Jesus commanded is not to judge, lest we be judged ourselves. He went on to say that by the very same measure by which we judge others, we would be judged. And yet, later He tells the disciples to not judge according to the flesh, but to have Godly judgment. And in another place we are told that the spiritual man is not judged by anyone, yet he judges all things. This is obviously not a simple issue.

It is obvious that we judge things, all the time. Even more so, we judge those around us, also all the time. I don't believe that this is something we can help doing. It just comes naturally to us, is a very strong impulsive drive which we really have very little control over. But will anyone deny that all of our judgments are unjust? Will anyone believe that their judgments are in line with how God judges?

There are three basic types of judgment we are capable of making. We can judge by our flesh, by what we like or dislike, by what is pleasing and displeasing to our senses. Let us just say that this judgment is never in agreement with God's judgment. The flesh is utterly corrupt, and in it dwells no good thing. The judgment of the flesh is never pleasing to God, whether good or bad.

The next most common form of judgment is based on religion. Religious judgment is based upon our understanding of what is right and what is wrong. In part, itis based in the knowledge that came from the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. It also has some basis in our religious training, and in our training in life and society. What is and is not acceptable behavior and belief. It is also based in part on our understanding of the bible, and of the Law. Some believe that religious judgment is just, is even Godly. Jesus did not agree. Religious judgment always persecuted Him, even as it does today.

Finally, there is Godly judgment. What makes this judgment just is that it comesdirectly from God, by His Spirit. In fact, it is not our judgment at all. Jesus set the standard for how to have this Godly judgment. He said that the words He spoke were the words He heard His Father speaking. He knew that the judgments He proclaimed were God's judgments. Can we judge in the same way as did Jesus? Can we not judge by the ways which are false?

The answer to both questions is yes, absolutely, without a doubt. Jesus was clear in saying that His sheep hear His voice. If we believe, and learn of His voice, we can know what His judgment is in every situation, all the time. But we must practice hearing Him, for so many other voices clamor for our attention. We musttrain our senses to discern good and evil. God, and what He says by His Spirit is good, and just about everything else is evil.

I think judging in the spirit (godly way) is best I dont think it means to judge others actions more so judge what people or things you bring into your life.

43 "For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. 45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. (Luke 6:43-45)

So, "every tree is known by its fruit." What is this fruit? It is what "his mouth speaks."

15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. (Matthew 7:15-20)

So, we can know a "good man" from "an evil man" "by their fruits." That is, by what "his mouth speaks."

Knowing and judging are not the same thing. We are also to test the spirits, to see what they are, but even in this we do so by the Spirit of God. And how shall we know the fruit of their words? If we have not the Spirit of truth in us, how shall we know the truth?

What comes out of a man shows what is in him.

Knowing and judging are not the same thing.
It says that a "good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks." The "evil" that his "mouth speaks" here is anything contrary to scripture. When it says we "will know them" "by" "what his mouth speaks," it means we "will know them" for what he is: "false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves,"" and/or "an evil man."

But, if we are to "know them" "by" "what his mouth speaks," we must hear him speak, make a judgment about whether what he says, what he "brings forth," is "good" or "evil," that is, in accordance with scripture, and on that basis make a judgment about whether the person is a "good man," "an evil man," or "false prophets." There's no way to "know them" for what they are, to "know" what they are, without making both of these judgments.

3 If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, 4 he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, 5 useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself. (1 Timothy 6:3-5)

9 Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. (2 John 9)

We are also to test the spirits, to see what they are,
Exactly.

1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. (1 John 4:1)

So, why do we "not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God?" It says "because many false prophets have gone out into the world," as I said. When we test the spirits, we do so that we might make a judgment about "whether they are of God."

but even in this we do so by the Spirit of God.
20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth. (1 John 2:20-21)

27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. (1 John 2:27)

And how shall we know the fruit of their words?
It says that the "fruit" is "what his mouth speaks," so the fruit is their words.

If we have not the Spirit of truth in us, how shall we know the truth?
16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever-- 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. (John 14:16-17)

6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. (1 John 4:6)

What comes out of a man shows what is in him.
We are in agreement.

13 Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach. (Hebrews 13:13)

The agreement is in Christ, and in His Holy Spirit.
