Things Satan Would Like Us To Forget...

  1. the cross that Christ bore
  2. the blood that Christ shed
  3. the sins that Christ paid for and put away
  4. the fact of the resurrection of Christ from the dead
  5. the mercy seat that Christ's blood was applied to
  6. the new creature that Christ has made us to be
  7. that every member of the church and body of Christ is a purchased possession
  8. that every believer has been cleansed and forgiven of all sin
  9. that God's promises are all true and He can not lie
  10. that God will never, no never, no never leave us or forsake us
  11. that God does not deal with us according to our sin but according to His righteousness that He has imputed to us
  12. that everything we have from God is all by grace through faith without any works
  13. that we are hid with Christ in God
  14. that Christ has made it possible for sin not to have dominion over us
  15. that there is a throne of mercy and grace to help in the time of need
  16. that he (Satan) blinds the minds of those that believe not
  17. that he (Satan) is a murderer and seeks out those who he can deceive and devour through his lies
  18. that God has delivered us from wrath and condemnation
  19. that we have been called to preach the gospel in all the world
  20. the love, the faith and the hope that we have been given through the word and the Holy Spirit

The above list (and others not mentioned) concerns the areas of God's word and doctrine that Satan does not want preached in pulpits anywhere. He will try to discredit those that preach these things so that believers will not be edified and built up in these truths that are foundational and reveal his defeat through Christ's victory. We must hear these truths repeatedly so that we can have a frame of reference as we give heed to them and are able to have the faith we need to apply them.

Satan wants to emphasize that if the believer is not experiencing the word that they have been taught that it is not relevant nor important to their relationship with God. If we give place to this strategic lie we will begin to only consider those things that God had given that makes us feel good or that we can conform to without faith.

Example: You have just given place to some temptation that got you into sin. God convicts you of the sin and you forsake and turn from it and ask God to forgive you. However, your conscience is living in the guilt of what you have done and that is continually troubling you. You go on but you feel like a hypocrite because of what you have done. You can't seem to be rid of what you have done and you are continually reminded of your sin. This becomes a vicious cycle and you are in bondage to it through your conscience that has no relief and at times it seems worse then the sin that you committed.

When we confess our sin he is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from the unrighteousness of our sin (). The blood of Christ cleansed us not only of the sin but also the work and fruit of that sin in our conscience. For some reason we believe that God forgave us but we not believe that we have been cleansed in our conscience. We believe in a measure that we should have some measure of guilt so that we won't do that again, but that conclusion did not come from God nor does the Holy Spirit have anything to do with that guilt. There is some form of leaven that has gotten into our thinking and we are being effected by that leaven in our conscience.

What is going to deliver us from this cycle of guilt and bondage we enter into every time we sin, though we confess and turn from it?

Satan would like us to forget that he makes the good look bad and the bad look good.

He would also like us to forget that he has a lot of influence on western media.

''the love of money is the root of all evil''

Maybe it's just me, but I'm pretty sure the ''root of all evil'' should probably be in there somewhere, even if it's just number 21 on the list. Maybe even some of Jesus' teachings on HOW to combat the root of all evil, too. matthew 6:24-34 is a good place to start.

There are more and you brought up the subject of evil which is definately one that should be on the list.

21. that the love of money is the root of all evil

Let me ask you this. Can you explan the difference between sin and evil and does the cross and the blood of Christ apply to each? Christ bore our sins upon His body, but did He do the same fo evil? If not then what effect did He have upon evil and how are we do deal with evil?

The greatest device that Satan has to get us to forget these precious truths is to keep us away from hearing these things being preached to us in the power of the Holy Spirit. To keep us away from those that God has raised up for the church and called to preach and teach the word and doctrine. Satan does not want us to continue steadfastly in the the apostle's doctrine and fellowship, breaking of bread and payers as they did in (Acts 2:42) and when they did this people were being saved and added to the church daily (Acts 2:47).

Preaching the word and teaching doctrine is the greatest enemy of the kingdom of darkness because of God's light that is revealed and released into the atmosphere where the principalities, powers and rulers of darkness abide and have their dwelling. We as members of Christ's body should be preaching the word everywhere as they did in (Acts 8:4) whether we are persecuted of not. We should be making the word available and publishing it as a great company of living epistles throughout the world (Ps 68:11, 2Cor 3:2). Satan sifted Peter like wheat because he did not want Peter to speak the words of eternal life that was given to him by the Lord. Satan did not prevail because God had raised up Peter and he spoke the word in power at Pentecost and about 3,000 souls received the word and were saved and baptized (Acts 2:41).

Amen! Having observed the last 50 years, I am convinced that Satan has been instrumental in the decline of American morals and the rise of secularism.

Well, getting back to the root of all evil, I'd say that greed is the biggest factor in taking people away from God, because it can be oh so innocent, too.

For example, who can say it's a sin to work for money so that you can feed your family and pay your rent. Nothing wrong with that, right?

Well, except that is not the way Jesus said to do it. When he compared this generation to that of the days of of Noah, he said the problem was that people were just too busy buying and selling, marrying and giving in marriage, building and planning etc...

Nothing of note worthy evil or sin in those accusations, and yet Jesus STILL had something against them. Was he just being unreasonable? I don't think so. I think the point he was making was that those people were just too busy with the cares of the world to care about what God wanted them to do.

But Jesus was challenging ANYTHING we put before service to him, even the really important stuff like paying bills, marriage, and relationships.

THAT is how satan manages to corrupt so many people. He doesn't need to get us to worship him. All he needs to do is to stop us from worshiping God. And I'm not talking about singing some songs in church.

I'm talking about everyday faithfulness in what Jesus told his followers to do. It works like this. Jesus says to forsake all and seek his kingdom first by going into all the world to teach other people to do the same.

But then satan comes along and appeals to our greed saying stuff like ''surely he didn't really mean ALL, right? What will you do if you try to follow THAT kind of teaching? You'll starve to death, that's what will happen. Surely a God of love wouldn't ask that of you. He forgives you and loves you so don't try to follow any rules that interfere with that. Besides, you can give some donations to missionaries who are willing to do such work. Remember that God loves a cheerful giver, right? Give a donation and God will be satisfied with that, I'm sure. We are all called to different paths and God has called you to be a good witness in your place of work. If you quite your job working for money to preach the gospel full time, who will reach those people at your work? Etc etc etc''

These are the kind of lies that Satan uses to hide the truth and pervert people away from the teachings of Jesus, much like the seeds which fell upon the wayside and didn't grow because the crows came and ate them up!

Or he appeals to our pride and convinces us that our knowledge about other issues like the trinity or rapture or some bible prophecy is far more important than a bunch of rules that sound more like living under the law than living by faith. So we continue on day after day with endless debates struggling to convince others that we are right, while the teachings of Jesus get left behind in contempt for the harsh rules that we have come to believe they are.

Preaching the word and teaching doctrine is the greatest enemy of the kingdom of darkness because of God's light that is revealed and released into the atmosphere where the principalities, powers and rulers of darkness abide and have their dwelling.
That sounds really great, but what about those teachings of Jesus that we don't like, like ''forsake all'' and ''do what I do'' and ''go into all the world teaching others to do as I have commanded you''. Satan loves armchair missionairies who never seem to get around to doing much, but who definitely know how to talk.

What the world needs to see is an EXAMPLE of Christianity. Preaching is fine, but without the action behind it, all people see is another religious nut who thinks God talks to him.

Preaching the gospel, the word and doctrine has to have a starting point and that starting point is your own local Jerusalem. Then it leads and branches out into Judea, Samaria and into the uttermost parts of the world (Acts 1:8, Mk 16:15). For this to happen I have no argument as to what you have said except that as we do this by grace through faith-obedience and taking up our cross, we must also provide for our family (1Tim 5:8)...

But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

That verse is not an issue or whether we serve God or mammon, it is one of providing for our own in the call that we have been given to go into the world and preach the gospel. It is also in support of a local assembly that is obeying that commission as a body of believers. I think you can agree that those who do this must deny themselves and any worldly ambitions they have imagined that involves becoming monetarily enriched with the pleasures of this life that would entangle them with the affairs and cares associated with this life. They have to set themselves apart from being entangled in these things and put their hand to the plow and not turn back in relationship to preaching the gospel, teaching and making disciples of all men (Mt 28:19).

Actually, I'm not quite sure what you are getting at here. You posted a verse that talks about a man providing for his family, and your context was that this verse justifies working for money despite what Jesus said against working for money (in favor of working for love).

However, you also say this:
I think you can agree that those who do this must deny themselves and any worldly ambitions they have imagined that involves becoming monetarily enriched with the pleasures of this life that would entangle them with the affairs and cares associated with this life.
Which sounds like a contradiction because working for money IS a very worldly affair of entanglement in cares and worries, which is opposed to the values of the kingdom of Heaven where they don't work for each other because they expect payment, but out of love and loyalty.

However, I will deal with the verse you specified.
But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
First of all, this verse says NOTHING about working for money. It is something you have assumed. How did Jesus provide for those of his "house" while traveling around with them from village to village for years?

But anyway, lets pretend that you are correct that this verse really is saying that people should be working for money to pay the bills. And lets imagine all the Christians who will be around during the time of the mark of the beast.

The prophecy says no one will be able to buy or sell without it. Uhoh, no more "providing for the family". So, scripture tells them to work for money to pay the bills or they will be no better than infidels and scripture also tells them they will be cursed if they DO work for money to pay the bills..

Gosh, I don't know if you believe you will be around for the mark of the beast or not, but you've certainly painted yourself, or those whom you believe will be around, into one heck of a corner there.

Of course, the contradiction does NOT exists if you can force yourself to believe for one moment that Paul was talking about something deeper than monetary gain when he talked about a man caring for his family.

Personally, I think there is no higher provision a man can show for his family than teaching them to obey and serve God as Jesus instructed.

CCG,

I see from your profile that you are a single man. Do you work and earn money so that you can pay your bills, have a place to live, put gas in your car, go out to eat with others that you love and care for and take care of those things that need to be taken care of? Paul wrote the Thessalonians and it was reported to him that there was certain believers that did not work and were busybodies. He exhorted them that if any would not work they should not eat (2Thes 3:6-12). Have I assumed incorrectly that the work referred to here by Paul includes some monetary exchange? How would you explain (Acts 18:1-3) that speaks of Paul and Aquila being of the same occupation (tent makers)? Did not their occupation provide for them the means that was needed in order to continue on in this life? They did not serve their occupation, they served God, and the monetary means they received from their occupation and others sources that God provided assisted them in the details and demands they were addressed by in their call and duty that God had given them.
