Anyone understand why many modern day churches sing/worship with the lights off, spot lights on the stage with fog ascending from the ceiling? This is flat out weird and non biblical. My first thought would be is to give the church house a worldly concert feel? Am I missing something?

Almost akin to whistling in the dark.

As to reasons, mysticism is now being promoted in many churches since the true Gospel as been abandoned.

Fog ascending from the ceiling is weird. If the "fog" is actually the shekinah, it is biblical. ;)

The church I attend doesn't "do" worship this way. We (I'm on the music team) aren't performing; we're worshiping and facilitating worship. We often pray along the lines of "Lord, help us to get out of the way so You are glorified."

We go to church to serve God- that's why it's called "worship service". It is not entertainment. We are not the customer so-to-speak- only God is. We must serve Him in the ways He says to, not by our ways- otherwise it is in vain, not resulting in salvation. This a false church, for they are fashioning themselves after the world- which God says not to do. Many so called churches arise and make up their own rules, but only Christ's true church saves.

"They worship Me in vain- their doctrine in merely human rules."

Psalm 149:3 Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.

Psalm 89:1
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.

Psalm 105:2 King James Version (KJV)

2 Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.

Never been to a service like that, but sounds like they're doing a 'stage production' and not a worship service - looking for more $$ in the collection plate perhaps?

Seems like a lot of churches tend to concentrate more on the "show" than the "service".

Many? I've heard of two churches that do that. Considering this is the US where we have many, many, many churches, two cannot be "many."

My church does it like that, it's one of the only places I find i can actually connect in the spirit.

I think I'm the end its how your spirit worships His Spirit, people focus to much on whether a presentation is good or bad.
