Will all of my nice sax and guitar playing in churches over the past 40 years amount to anything on Judgement Day?

If you have done it for His glory, yes!
If you have done it for your glory, no!

Colossians 3:23-24 KJV
[23] And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; [24] Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

sax licks might put you closer to Hell :/ If the guitar licks were REALLY good, you might get a coffee mug or something I would imagine.

"And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be" (Revelation 22:12). Assuming your music inspires others, I believe you'll be rewarded, we reap in heaven what we sow on earth. "Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap" (Galatians 6:7). To him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward" (Proverbs 11:18). Nothing we do goes unnoticed, your efforts are never in vain.. jmo

No insult. It will matter about as much as the janitors duties after the congregation goes home .
No one should say that one part of the body is better than the other .
One member may be in the spotlight and the other in the shadows. Still we are all just a part of the body of Christ.
All are equally important for a congregation .
Blessings

I have a feeling you will be surprised exactly how much it mattered on that day. People fail to understand how much the little things really matter. Every small act of Godliness, every action of kindness, every word of encouragement and life has a very profound effect and purpose we just don't have the eyes to see it. Everyone loves to be used to do great and amazing things and yes those things will amount up on judgment day but God prefers to use the little everyday things to make a huge difference. Think of this if you will, imagine a pond and this pond is the world around you and the people around you and a small pebble falls into the pond and this pebble is you doing something such as an act of kindness or a word of encouragement or even playing your sax and guitar in church.

Now imagine if you will how when a rock or pebble falls into water how it creates ripples that grow and increase, the pebble has no idea just how far those ripples go yet it only took one small pebble to make those ripples. Imagine the ripples as the effect that one small action of yours did and again the pond is the world and people around you. Also consider this a downpour of rain is not made of one giant drop of water is it? it's made from millions of tiny little droplets. God is ingenious is this matter, he loves to use the little things we do that we don't consider to be anything good or special to show just how huge it really is.

Did you do it unto the Lord? Then it already amounts to something :)

If you brought people into the presence of the Lord, if you did it out of love for God of course it will. You brought Him pleasure!

Interesting question. What kind of music did you play? Why are you concerned about judgment day?

If your worship of God is from the heart, then yes it will.
If it is feigned worship, and not from the heart, then no it will not.

Psalm 17:1 Hear the right, O Lord, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.

About 30 years ago I went through a 12 step program because I had walked away from God and used drugs. One exercise was to imagine my tombstone and what hadn't I done and it was that I had stopped playing in a church band. So I did it ever since.

sounds like a "works doctrine" to me.

Look at all I've done... shouldn't I get "more" than those other folks?

Or, I played in worship services... THAT should help get me into heaven, right?

The only thing (IMO, of course) that God is looking for, from us, is for us to live our lives in a perpetual state of trying to be more like Jesus.

That, of course, will play out differently in each person's life.

edit: I'm not downplaying (no pun intended) your role in worship services at all.... bless you for doing it... I'm simply saying that we should not do things just so we can stand a better chance of getting into heaven.

Jesus would approve of your sacrifice, and your willingness to serve in that capacity... look at how he regarded the prostitute that bathed his feet with her tears. It's your attitude of being a servant that Jesus wants... IMO

Well Christians stand before the judgment seat of Christ and their works are tried by fire. The wood, hay and stubble are consumed while the precious gold, silver and jewels are refined. Christians do not stand before the GWT and are already passed from condemnation unto eternal life through Christ.

1 Cor 3:12-15.

2Co 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

No, not really. Perhaps you would be qualified to join the marching band. When I first read your post and thread title I thought it was about nice hot sex. This is strictly my bad. Either way, not much bearing on Judgement Day.

First read of post I thought that you were imagining about your trombone and not tombstone. You are obviously musically inclined. Again, strictly my bad.

God will judge you for the attitude of your heart while you were playing.

Hi Devotion!

Great thread topic. :)

Your question reminded me of one of my favorite Christmas songs, "The Little Drummer Boy."

If you're not familiar with the song, it's about a boy who is invited to go see the newborn baby Jesus, along with others who are "bringing their finest gifts" to give to Him.

The little boy laments that, "I am a poor boy, too... (Oh rum pum pum pum...) I have no gift to bring, that's fit to give our King... (Oh rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum", because the boy just can't stop playing on his drum.

And so, determined to find his own way to give a gift to the King of kings, the boy tells us that, "I played my drum for him, Oh rum pum pum pum... I played my best for him, Oh rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum..."

"Then... He smiled at me. Oh rum pum pum pum. Me... and my drum."

I first heard that song when I was maybe 7 years old.

And that last line STILL gives me goosebumps every. single. time.

I am sure that God has a smile for you as well, in response to how much you have given of yourself to worship Him. God bless, and keep on playing! :)
