So we just finished up a Disciple 1 course at church and one of the assignments was to prayfully identify the spiritual gifts the other people in the class had.

I found it was kind of fun and insightful to figure out what body part I believed each person functioned as.

Not the whole organ but more as one cell making up some tissue that makes up the organ that makes up the various systems of the body.

I am thinking oxygen is like the Word of God breathed into us and gives us life.

Therefore you will find a lot of preachers and prophets as part of the respiratory system.

Food gets processed by the digestive system and I see this as part of the finance commity and The board of trustees.

The blood carries the nutrients from the stomach and the oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the Body. Also we have white blood cells that fight disease and platelets...so I see this as the governing body of the church or in my church: the church council.

I know some people don't like analogies or figurative language.

I was just wondering what part of Christ body do you feel that God is calling you to be?

Personally I believe I would be a tiny red blood cell...carrying oxygen to the body from the lungs, picking up waste and traveling from cell to cell offering food and energy from the stomach.

If taken outside the body,i would dry up and turn a rusty brown.

Probably the ring finger of my left hand.
So you see yourself as married and commited to God and His people? To help them and those oustdie by showing His love in outward displays of mercy?

I see myself as married and committed to my wife. Right now, taking care of her is my number one priority. I also want to be of service to God in helping others that I meet along the way on my spiritual journey but my main focus is my wife and will remain so until death do we part.

I may be a macrophage. I seem to be adept at identifying and dealing with specific threats to truth and community. ;)

We need our protectors and folks with discernment. One of the people taking the class just got back from a church safety. They compiled an emergency plan just in case something bad were to happen. We hope and pray it never does, but it's good to have people looking out.

Just be careful not to develop into an autoimmune disorder

I see the heart of my wife to be the part of the Body of Christ.
We had one member of our group who definitely embodied the heart of Christ.

She makes dresses for African children, embroids bookmarks, pillows, etc, send out weekly prayer requests for our Sunday school and thousands of other little loving things...but the real reason I see her as part of the heart is her humblendss and willingness to put others first always.

You wife is probably as beautiful, it's wonderful to be in the presence of people who embody God's love for us.

I think my husband would be a platelet...nature's bandaid. Keeps the body from bleeding out and holds things together until the cut can be healed. He has a tendency to "fix" issues, is a good listener, mostly level headed even when angry and protects the body from outward invasion by promoting clotting.

Why would Christians not like analogies? That is what Christ's parables are, and the physical examples of the old testament that show the spiritual meanings in the new testament. You think the Word of God symbolizes the breath, but I think it symbolizes the blood. Jesus is the Word of God and He says "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood you have no life in you." Genesis says that the life is in the blood- this is true both physically and spiritually. I think the breath represents holiness.

Very good topic.

The hand are people like Moses,Aaron,Joseph,Joshua,Zerubbabel, the Apostles,Prophets,144,000.Those are afew that come to mind.

Exodus 32:11
But Moses sought the favor of the Lord his God. "O Lord" he said,"why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?"

Also signet rings worn by Joseph and Zerubbabel.Pretty much anyone one who the Lord had set aside, like the Prophets. The hand of the Lord goes forth before them.

There are probably other clues about the rest of the body.Book of Acts as an example. But I can't see it.The remnant is my favorite subject. The names I've mentioned are a remnant throughout the scripture.

Although these kinds of exercises seem fun and helpful, I Corinthians 12 sums it up by saying we can’t possibly determine what part of the body is important or lacking, or which part we play. God is the One who pulls it all together Himself supernaturally by His Spirit and is the One who fulfills what is lacking in each of us, thereby making the body of Christ whole.

Comparisons in this temporary realm are bogus. They can foster pride and false humility in some, and feelings of jealousy and inadequacy in others. Those we think the body has great need of are not necessarily the ones God deems more honorable. Man looks on the outward, God looks at the heart.

God has set all the members in the body as it pleased Him.

The very next chapter shows us “a more excellent way”.

Yes, Aunty, when we learn to love in the right way we start to get God's attention.

1 Peter 4:8
"And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "LOVE WILL COVER A MULTITUDE OF SINS.""

Prov. 10:12
"Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins."

This is what we should focus on.

Knowing my God given purpose and path of my life thus far...I would say heart.
God so wants His children to fall back into His arms and love Him as well as one another... rather than to judge others...and let Him use us to show others...believers and non-believers that His love is unconditional. He wants us to kill all those we come in contact with love!
To never show a hardened heart.

I was thinking of Genesis that says that God breathed into man and was made alive. The "breathe of life" or also translated as the soul/spirit.

The blood does carry oxygen to the rest of the Body.

Every part is important....will have to think and pray about it.
