22But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.
23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; 24for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.

Just wondering what y'all think DOING the Word invovles.

It is called OBEDIENCE.

Do what is directly commanded. Emulate the apostolic approved examples.

To be a doer you have to obey. It's not just reading the word and running around saying I'm a Christian. It's actually being a Christian. Putting God first for one thing. Have Gods people put him first? Do they care about God more than they care about their own selves? Is what God thinks more important than what we think? If he says don't do something do we not do it? Do we love people no matter what? Most have not gotten past the first 2 steps to be a doer.

James 1:18-27

18Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
19Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. 27Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

James tells us that the wrath of man does not work the righteousness of God and we are to be doers of the word, not hearers only. We only deceive ourselves in this regard. This type of man thinks naturally, who might BY THE LAW, uphold as much of it as he can. Paul describes a similar situation where he states that BY THE LAW, he persecuted the church of God. He was rich in compliance to the law. But when seperated to the work of God, ALL that he had gained by the law, he counted it for a LOSS.

The natural man however, tries to hold on to his riches as being compared to looking in a glass at himself. When he walks away though, he has forgotten what type of man he was meaning that to understand the law is to realize that for all the things gained by it, he is no better than any other sinner as we all have sinned. He has forgotten this.

We are to look upon perfect law of LIBERTY. We must understand this law. It is the righteousness of God. For me, to understand this, we must understand what unrighteousness is. 1 Corinthians 6:5-20 describes this exact same situation as talked about in James.

A quick example of this is the issue of homosexuality. We point out verses that state that these will have no part in heaven. But the truth is that this is the wrath of man to pass unrighteous judgement. This person has indeed forgotten what manner of man he was. I'm not gay, but if I say that all gays are going to the lake, did I forget that I was a thief? Did I forget that I was an idolator? The truth is that no flesh is justified, so why judge off of it's appearance?

So my basic understanding of it's meaning is this. If I desire mercy, I extend it to EVERYONE. Not only to those who think as I do. By the law, not being gay, I have gained a little in that. But I sell it that I may save one who is gay by the righteousness that comes not by the law sin, but the one of liberty. We all get mercy, or none of us gets it.

All scripture is inspired God, meant for making our lives better. To go about doing this, think of the phrase WWJD. And, then, do it. Read the red letter words (find the appropriate red-letter bible) for intimate meaning into God's holy direction for His son, and, hence, for us :)

One other good scripture is from John 1:1-3.....In the beginning was the Word, and the word was with God, and, the Word was God (hmm, that puts things in perspective don't it? :) And, verse 2: He was with God in the beignning. Verse 3 : Through Him all things were madee, wihtout Him nothing was made that has been made. 'Course, verse 3 talks/refers back to Genesis 1 and the beginning of God creating things.

Hi Labarker,
I have not chatted and I am among the least techno of people, but I feel you are in the forum section and not the chat section. Read the instructions at the top of the page and head to the chat room.

Hi Gals and guys,
Seek first the kingdom of Heaven. To do this obey Jesus. Ie Do not resist an evil person. Give to he who asks. Treat people as you would like to be treated. (example) a Bus driver gave me a hand full of small change. I dislike receiving change like that. Therefore as I dislike it, I never pay with small change unless the other person agrees they would prefer it.
Be mindful above all else.Be the last in the queue without making an issue of it. When you put yourself last, Jesus will come and put you first. Follow what your heart desires where it agrees with scripture. Pick up strangers and give them a lift if and when you have a car. Jesus is in charge of time so don't let time stop your acts of love. You wont ever be late if you are acting in love, with a sincere heart for the sake of Jesus. All these commands are in scripture, one only has to apply them to their life and go with them. To do this means your trust (belief) in God through Jesus Christ will grow.
Know that Jesus is not only an historical figure but a living spirit who has been given all authority in heaven and on earth.

There are many ways one can say this.
The simplest way is to choose Jesus.
Choose to do what is set upons ones heart in Jesus, in the word, in ones walk, through the Holy Spirit.
We choose in Jesus, He brings all through ones obedience.
in Jesus, God bless.

Doing the word would mean obeying the word, I think.

Galatians 5 lays it out pretty straightforward:
14For (A)the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, "(B)YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."

15But if you (C)bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.

16But I say, (D)walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out (E)the desire of the flesh.

17For (F)the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, (G)so that you may not do the things that you please.

18But if you are (H)led by the Spirit, (I)you are not under the Law.

19Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: (J)immorality, impurity, sensuality,

20idolatry, (K)sorcery, enmities, (L)strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, (M)disputes, dissensions, (N)factions,

21envying, (O)drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not (P)inherit the kingdom of God.

22But (Q)the fruit of the Spirit is (R)love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23gentleness, (S)self-control; against such things (T)there is no law.

24Now those who belong to (U)Christ Jesus have (V)crucified the flesh with its passions and (W)desires.

25If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk (X)by the Spirit.

26Let us not become (Y)boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.
