Jesus had an unorthodox message for his time, didn’t he?:

From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew 4:17 RSV

My understanding is that the religious leaders didn’t like Jesus and had him killed.

I would say his message is still unorthodox. When I share it with Christians, I tend to get a negative reaction.

So let me ask you: Are you unorthodox, or do you automatically agree with what your religious leaders tell you?

I'm orthodox in the original sense of the word (right belief), and not in the negative sense you describe.

Actually... Matthew 4:17 would be orthodoxy. The way it's supposed to be. The correct and true way. Anything else, such as what the religious leaders may have told those who don't like the concept of repentnece... they are preaching unorthodoxy. Just as the religious leaders in the time of Jesus, were preaching unorthodox ways... as it was not the way of God.

Jesus was not unorthodox. your presumptions are wrong.

Jesus was the truth, he was the fulfilment of the truth, that those around had neglected.

So what is it do you think Christians and 'leaders' have got wrong that you have got right.

When I hear statements like this Ress, the alarm bells start to ring.

Hi Ress,

Forgot to ask. Could you elaborate what it is you have got right, that when you try and teach Christians the truth you have you get a negative response.

What is it you get a negative response about??

Unorthodox simply means "not the usual, but also not necessarily wrong."

Jesus' teachings were anything but the "usual" of His day.

Look at how often He rattled the cages of those religious leaders.

I think maybe you need to reset your alarm? ;)

I can't recall the passage exactly, maybe someoen can help me. I do remember however, a passage where even the disciples had to follow the rules of the Pharisees, because Jesus told them to.

Jesus didn't go around breaking rules like a rebellious child. He did however, re-instate orthodoxy. The pharisees and saduccees had adulterated the word of God.

The orthodox message would be the message the majority of church leaders are preaching. I’m not sure they are preaching repentance.

I am not referring to what I believe. I am referring to what Jesus taught.

Jesus came with a message of repentance. The religious leaders hated Jesus and had him killed.

Has anything changed? Do the religious leaders preach a message of repentance today?

Indeed, the religious leaders in the days of Jesus had strayed from the Lord.

Does that happen today?
I don't believe we are in disagreeance.

This is what i said.
