There was a post where some people thought that the NIV translation was New Age religion influenced,but when you read the Message Bible,it reads like it is New Age religion influenced,making the NIV look like it is not influenced,for it is a far cry from the Message Bible.

The message Bible is not a translation; its a paraphrase. I have one and have not seen anything that directly goes against God's word I always read it with my NIV Bible for comparison, but I think for deep studying the message Bible is good.:)

The MESSAGE is a paraphrase (line by line commentary) by Eugene Peterson. It is NOT a translation.

To be honest I'm not the biggest fan of the Message, and if it was up to me it wouldn't exist anymore. However, as long as people recognize that it is not a Bible, but a paraphrase then i see no problem with people using it to try and get a different perspective on a particular passage. My only real big objection to the Message is it using "Master God" and "Master Jesus" instead of "Lord God" and "Lord Jesus" respectively.

I read the "official" kjv...not sure what make it official, I've just always read it. Some have said to me that King James changed something in it so he could divorce, but someone else said that the word is preserved by God, so I don't think about it much, I just like the old english in the kjv and trust God to keep the rest as it should be.

I needed to read that, starting where you pointed and extending further, it puts some thoughts to rest.

Or for those that decide they can't be bothered the NIV translation says this: "You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts."

Amen to that.

The reason I didn't want you guys to Bible-Gateway it isn't because it's bad, it's because reading directly from the Bible, out loud, is much more spirit filled.

This is interesting. Why is "master" not a decent translation? I assume we're talking about the Greek word kyrios, which is also used in the gospels to discuss the relationship between an earthly slave and his "owner," for lack of a better word. If I were looking for an English word to describe this relationship, "master" would warrant consideration, especially in the States where slaves had masters but much less rarely, if ever, lords.

To me, when I hear "lord," I think of archaic European social structures or "lording over" someone, which is usually used pejoratively to indicate usurped or abused authority. I've read the website about the connection with Blavatsky et al., but if I were translating the text in an academic setting, the only reason I'd choose "lord" is tradition. Were I to choose "master," it wouldn't be because I thought Jesus was one of their Masters.

I'm more concerned with the Message describing God as "zest," which makes me think of lemon peel shavings.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, and for more reasons which i shall not explain at this time. Consider: if the LORD spoke the TRUTH for all men, then, in order to judge us by it, must HE not also provide a most reliable and trustworthy source? Really, what GOD is HIS WORD if the Book it is written in is not trusted. But all bibles are not equal, and many disagree right from the very first line (heaven, heavens): and this is synonmous with the events which transpired at the tower of Babel, for, once their languages were confused, they separated, no longer worked together, and were no longer of one mind, in one accord with their beliefs. SO which bible you believe in is all too important
to understanding the absolute Truth. Most have the same 'milk', but it is their 'meat' which varies.

Furthermore, the KJV is 400 years old this year (a interesting number in scripture), putting it head above all other bibles. So Happy Birthday KJV, the bible which changed
the world since its publishing.

Since you like things simple, which is the way GOD likes it too, here is the simple TRUTH. GOD is LOVE, and we love HIM by loving HIS people, who are all of us, even our enemies (Matt). We (humans) were enemies of GOD at one time, but HE died for us to save us from ourselves. According to JAMES, pure religion is to take care of the needs of the fatherless and widows, so religion in general is to give to any who need.
But, your responsibility towards GOD is to diligently seek the HIS Truths by studying HIS WORD, in order that you will not be deceived. For the subtle way to deceive a person is to lie to them about it the very first time they ever hear of it, like Eve was deceived.
