As long as you keep an eye on your spelling.:D That was Balaam who was rebuked by his donkey.

Thank you. I knew I got it wrong. I was just too lazy to look it up.

yea the poster says just asking questions, but most see right through the mayham, just another tactic of the poster to put two cents in, no doubt sooner or later the poster will be the one trying to teach. i have seen it quite few times.
I am never going to trust you to size someone up for me. This isn't the first time you've passive-aggressively said something about a person that simply isn't true. And it certainly isn't the first time you set yourself up as divine discerner when that simply isn't true either.

Instead of guessing, feel free to look. Not like every single post we've ever written on this site isn't visible to anyone else. Go ahead and look to see where I've ever taught on here. You won't find it.

And, if you were truly a man of God I would expect at least an apology for telling lies about me, but don't worry. I don't really think you're a man of God, so won't be holding my breath.

I would ask them

"Whose souls has God entrusted into your keeping?"

because true authority isn't about power but responsibility to nurture and guide and teach God's people to have a closer relationship with God.

I agree that true teachers first learn and study and seek God's truth and affirmation from other believers and His holy word. I would also add that all my teachers spend hours in prayer over their students and the material they teach each week.

However I don't really believe anyone has the authority to set themselves up as a teacher here on CC. We are all just members talking and discussing what we learn. In our own way trying to point to God and recognize when we hear His Truths spoken.

CC is more a meeting place.
I honestly don't see anywhere in the Bible that God tells someone to keep anyone's soul. I don't expect teachers to take on my soul. Just expect them to teach what they've been given to teach and learn what they learned already. (Or, truthfully, are in the process of learning.)

And I do see CC as a possible platform to teach on for teachers. It sure would be a vast improvement from being a platform to senselessly argue around God. I wish we had teachers.

Actually, I think we have teachers. I can instantly think of three people who I trust when they teach. Unfortunately, only one thinks she is a teacher with something worth learning. (Joi.) AND, she's right!

Well since you are asking me, I will tell you that I am not out to teach anyone.
I write a morning devotion daily and have done for a year and a half and I do
so for others to read and possibly be inspired. Maybe they will be and maybe they
won't be it's a personal choice but one thing I am sure of is what I write is an
inspiration of Christ within me and I don't pretend to be anything else.
For someone not out to teach, you use Family Forum as your platform often enough. And you do it to people with problems after they're gone.

By whose authority do I teach? UN Resolution A/RES/60(I), also know as the Unction. That and the Spirit of Truth.
So I wonder if the OP has 'Unction'?

i recall one visit only to Family Forum and that was months ago
so i have no idea what you're going on about...even so helping someone
is not the same as teaching someone...to carry someone with a broken
leg a mile is helping someone without teaching someone...I don't recall
doing that on this forum but if I did I'd gladly accept the criticism by
the grace of God.

I know a lot of people who have taught me many things here. Just as I know many pastors, but I wouldn't call them my pastor.

I go back to your title "by whose authority do you teach?" and your own words "who I trust when they teach."

The concept of "commission" has been on my mind a lot, and I admit that I can think of some people commission on CC to teach bible study (not on forums but live chat). RoboOp commissioned moderators and administrators for the site.

However for the most part these threads are just conversations between believers...not really authorized bible studies.

I always believe there is a stricter judgment for those in authority to teach, preach or prophecize.

All should point people back to God and not build up their own little kingdoms.

The ones who preach to no one in particular just in the past week:
MessageoftheCross, Nobleman, KingJamesVersionBibleOnly, GOP, WebersHome, Nehemiah6, LightshinesintheDarkness, newton3003, followJesus, and LW97.

Do you not notice? At the time I wrote this, half the first page was full of ats, not tos.

Not really. I don't click on that many threads. Especially if someone has the same hobby horse.

I know in my church for someone to have "authority" as a teacher or pastor, you have to be commissioned.

It's like a covenant between the person and the congregation. Both sides promises something to one another....kind of like the New covenant Jesus has with the Church.

Not sure if any of this will make sense but I will take a shot at it.....

As parents God entrusts us with the care of our children for a period of time.

Jesus said God entrusted Him with His disciples and he didn't lose any except for the one preordained to depart (Judas Iscariot).

Paul called Timothy his son in the faith.

We are also told to view older men and women as fathers and mothers in the faith, and to view younger men and women as spiritual sisters and brothers.

I point all this out because I believe teachers and pastors are entrusted with the souls of new believers or babes in Christ until such a time they are mature and grounded in Him and the faith.

I don't really see that happening here on CC.

Yes we have a few great people who have a lot of heavenly wisdom. We also have a lot who have wisdom but it's not of the heavenly sort.

.....I had a point but I lost it. Sorry Lynn....

I think I remember....,just because someone is appointed a pastor of one church, doesn't mean they can just walk into the door of any church and start preaching.

Many people use CC as a pulpit, when really it's just a stage where people can stop and listen or just keep on walking.

In a way I see CC as a stand on a street corner, more than a pulpit in a church setting.

Sometimes we get a really good discussion going, but I have found if it continues for more than a couple of weeks it deevolves into fighting.

One good thing CC does is test your faith and make you dig deep into the Bible and prayer to see if your beliefs hold up or if they may just be man made traditions of what you have been taught and never questioned.

Only thread I would recommend to a new believer right now is Lafftur "Bible trivia" one...it's kind of fun and humbling to know that other folks know a lot more bible facts than I do.

I agree that it's a great thread. I find it to be a humbling experience as well.

How 'bout these?

"Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them"-1 Peter 5:2

"Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. "-Hebrews 13:17

I want to apologize to you. I'm remembering things you did a couple of years ago, and haven't noticed you have changed since then. If I'm allowed to change, so are you. So I'm bringing up things from way back when you were a mere kid in your late 60s. On that, I want to say I'm sorry.

Would you forgive me?

Having said that, I really would like to know what was the process that lead you to believe you could write devotionals. And, I'm not saying you can't. I'm asking you how you know if it is the Lord or just you? I really do think it is something that escapes most people, and do see you as someone who can do devotionals well, so how did you get there? How did the Lord lead you there?

I agree with you, including the part about losing my train of thought. lol

The problem I have is there are only three forms of fellowship with me:
1. With hubby.
2. In a group I'm with online.
3. CC.

I can get teachings online too, but rarely do that. And of course I spend time with the Lord.

But this is the most I get for rubbing elbows with other believers. And in that, it frustrates me greatly because the deep arguments on here are rarely deep. They're usually deeper than the preached-at/drive-by sermons, but so is a puddle. Most of the arguments are around God, but not about God.

Examples:
-- Should women preach is about woman's place in the church, not God's.
-- There a bunch of which is better arguments going on right now -- to be water baptized or not, Christ or Paul's gospel, OT V NT, Works V grace, and correct doctrine V godly attitude. (Nothing personal, Earnest. I really don't think this is intentional, as much as it is accepted that this is what we talk about on this forum.)
-- We talk about creation as a way to refute evolution, which day of the week should we go to church, one single promise of the Lord as something we get, (healing), and so much more, but it usually centers around us, not God. Or something -- anything -- but God.

I really wish this would be a Bible Discussion forum. I think that battle was lost by those who much prefer it be a place to argue about God without ever having to deal with God. Truthfully, I've given up on that ever changing. I think that is why most long-term good guys have left. And I think it is a great place for those who love to argue just to argue. Probably why I just dabble on here now.

But I don't want it to be a spot for drive-by preach-ats, because over the long haul, new people won't ever know that just because people preach-at here, it doesn't mean the preaching is worth listening to. No more so than the long-haul arguing is worth listening to.

Kind of feel like this is like what my house looked like last year -- so full of junk, is it even worth clearing out the junk? Is it worth living here anymore? I don't know the answer yet. I suspect it's getting close to time to move on and let the squatters take over. Haven't most of us made that decision already?

You have church. I am glad for you. I have CC.

You have church. I am glad for you. I have CC.
I hear what you are saying but not really sure what would help.

You seek true fellowship and biblical teachings that reveal the nature of God,

I wish we had more teachers who wanted to actually teach on those topics,

I am still learning about them myself..,,

Like the many names of God found throughout the Bible and how they reveal His character to us.

Or the prophecies found throughout the old testament that point to Jesus.

I don't really see anything wrong with discussions abiyr doctrine, but agree there is a definite lack with discussions about God.

Personally I feel some what off talking about God.

Prayer...it's the way I include God in the conversation.

Silence...,,,not something you see online but its how we listen to God and one another.

Have you thought about leading a small women's bible study online with other ladies who are shut-ins?

Maybe read a book together and discuss it..,it can be a book of the Bible or maybe sermons from Charles Spurgeon?

My high school friends and I just started a Google doc to discuss our lives and just keep in contact.

It's moments like these that I miss 1Stillwaters and Abiding.
