Peter answered them, "Every one of you must repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus the Messiah for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the Holy Spirit as a gift.

Being saved is by God's grace alone. When a person recognizes their sin, believes that Jesus Christ died on the cross for their sins (Jesus took our place), and put their faith and trust in him-that person is born again. Jesus has paid that person's sin debt in full with his blood. They immediately receive the Holy Spirit. They are saved and eternally secure. Salvaion is a free-gift from God. Salvation is by God's grace alone.

dolly we have to know who was asking the question, in your example the ones that ask the question was the jews, they already believed in God, they needed to repent ( change their Mind) on who God was and Jesus was mentioned
but in acts 16 a gentile asked the same questionAc 16:30And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?Ac 16:31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Nothing about Baptizing here so if this prison guard got saved with out baptizing then i suppose others could also. then there raises the question which baptizing was peter talking about in acts 2 for paul teaches us the spirit Baptizing

Ac 19:1And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,Ac 19:2He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.Ac 19:3And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.Ac 19:4Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.Ac 19:5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.Ac 19:6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

I agree with you comepletely. And i just wanted to add that, if we repent of our sins and believe in the lord jesus christ then we are saved. But it isnt because we did these things or it would be of works. if we did these things then it is EVIDENCE that god has already changed our hearts and caused us to do these things. God gets all the glory, because god did all the work. Like you said its by grace alone and grace is a free gift which we can do nothing to recieve or earn. God bless.

There is a difference between getting saved and staying saved. Just because "once" you prayed a prayer and "once" you believed doesn't mean you are still saved.

I believe that we are saved when we call on the name of Jesus, as we recognize that we are sinners and can do nothing to save ourselves. If we believe that Jesus is able to save us from our sins, then we believe He is who He says He is- God. There is nothing we can do to save ourselves except to recognize we are lost sinners, each and every one of us, that even one sin will separate us from the love of God for all eternity, when our hearts grasp that Jesus died on that cross carrying every sin the world would ever know, when we recognize His resurrection, and when we come to Him knowing there is nothing else for us. Then we are saved. We are baptised in Christ in obedience, not as a condition for salvation. Baptism also DOES NOT give salvation, as some would tell you.

thats another topic, why you gotta bring that up in here, plenty of thread concerning osas

Ro 8:1There is therefore now NO CONDEMNATION to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Because it was quoted on the first response. I didn't bring it up.

dolly_d, here is the answer(Thaddeus does a good job speaking about your Scripture in context):

"Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. " Acts 16:29-31

Dont build doctrine off a few passages, you must reconcile it to the rest of the Word of God. The catholic church teaches blasphemy to say baptism saves when the Word of God is clear against it! The catholic church disguises good works with sacraments and calls sacraments "grace". The Lords supper and water baptism are not sacraments. If water baptism was required for salvation, then the Word of God would have emphasized it. But it does not.

". . . Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect." 1 Corinthians 1:17

Water baptism has NOTHING to do with salvation, which is why it is made clear it is not even part of the gospel. If anyone is trusting in water baptism to help save them, I plead with you to trust soley on Christ! Or sadly you will be headed to the lake of fire for eternity.

And there's a difference between believing another Jesus not found in the Bible(2 Corinthians 11:3-4) and believing a Jesus who can completely save found in the Bible(John 10:29).

I think salvation or to be saved (Sozo in Greek if I remember right) means to save, deliver, protect, wholeness, restoration...the whole lot. It means more than just a happy home in heaven when you die. Salvation is both a now thing and a future thing. It encompasses salvation of the spirit, soul and body. People are saved in the present, but also salvation is an ongoing process. It means you are saved from God's wrath and judgement. It means your old sinful nature is changed into a new one, salvation of the soul it means bad is replaced with good, fear is replaced with confidence, hatred is replaced with love, sadness is replaced with joy, etc. Salvation of the spirit it means your spirit goes to heaven. Salvation of the body it means you will receive a glorified new body at the resurrection and you have everlasting life.

I wish also to put up my view on this based on the scripture.

To be saved means entering into the God kingdom, and you cant JOIN Gods kingdom but you are born into it as He told to Nicodemus.
John 3:3
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

How are we born becouse the natural types the spiritual, First is Water, Second Blood third is Life. in a normal birth.
Same happened onthe cross when they pierced Jesus, there came out water, blood and then His spirit which was His life.

In this KINGDOM Jesus gave the disciples authority of how to be born into it, moreso He gave PETER the keys to that KINGDOM to have power to open to anyone and close as in
Mathew 16:18-19
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

When it came time for PETER to OPEN that kingdom he said it in
Acts 2:38
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
(take note its PETER who begun to speak of all the disciples coz he was entrusted with the key of the KINGDOM by our LORD.

When Paul and Silas were realesed from the Jail when they went to a gentile Home they told Him
Acts 16:31-33
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed [their] stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
Baptism was required in that.

When the same PAUL met the Disciples of John the Baptist he asked them whether they have recieved the Holy Ghost they said no, and he asked them of which BAPTISM were you baptised (a crucial requirement) and they were baptized again in the name of JESUS CHRIST
ACTS 19:5
When they heard [this], they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

When Philip met the eunuch, He had to be baptised
ACTS 8:36-38
36 as they went on [their] way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, [here is] water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
(Even after the eunuch believing Jesus with all his heart Philip baptised him)

At cornelious house to GENTILES, even after believing on Jesus and even the spirit falling on them PETER demanded they be baptised
ACTS 10:47-48
47 can
any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

My last Point will be on JESUS Himself as He was sending His disciples away He commissioned them to BAPTISE ALL NATIONS (not Jews only)
MATTHEW 28:19
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Am not trying to out do any one but saying in all this scriptures, baptism was and is a requirement to be born in the kingdom of God, coz it thru BAPTISM(WATER), CLEANSING(THRO BLOOD) and you will recieve a gift of the HOLY SPIRIT(LIFE) The three steps of birth.
God Bless

What must we do to be saved?

First we must come to the conclusion that every one of us have sinned and the penalty for sin is nothing less than death (eternal separation from God). In other words each and every single one of us deserve to go to Hell for our rebellious nature toward God.

Second, we must come to an understanding that Jesus came to this earth as a sinless sacrifice to bare the full brunt of God's wrath so that we might be spared. In other words Jesus, the only begotten son of God, out of His infinite love for us, gave up His life so that we might also have life. Jesus came to this world as the only begotten son of God yet when He left, because of His sacrifice, He was now the first born of a people, a family that are redeemed!

To answer your question, there is really nothing that you can that Jesus hasn't already done for you but believe that Jesus died so that you might be saved. Once you believe that with all of your heart, then you must ask Jesus to come and live inside of you. We do that by whole heartedly confessing that we are a sinner in desperate need of a saviour. This is called repentance and repentance requires that we not only confess our terrible sin but that the greatest desire of our heart is to turn away from that sin. It's not easy and you will have moments of weakness, however God's grace overcomes all sin. However it is important that you understand, that you can never take God's grace for granted. Because to do so is a sin of itself.

I hope this helps you and I whole heartedly pray that you truly understand what Christ did for you and how much we need desperate need Him!May God's love and grace be poured upon you abundantly!

i think people have confussion... about something..
receiving the Holy Ghost ..
Everyone in the bible who received this spoke in TONGUES after that is one sign that you know you received the HOLY GHOST!
And many churches dont preach that!
I know its true because everyone in my church who got the holy ghost spoke in diff. language (tongues) in the spirit.
So amny people ignore this i dont know why , but they do ..
And no i dont think that just confesing that Jesus is the lord and our saviour will get you saved !
Abosolutely not. You have to live in the truth and the whole bible at least try to. I know that we wont accomplish and get
everything 100% right because that woul make us 'perfect' and there isnt such thng except Jesus... but try to .. try our best..
GB everyone
Again, that was my opinion and the way my church teaches , everyone is entitled to their own opinion and belief.

No Scripture supports what you just said, no works have any part in our salvation. Not every Christian speaks tongues btw. Let me give you an example, you say that tongues is used as evidence for salvation(and many teach that ALL Christians can speak in tongues). While the Scriptures teach that apostolic tongues were a gift and that NOT EVERYONE had it(1 Corinthians 12:29-31).

Everyone in the bible who received this spoke in TONGUES after that is one sign that you know you received the HOLY GHOST!

That is not true. Nor can you verify that from ALL believers in the Bible. And we cannot "try our best" and make it into heaven because it cannot be partly grace and partly works(Romans 11:6). Read Titus 3:5 and Ephesians 2:8-9.

And no i dont think that just confesing that Jesus is the lord and our saviour will get you saved !

but try to .. try our best

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;" Titus 3:5

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

This is why I am so confused about many people's position such as yours...Because it contradicts 100% grace in the Bible. No Christian has a license to sin btw. Also merely confessing Christ wont get you saved, but by BELIEVING in your heart as the Scriptures says unmistakeably in numerous verses. If your church is teaching that man must live good lives to be saved, then they are leading multitudes of people into the lake of fire for believing a works gospel sadly.....Not to sound harse or judgmental, because if I were really mean and full of hatred, I would just shut my mouth and watch people perish forever...I say this to warn you and everyone here.....I didn't join CC to be the most popular, but to stand up for Christ and speak the truth in love regardless of what man thinks....
