job constantly praised and gave glory to God thanking him for his blessings and knowing that it all is a gift from God and then the devil comes and him and God make a bargain sending innocent job into a series of just awful unfair events that he did nothing to provoke.

But his faith is something on an entirely different level I am kind of jealous of how absolute his faith was, I mean even in going through the most fiery trials his faith was harder that any kind of steel he simply did not budge and even still gave God glory. The sad thing is it never says how he got to that point of faith or really anything about his life in the past, like what was his past like that molded his faith to be that absolute?

my brother, Job is from a time in history where societies were barbaric. Most of the world at that time saw God, gods, and godesses as wrathful and vengeful. Also, the book of Job is a parable, albeit a long one. Jesus taught in parables in order for people to seek out layers of truth. We are to do that with this book/parable as well.

Job is written as a historical narrative and referred to as such not as a parable.

before I read the rest of your posts (I read a few) I'd like to give my opinion on the book. My first impression is my goodness can everyone talk in this book! I thought Jobs speeches would last forever and I thought to myself several times is this almost over with? But in the Job was blessed even more which I thought was a good ending. What I got as the message was Trust God no matter how bad it seems. Thats what I got from it. One thing I dont understand and hope someone can explain is what did Jobs friends do wrong? I thought they all made good points

No, they didn't :
After the Lord had finished speaking to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite: “I am angry with you and your two friends, for you have not spoken accurately about me, as my servant Job has.
