Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

This rest has notig to do with a Sabbath but with learning from Jesus directly.
to my knowledge, sabat is a Hebrew mean rest.

And yet still does what he knows he ought not, and fails to do that which he knows he should, which answers your question, would we even want to break the commandments with Jesus in our lives? The fact of the matter is, we all fail, even in loving the Lord as we ought.
Then there is hope for us all, and despite our failings He still loves us, sinners that we are saved by Grace, for which I say, "Thank you Lord."

The Hebrew word is shabbat and it does mean rest. Shalom (peace) is related to that.

Main Entry: Sab·bath

Pronunciation:
sab-

From Hebrew Shabbat, literally, "rest"

1 : the 7th day of the week observed from Friday evening to Saturday evening as a day of rest and worship by Jews and some Christians
2 : the day of the week (as among Christians) set aside in a religion for rest and worship

It's simple in your mind because you can only understand the attempt to keep the law as a person trying to justify themselves. You along with multitudes of others in the church are literally incapable of comprehending keeping the law of Moses for any other reason than for justification. You are only under the curse of the law for keeping it if you are keeping it for the express intent of justifying yourself.
That's not what scripture says. Scripture says that if you work at the law you are under the curse because you are on the hook for ALL of it.

Galatians 3:10
For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

The church doesn't seem to realize that it keeps part of the law, not all of it, yet it is not condemned. But they are quick to say that observant law keeping Christians are condemned because by keeping just one law they condemn themselves for not keeping all of it. If that's true for the church, then it is true for them.

But we know that's not true anyway. You are only obligated to keep the entire law to the letter if you are doing that to try to be justified. That is when nothing less than complete and perfect obedience to the letter of the law is required. But law keeping Christians do not keep the law for that purpose. So this claim that they have to keep all of it perfectly does not apply.
I'll let you in on a little secret.

There is no such thing as a law keeping Christian.

There are those who work at the law and fail. Because the law is not fulfilled by a persons carnal will and carnal strength.

And there are those who Rest in Christ.

May I ask why you pick and choose the laws that you follow?

For example, you don't make animal sacrifices (because Christ fulfilled those laws) yet you attempt to keep 'love your neighbor as yourself'-Leviticus 19:18.

Explain your reasons why you choose to do some of the law and it's okay, but that's not okay for others to do.
I don't pick and choose laws.

I am dead to laws.

I am alive to Christ and His Holy Spirit.

...Only if being 'under the law of sin and death' means trying to be justified by the law.
It means working at it because your carnal understanding has told you that is what is right and good.

What is this talk about resting from the 10 Commandments?
Faith in Christ upholds the law of Moses-Romans 3:31.
I don't think you understand what you have just said.

You get one or the other. Your work at the 10 commandments or Rest in Christ by Faith.

Faith in Christ DOES fulfill the law of Moses. Your carnal understanding and carnal work does not.

Why is seeking to be obedient always you working in your own strength? Can't it ever be a person seeking to follow the Spirit at work in them leading them to be obedient?
You are seeking to be obedient to your own understanding of which laws you think are most important.

That is not obedience.

Then please explain why you only keep part of it then.
I don't look to the law to try and keep any of it in my own understanding.

I look to Christ and He grows the fruit of obedience in me.

Any time I attempt to grow these fruit by my own understanding and strength I fail. Without the Lord Jesus Christ we can do nothing.

Coming to Him and receiving Rest should have shown us that.

Galatians 3:24-25
[SUP]24 [/SUP]Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
[SUP]25 [/SUP]But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

DO you see the parallels here? Do you see what Christ is telling us?

Those who are preaching law. and telling everyone we must follow the law. are in no ways doing this thing, They are to focused on self (how good they are and what law they need to follow) and not others.
That's a pretty harsh condemnation of James.

Did it ever occur to you that someone, like James, tells the church to keep various laws because you are to be conscious of others?

Shabbat does mean rest, but it does not stop there. It means peace. It means health. It means wealth or welfare, and it means much more.

To ask a person how he is one s0ays "Ma SHLOMCHA?" this addressing a man. And Mah shomech? to a woman

The wod shalom is there in one of its forms.

Now, what does this truly mean in relation to Christ giving us rest by His taching? Read the post after the post you have replied.

This is so true for so many. I am surprised they even keep their employmnet. You know once some folks have named the Name
they claim they should be automatically rich........

The treasure of believers is to come..........but you probably already know this..

Heb 11:36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
Heb 11:37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;
Heb 11:38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

All of the above brethren were at peace, I am certain, but it does not seem they were in eternal rest.

I would like all the people who thing obedience is not necessary according to how the law has been fufilled by our Lord, Jesus christ.

It is quite extraordinary that so many come into these forums saying obedience is being "under the law."

We obey after know Jesus Christ to show some gratitude.

Get off the high horse and walk on the dirt as do the rest of us.....

There is a brother in Christ for whom I feel compelled tto pray for his rest and wellbing. Why? He is working laying concrete after a long hiatus, and because heis out of shape he gets blisters and very tired. He also loves our Maker in Jesus Christ. I suppose this one also believes in error for you wh are resting unti Christ's return.

I also have a beautiful and wonderful, and very dear sister who is working very hard to help her married childre and herself and husband............she also has blisters and some tendon problemks. Now is this wonderful caring wife and mother failing in her belief?

I think not, and I believe her work for her family, just as her husband's and her adult children's, is work given her by the Father.

So you folks who have all that rest forever, keep telling them they should have it too, but I know them and I know they will work and never rest until Jesus returns.

By the way, do any of you most privileged folks remember how Jesus declared "My Father workis, and I do the works, and so must I!" You know that was on the Sabbath. My family in Christ works because we are now the Boby of Jesus on earth. As long as we are in this age allied to corruption and general decay, we must do the works of our Father and Savior.

Please stop boasting of all that rest you claim.........it will not float any spiritual boat.

Physically Rich may not rest. Some rich do not have rest. But in Jesus we find rest in our soul.

Say this to all the brethren who follow Jesus Christ especiall mentioned inthe following

Heb 11:36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

Heb 11:38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

YOu seem not to be able to distinguish between the peace of Jesus and rest...........If you do not perform the works graced upon you by our Father, you will be explaining it all to Him.

Happily dmost people are constantly working the graced works without always knowing.........because others do not telll
them their works count........big time Praie God, amen.

Oh, I know of a man who rested all the time. He was a preacher. He amassed monies from his
congregation, enought to buy planes to go to Africa to spread tehWord, so he said.

It turns out this man was dealing in diamonds and using the planes for hauling supplies to and from the mines he squired.

Oh yes, this one rested a lot, on the backs of his congregation.......

So you believe rest in soul that Jesus give to us when we come to Him may not make our soul peace?

What? You further want me to confess to something you have decided? Leave that for the witch huinters.

We are HIS workmanship created In CHRIST unto good works so then don't conform to the world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds so that we can prove what Is that good and acceptable and perfect will of GOD.
