Why are so many under the false impression that Jesus gives each eternal rest
when accepting His salvation free and with daily grace?

When Jesus Speaks of giving rest in Matthew,, He is referring to rest in His teaching.

Even Jesus was weary at Jacob's well. There are so many references to people saved also becoming
weary........

Do you think doing the works of God is alway rest filled? If you do, perhaps you should re-examine
what works God has graced you with.

Jesus makes reference to the hypocrites, much like today, who weigh heavy burdens on you (their teaching) which
they will not lift a finger to do themselves. This is what the reference is to in Matthew right there with His invitation
to learn of Him for His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Light thought it may be, it is yet a burden, but a joyous burden
pleasing God, for this forms just a part of the Works of god giveneach of us.

Paul was wearied to the point of death......Jesus was weary from His travel, and you believe you are saved and that is it?

Nothing is further from the reality of living in Jesus Christ. If you believe Him you will follow His example, and the more you do
the greater the reward, however it is not easy, and others will ridicule you for being "different" in you walk. This difference is imitating the Son of God.

No one can do anything for the Father, but all should avail themselves to Him so He will grace us with His works...it will surprise you at times. He will use you for anything He requires, and it is rewarding now, no waiting.

I believe there is a fundamental misunderstanding here about the Christian's "rest" in Christ.

It is not a reference to physical resting, and simply coasting along, doing nothing, and sitting around wasting time. Indeed a Christian should ideally be a very busy person engaged in productively and fruitfully serving the Lord (but not to the point of affecting his quiet time with God).

But the Christian's "rest" is a rest of the soul in Christ. Which means the Christian in content to accept the finished work of Christ as more than sufficient for him or her to be accepted by God and have a relationship with the Godhead. In other words, the Christian does not have to strive to prove his righteousness to God, but simply to be righteous in Christ.

The world at large and all the religions of the world (including False Christianity) teach that sinners must "earn" their way to Heaven. But God says that that is impossible. We are simply to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and rest in His finished work.

This does not give anyone the license to sin, since grace DEMANDS that we live righteously, soberly, and godly in this present world. And this is a work of the Holy Spirit who works in us both to will and to do of His good pleasure.

I am not so sure I would articulate it that way, that grace demands such things. Rather under God's grace we may live righteously, soberly, and godly in this present world. It enables us, not being under the Law that is holy, just, and good, yet incapable of making us so. Where as us being under grace, God's word declares that sin shall not have dominion over us.

We do have a reasonable service, as the apostle Paul says.

Romans 12:1 King James Version (KJV)

12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

God's grace isn't a license to sin (as you said it is not), because through such grace and by faith in Christ we have been made new creations. We are to reckon ourselves dead to sin and alive unto God. We are to use our members as instruments of righteousness unto God, not unrighteousness unto sin. We serve in the newness of the spirit, and not the oldness of the letter. God's word is clear on this matter, the righteous commit righteousness (and do not be deceived it says in John).

My post is intended to stimulate a desire to study and understand the words of Jesus Christ.

We all have the peace that surpasses understanding, but none of us may rest while our
Father is still working.

We must do the works He does.

Now, bottom line, if you recognize our Shepherd's Voice, hear Him.......that is all.

We have been saved unto good works. So yes, God does have a will for our lives and purposes for us to fulfill. We ought to learn to recognize His voice so that we may walk in obedience to it.

I believe its a reference to spiritual rest (Matthew 11:28-30).. A wandering soul knows no rest. The rest we find in Christ is in the knowledge that he has secured our destiny beyond the grave. A lost soul is dead to the world, it wanders aimlessly without hope or purpose, there's just no comfort without a Savior.

Paul makes reference to his soul being wearied. Paul was in Christ I believe, and the soul is spiritual if nothing else is.

Heb 3:7 Wherefore, even as the Holy Spirit saith, To-day if ye shall hear his voice,
Heb 3:8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, Like as in the day of the trial in the wilderness,
Heb 3:9 Where your fathers tried me by proving me, And saw my works forty years.

This reminds me so much of the song that says, "Now hear the word of the Lord!"
