I am always hearing people say the Lord is vengeful and will torture most people forever in hell.

This is not true. The Lord loves us. He will discipline us when we misbehave, but he does that for our own good, knowing what kind of trouble we will get ourselves into if we don’t repent of our sin.

exactly right, because GOD is really not the one sending us to hell but ourselves if we don't do as the Lord recommends (Love) or at least have a relationship with Him (actually both). GOD does not just throw us in hell without reason but our actions and words are what really the cause. I am not saying Jesus doesn't judge for He will judge by everything we did friends but if we do not change then we are dooming ourselves.

did this help or the opposite?

It is inaccurate to use the term torture. People will be tormented. There is some difference in the ideas. Most people will be lost. This means that the majority will be separated from God for eternity in Hell.

The use of the term discipline is used of God in reference to His children. It is not used in reference to the lost.

Well that was a waste of time. Sorry my post messed all up. Don't care for having to redo. Ha Ha!

Ok here we go again. I never heard of God torturing us in hell. Hell was not made for people. It was made for Satan and his demons. Says so in the bible. Every single person has the free will to except God. It is their choice.

I have heard of the demons torturing people in hell. God cries very hard for people who go to hell.

Does the Lord try to rescue people from hell?
He let his Son die for us on the cross. Jesus died for us. His blood is alive and there for anyone who ask God into their heart. If they don't do this they go to hell. Once in hell they are in hell.

They same repent and change is still being told as it was told in the bible.

Does the Lord try to rescue people from hell? I certainly think so. He gave us instructions ( bible) to live by.

Here's some scriptures.

11 Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath. (Psalm 90:11)

16 The Lord is known by the judgment He executes. (Psalm 9:16)

10 And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. (Revelation 20:10).

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man--and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:18-32)

30 There is no wisdom or understanding or counsel against the Lord. (Proverbs 21:30)

29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. (Matthew 5:29-30)

28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28)

19 "There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. 20 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, 21 desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.' 25 But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.' 27 Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house, 28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.' 29 Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.' 30 And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' 31 But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.' " (Luke 16:19-31)

34 And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. 35 So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses." (Matthew 18:34-35)

8 If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire. (Matthew 18:8)

41 Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: (Matthew 25:41)

43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched-- 44 where 'Their worm does not die, And the fire is not quenched.' 45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched-- 46 where 'Their worm does not die, And the fire is not quenched.' 47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire-- 48 where 'Their worm does not die, And the fire is not quenched.' (Mark 9:43-48)

10 The wicked will see it and be grieved; He will gnash his teeth and melt away; The desire of the wicked shall perish. (Psalm 112:10)

2 As smoke is driven away, So drive them away; As wax melts before the fire, So let the wicked perish at the presence of God. (Psalm 68:2)

8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. (Psalm 139:8)

29 For our God is a consuming fire. (Hebrews 12:29)

3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent; A fire shall devour before Him, And it shall be very tempestuous all around Him. (Psalm 50:3)

3 A fire goes before Him, And burns up His enemies round about. (Psalm 97:3)

14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; Fearfulness has seized the hypocrites: "Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?" 15 He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly, He who despises the gain of oppressions, Who gestures with his hands, refusing bribes, Who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed, And shuts his eyes from seeing evil: 16 He will dwell on high; His place of defense will be the fortress of rocks; Bread will be given him, His water will be sure. (Isaiah 33:14-16)

1 He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, Will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy. (Proverbs 29:1)

38 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together; The future of the wicked shall be cut off. (Psalm 37:38)

13 "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. (Matthew 7:13)

22 What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, (Romans 9:22)

19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame--who set their mind on earthly things. (Philippians 3:19)

9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, (2 Thessalonians 1:9)

7 When the wicked spring up like grass, And when all the workers of iniquity flourish, It is that they may be destroyed forever. (Psalm 92:7)

24 Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens. (Genesis 19:24)

6 and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; (2 Peter 2:6)

7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. (Jude 7)

6 Upon the wicked He will rain coals; Fire and brimstone and a burning wind Shall be the portion of their cup. (Psalm 11:6)

10 Let burning coals fall upon them; Let them be cast into the fire, Into deep pits, that they rise not up again. (Psalm 140:10)

22 For so you will heap coals of fire on his head, And the Lord will reward you. (Proverbs 25:22)

20 Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head." (Romans 12:20)

20 But the wicked shall perish; And the enemies of the Lord, Like the splendor of the meadows, shall vanish. Into smoke they shall vanish away. (Psalm 37:20)

11 And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name." (Revelation 14:11)

10 It shall not be quenched night or day; Its smoke shall ascend forever. From generation to generation it shall lie waste; No one shall pass through it forever and ever. (Isaiah 34:10)

3 Again they said, "Alleluia! Her smoke rises up forever and ever!" (Revelation 19:3)

8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death." (Revalation 21:8)

42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. (Matthew 13:42)

50 and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 13:50)

He wouldn't have to try, as if to say he could fail. If he wanted to rescue someone from hell, he could. But, scripture says hell is eternal, and so it is.
Yes, hell is eternal. However, do people get sent there forever?

Good question.

46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." (Matthew 25:46)

So, it says that the "punishment" is "everlasting."

34 And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. 35 So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses." (Matthew 18:34-35)

Hell lasts until "he should pay all that was due to him."

If those in hell "dwell with everlasting burnings," then their burnings are everlasting.

9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, (2 Thessalonians 1:9)

Similarly, if those in hell are "punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power," then their "destruction" is "everlasting." As it says:

7 When the wicked spring up like grass, And when all the workers of iniquity flourish, It is that they may be destroyed forever. (Psalm 92:7)

We have a choice: Heaven or not. To go to Heaven, God gave us a Way. If we don't accept that Way, then God has no choice but to keep His word.

It reminds me of parents who, in order to control their kids, count to 3. Most of the time, they NEVER get to 3. Maybe 2 and a half or 2 and three-quarters, but never 3.

God does not do that. He is fair and just and He keeps his word.

Accept Jesus as your Savior so He won't be your Judge.
