Do you believe the original writer(s) of the bible were being literal when they described the professions of Cain and Abel?

I happen to think the bible is an extremely shrouded book of stories about lost civilisations that had become developed, and were destroyed.

When civilizations develop, as you can observe today, they tend to divide into urban areas near the seas, and rural areas further in land

The rural areas would be where professional farmers and sheep herders operate. And the urban areas might be where the Lords of industry oversee the trafficking of goods throughout the market places.

It seems more reasonable to me, that Cain and Abel, both being in contact with the LORD, who oversees all industries, would not be rural farmers, but were instead urban captains of industry.

So then, it is a matter of figuring the riddle.

A group of sheep is a flock.
Similar to the word flock is fleet.
Today, transportation companies refer to their trucks as their fleet.
This could answer what Abel's profession was.

Tilling the earth sounds like it could be a man's perspective on sex.
So Cain sounds like he was a pimp.

So now a few questions arise.

What did it mean when Cain and Abel brought sacrifices to the LORD? Were these human sacrifices? Did the LORD kill and devour Cain's prostitute, and let Abel's product runner live?

After Cain killed Abel, and the LORD punished Cain, why was Cain unable to till the earth anymore?

This obsession with Cain is becoming ridiculous. What's your point?

Does it matter?

Will knowing the answer save you or others?

Would it help in preaching the gospel?

If this is closer to truth, then yes it would save people from allowing the bible to influence them when it is a bad influence.

Well, there is a huge problem with your view - there are no such developed civilizations found in excavations, archeology.

Only very primitive ones. No iphones in fossils, I am sorry.

Gen
4:2
Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil.
4:3
In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD.
4:4
But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering,
4:5
but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
Gen 4:12
When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth."

i think that god punished Cain When Cain work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for Cain. Cain will be a restless wanderer on the earth. which is means god wants Cain to know why The god looked with favor on Abel .cuz Cain would only kept flocks , flocks always with dangerous such as wolfs ,that's my point about your question .

BTW, MAY I ASK YOU to read this link http://christianchat.com/bible-discussion-forum/166353-nomatter-what-u-believe-me-not.html

Similar to the word Cain is fail (both four letter words with "a" and "i" in the middle). Similar to the word Harm is ham. A ham is a bad actor seeking attention for skills he does not possess. Similar to the word Bank is bunk. Shall we call you FailHamBunk?

And what way actually was it?
I tried to hypothesize in this example how it actually was. If you have further actual knowledge you want to enlighten us with, please feel free to do so.

Just to clarify: bunk = nonsense, baloney, rot, hogwash, etc.
That is what most people regard the bible as already.

I happen to think there may be some actual history to it that might be worth considering, to heal from a bad trauma.

But you can feel free to keep fantasizing about unicorns and fairy tales and immaculate conceptions and all that stuff most people regard as hogwash.

Hypothesizing and making wild claims based on your full-of-bunk arguments is not sharing actual knowledge, nor is it enlightening in any way, shape, or form.

I happen to think I am closer to truth than you.

But if you want to enlighten me as to something I might be missing, feel free to do so.

As it stands, you are just scoffing.
