Would you say a saved person could temporarily be deceived by false prophets, even about the Gospel?

When i first heard the Gospel i happily received it. I just thought its too good of an offer to say no to, even though i obviously had some doubts from a whole lifetime of the world telling me otherwise creeping in. I suppose i believed enough to bow my head and pray afterwards.

After that i sometimes thought that its too good to be true and kinda sought out "other versions" (i understand there is only one) and in that process heard a whole bunch of false doctrine.

Yesterday, and sometimes before that, i realized that some of this false doctrine did stick to me.

For example, i used to say "believing means trusting in the finished work of Christ on the cross alone to save you".

Yesterday however i heard a pastor (Steven Anderson) and saw my error corrected. The "finished work of Christ on the cross" is his sinless life. He obviously still had to pay for our sin in hell and rise again. I left those parts out with my saying.

Clearly i spread false doctrine about the Gospel, even though i firmly believed myself to be saved.

My question: Could a saved person temporarily be saved about even the Gospel or was i saved just now?

Please help me understand. Thank you so much.

I first heard the Gospel from Anderson and because he is just a man decided to not fully trust him, thats why i went and looked for other pastors. In those i often saw many errors and therefor always came back to Andersons sermons.

I see no fault in his preaching.

Yes a saved person can be deceived.

This is what counts

Romans 10:8-13
8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

I think that the word 'temporarily' is the key to a sound answer.

I fully believe John 16:13
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
KJV

means exactly what it says. However this guidance is NOT necessarily immediate. If we misunderstand a passage of Scripture, I believe that the Holy Spirit will indeed correct us in God's own time.

Of course it's possible for a saved person to err in knowledge and be deceived. It won't last, though, with a son of GOD.

Christians can err in understanding. Hence the proviso "even the elect."

Hello CB, and Welcome to CC.
Would you say a saved person could temporarily be deceived by false prophets, even about the Gospel?
Yes. Deception can be very subtle, since false prophets generally mix some truth with lots of error.
When i first heard the Gospel i happily received it. I just thought its too good of an offer to say no to, even though i obviously had some doubts from a whole lifetime of the world telling me otherwise creeping in. I suppose i believed enough to bow my head and pray afterwards.
That was very good. Receiving the Gospel with the simplicity and humility of a child is what God delights in.
After that i sometimes thought that its too good to be true and kinda sought out "other versions" (i understand there is only one) and in that process heard a whole bunch of false doctrine.
This was a serious mistake. After you were saved you should have been baptized as a believer and been in fellowship with sound mature Christians who could disciple you. Hopefully you have a church which is bibilical

You were partially correct but Steven Anderson is way off base. Evidently he holds to the false doctrine that after the crucifixion, Jesus entered Hell (the Lake of Fire) to be tormented there and pay for our sins. There are a lot of Word of Faith false teachers who promote this false doctrine. When Scripture has Christ saying "thou wilt not leave my soul in hell" that word transalted as "hell" is actually the Greek word Hades, which is the same as Sheol in the Old Testament. It is located in "the lower parts of the earth" or "the heart of the earth" and that is where Christ was with the righteous dead. Hades had two "compartments" or regions -- one for the righteous dead, the other for the unrighteous dead -- and they were separated by a vast chasm.

But if you recall the Lord Jesus Christ proclaimed victoriously from the Cross "IT IS FINISHED". Which meant that He finished the work of redemption on the Cross itself, and God the Father confirmed it by tearing the temple veil from top to bottom at the same time. After Christ made that proclamation, He went to the spirits in prison (Hades) to proclaim His victory over sin, death, Hades, Hell, and Satan. He certainly DID NOT suffer in Hades, but the saints rejoiced since they would go to Heaven after the three days and three nights were completed.
Clearly i spread false doctrine about the Gospel, even though i firmly believed myself to be saved.
You did NOT spread false doctrine, but you should contact Mr. Anderson and let him know that he is the one spreading false doctrine. If you truly believed on the Lord Jesus Christ and received Him as your Lord and Savior, then rest assured that you are saved, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved".

The account in Acts answers your question bro.....read Acts 18

Now a Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by birth, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus; and he was mighty in the Scriptures This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, being acquainted only with the baptism of John; and he began to speak out boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

Also......The book of Galatians.....they had been tricked or deceived into believing that they had begun in the faith (saved) and that it had to be finished off with works (law)......

Read chapter 1:1-10 and then chapter 3:1-10

Paul calls it foolish and asked then who had bewitched them.....

It is possible for saved children of God that have no growth, maturity and or understanding to be led astray and or deceived and or blind to some truths.....

I believe that Jesus did suffer in hell for three days and three nights. For our sin. I think that old testament believers immediately went to heaven after dying.

Well then you've been hoodwinked and no one can help you.

You wondered if it was possible to be deceived by false prophets, and now you have confirmed that deception in your own beliefs. As I said, false prophets are subtle.

Take some time to study the 66 occurrences of "Sheol" in the Old Testament. You will learn that the OT saints all went to Sheol/Hades and remained there until the resurrection of Christ.

I have been watching a few of Pastor Andersons video's and i usually agree with much of his preaching.. But i have two big issues with his video's .. One is public prayer.. He ends all his preaching sessions with a public prayer.. I believe prayer should be a private thing done in secret as much as possible... Anderson also made the clear statement that he hated homosexuals.. While i agree that it is good to hate homosexuality i believe it is wrong to hate homosexuals.. We are to love the sinner but hate the sin..

As for the Atonement.. Once Jesus had suffered death then all the sins of all the people who believe Jesus and trusted in the Atonement He secured for their salvation where forgiven.. He went to hell not to suffer but to preach to the souls imprissoned there during the 3 days He was in the tomb..

1 Peter 3: KJV
18 "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: {19} By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; {20} Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water."

So Jesus went to preach to the Souls in hell not to suffer there..

Mannnn ... Trust in NO man.. Don't make any preacher or pastor or evangelist your LORD.. Go to the Bible and read it and seek for the guidance of the Holy Spirit to bring you to the knowledge of the Way of salvation...

Gospel literally means Good News .. So what is the Good News.. The good news is salvation by grace, Eternal salvation by the loving gift of forgiveness to all who believe and trust in the Way of salvation.. What is the Way of salvation? Having the penalty of all ones sins paid for by the atoning sacrifice of the LORD Jesus Christ on the Cross.. Once a person believes and trusts in that Good News they are assured of salvation.. No if's not but's,, It's done and dusted, It is finished..

John 19: KJV

28- "¶ After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. {29} Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. {30} When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost."

Upon the death of Jesus He had accomplished the Way of salvation.. He said It is finished meaning His mission was finished as far as the act that would secure people their eternal salvation... He did Go to hell that is true but that was not a part of His mission to secure salvation.. it was as Peter said to preach to the Souls that where imprisoned there..

Some members of the Church in Galatia were being deceived and Paul had to put them right. So I would say the answer to your question is yes. Those same false teachings are still being peddled today.
