Is it a sin to listen to music that contains sexual content? And if it is (i dont think it is by the way), than why is the bible filled with sexual events, such as Lot and his daughters, or most of the Song of Solomon.

what counts as sexual content? I listen to all sorts of music from all kinds of genre. I dont feel the slightest bit 'less christian' or 'wrong' for doing it. Not too mention secular music just sounds better as it has better production values. I guess its more of a personal thing

I wouldn't think to tie sexual music with the Bible.
The Bible has "sexual content" for a several reasons but for the ones you've mentioned:
When we're told not to do certain things, it helps to have examples of the consequences, which, I think, the Bible does a great job of. Also to show us that no matter what we've done or gone through God will always be there. So "sexual content" in the Bible is to inform us not entertain us.

Sex is like fire. In a furnace or stove, it does a lot of creative good. Out of control, it can get very ugly and destructive. Sexual music per se may not be sinful, unless it really is aimed toward profane sex. But in the wrong context it could lead to sin. If it draws you toward behavior that doesn't conform to God's word, or if it upsets your spiritual rest, or if it becomes an idol of the heart that cools you from seeking the Lord with your whole soul, then it's not doing you any good and you should pray it through until you get clarity and know what to do.

So a song about sex between married people is cool...but the same exact lyrics would make the song wrong if they are not?
I mean there really is no such thing as 'profane sex' within a marriage. |

I grew up on a different era. I love to listen to the "oldies" from the 50's to the 80's mostly. Especially Romantic Songs. I see nothing wrong listening to those songs.
I was lead singer in a local band in High School and could sing most of them. I do not enjoy songs that are about explicit sex or using profanity and don't think they have any place in a Christian Life. Just sayin'....... |
