    Default The Sensual Christian

Do you think a Christian can be called a sensual Christian. We have for example The Song of Solomon. Yet another example is Paul who may have said they are enemies of the cross. What do you think - should Christians be called sensual?

I think that there is a difference between carnal and sensual. Paul said that anything that can be recieved with thanksgiving to God is good. God created this world in such a way that we can enjoy it. He created the colors and the smells, the sounds and the flavors. If we can recieve it as a gift from God, with thanksgiving toward Him, then in that regard we could be called a sensual Christian. But if we cannot, if we are wrapped up in our own pleasures or if we use our minds (were the senses truly rest) in ways that God never intended, then we cannot truthfully accept these things in thanksgiving to Him, and we become carnal. I would not say that automatically disqualifies up for the heavenly prize, but I would say that it wounds our faith and can lead to complete failure.

I looked up the meaning of sensual and it was described as physical rather than spiritual or intellectual; also lacking in moral or spiritual interests; worldly. But in marriage, we are physical. But I guess in all things we should remain spiritual.

JIMO, God would not have given us the senses if He did not want us to experience them. The issue is do we allow God to help us control how we use the senses, or do we let the senses themselves control us?

"There was a preacher at a church near the coastline who was leading a Couple's class. As part of this class, he would have married couples read, out loud, the Lover's and the Beloved's parts in the Song of Solomon; he asked them to read as if they were speaking the words to each other.

One husband, an avid fisherman, read over his part in silence first, gradually turning beet red. He blurted out, 'Preacher, I can't read this! If I spoke to my wife this way she'd think I wanted a new bass boat!' His wife immediately responded with, 'Preacher, if he spoke to me like that he'd GET a new bass boat!' "

I don’t think abstinent Christians want to be called sensual.

Also, I think what a married couple does behind closed doors belongs behind closed doors, don’t you?

You're right. What's done behind closed doors should remain behind closed doors.

Umm... God invented sex. Remember? "The biblical purpose of sex is multifaceted. God has given sex to us as a means of glorifying Him as we fulfill its design for procreation, intimacy, comfort, and physical pleasure. It is a fulfillment of God's created order in marriage between a husband and wife."

Thank you! loveschild, you posted it first.

God created coitus as a godly privilege for the married couple (husband and wife).

Man lacking all concept of ethics/morals sensualized it.

Yes, a Christian can be called anything.
Is it wise to be known as such? No.
Is it godly? The answer to your question is in your dictionary.
