Is it necessary? What good does it do?

Wondering what others think...

I'm really tempted to pick holes in your spelling, but that might make you apoplectic. ;)

Yes, it is necessary. It teaches Christians how to defend their faith against attacks from ardent skeptics, nonbelievers, and atheists.

What good does defending the faith do? It clarifies who God is and what the gospel is. It edifies those who know it, and works as a starting point to evangelize. It encourages and informs.

Why? Where's the problem?

How about an English minor? Anyway, Apologetics has its place, but it is generally a waste of time.

Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.

Yes, we must defend the faith from lies and attacks...

1 Peter 3:15-17:
"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil"

I've actually been watching some christians debate with a well known atheist, who in my opinion is quite dangerous because of how convincing he comes across to others, and how he attacks the scriptures. Important to get the truth out.

Yes Its nescessary,GOD said to love our neighbor and we are not perfect and whether we know we have offended our neighbor or If we are unaware that we have offended them until they have told us,we should make It right with them,GOD loved us and we should love our brother but apologizing to GOD as far as salvation IMO,Is a one time thing,I mean be conscience of your right standing to GOD.:)

The phrse give an answer and give a defense in that verse is the Greek word ἀπολογία (apologia), which is where the word apologetics comes from.

The reason for the hope I have is Jesus Christ. Everyone may not like that answer.

I spoke online with various atheists, agnostics, secular humanists, wiccans, polytheists, Satanists, and other deniers of the Truth of God's Word, over a period of eight years before I found Christian Chat. I was a fairly new Christian when I stumbled into apologetics, and it sure was eye opening  I learned a lot :) And I liked it ;)

Those who deny the Truth of God's Word hate that answer :(

The truth that they have no choice?

Yes, I am certain that will encourage them.

We are all servants of the Lord so we all need to be able to teach the Gospel with patient humility correcting those that oppose the Gospel, that the Lord may grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth.

II Timothy 2:20-26 “But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 22Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. 24And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.”

If you are going to witness to unbelievers who will not accept the word of God or even God Himself then you will need to know some apologetics.

You may need to use science or natural revelation to convey the gospel to them. It is good to have some basics in apologetics to address these situations.

Aplogetics means: reasoned arguments or writings in justification of something, typically a theory or religious doctrine.

or known as defending the faith. The Bible tells us we are to study to show our self learned 2tim 2:5

and 1pet 3:15 says
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and bereadyalways togive an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

the problem with " defending the faith" is more are concerned about winning the debate instead of winning the person. They want to be right while lacking to prove the word of God true. it is the motive of the person using the "Aplogetics" and the end result that will justfy it.

Did God direct it? or did you? what was the result of the defending the faith? Did God confrim it or did you just win the debate ?

I get it...it does feel futile to continue trying to verbally defend the truth when it seems soooo unhearable to the world.
