Jerusalem was surrounded by armies in (Nov.) 66 AD, at the beginning of the revolt. Roman commander Cestius Gallus undermined the wall under the Temple -- and then suddenly retreated "without any reason in this world" according to Josephus (Jewish War 2.19).

That fulfilled the Prophesy of Jesus, "when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies" (Luke 21). The retreat of Cestius Gallus buoyed the hopes of all the other (militant) Messianic Jews. But, from Christians' perspective, all of them were following false Messiahs, e.g. Simon Gioras and Eleazar ben Jair. So, unless Christians were acting anti-Christianly, then instead of staying in Jerusalem proclaiming victory, they would have fled from the city.

According to Josephus, "many of the most eminent swam away from Jerusalem as from a sinking ship". The Abomination of Desolation occurred in (Nov.) 66 AD, when Jewish militants sallied forth from Jerusalem, on a Sabbath, during a Festival, and murdered over 500 Roman soldiers, and then, with blood on their hands, fled back to the temple, as the Roman army approached. The temple was defiled in (Nov.) 66 AD, when Jews, proclaiming a false Messiah (Simon Gioras), entered the temple with blood on their hands. When a false Messiah was proclaimed in the temple of Jerusalem, in (Nov.) 66 AD, then it was defiled, and then soon was demolished, by Vespasian.
Yet the ECFs were far from agreed on the AoD as being first century because the times of the Gentiles in Jerusalem had still not been fulfilled as the Roman Empire was still ruling. A future event as expressed by Irenaeus (c. 130-202) Adversus haereses (inter A.D. 180/199) Book V, Chapter 26"John and Daniel have predicted the dissolution and desolation of the Roman Empire, which shall precede the end of the world and the eternal Kingdom of Christ. The Gnostics are refuted, those tools of Satan, who invent another Father different from the Creator."

Part of the problem with your suggestion is that it is Jerusalem that is desolated, and not a temple.

Luke 21:20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh 21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains...

While a million Jews were killed in 70 AD, the Romans came back to kill another 500,000 Jews less than 70 years later. Then in 639 the Roman empire was conquered by the Islamic first Jihad. By the beginning of the 19th century 1200 years of Islam had left Jerusalem a desertified, barren, deserted wasteland. In "A History of the Jews" Paul Johnson writes on page 321: "Between 1827 and 1839, largely through British efforts, the population of Jerusalem rose from 550 to 5,500 and in all Palestine it topped 10,000 - the real beginning of the Jewish return to the Promised Land. In 1838 Palmerston appointed the first western vice-consul in Jerusalem, W.T. Young, and told him 'to afford protection to the Jews generally'."

Another problem with your view is that the AoD is an "it".

Mark 13:14 But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:

2a1a) of the foundation of a building

Fits the Dome of the Rock pretty well, doesn't it?Following is the blasphemous inscription written in Mosaic around the eve of the Dome of the Rock, that stands on the temple mount, as God's prophetic symbol for Islam and its desolation of Jerusalem, and role as the end-time foe of God's people:

"O you People of the Book, overstep not bounds in your religion, and of God speak only the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, is only an apostle of God, and his Word which he conveyed unto Mary, and a Spirit proceeding from him. Believe therefore in God and his apostles, and say not Three. It will be better for you. God is only one God. Far be it from His transcendent majesty that he should have a son."

oops, wait

Luke 21:20 says "Jerusalem surrounded by armies" => AoD is "near"

then, a few sentences later, Luke 21:24 says "Jerusalem will be trodden" by gentiles, until their time is fulfilled

So, Jerusalem was surrounded by armies in 66 AD; the AoD occurred "near" in time thereafter, in 70 AD; and the time of the gentiles continued thereafter, under the pagan empire, until the 4th century AD.

everything occurred, as recorded in Luke 21:

 1. Jerusalem surrounded by armies (66 AD)
 2. AoD (70 AD)
 3. pagan empire (1st - 4th centuries AD)

Don’t know what the abomination of desolation is

But I do know this, its “set up”, its “placed there”, its “stand in the holy place”, its “standing where it ought not”

Daniel 12:11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

Daniel 11:31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.

Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand

Mark 13:14 But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:

Sacrifices were taken away in 66 AD, when the Jews refused to continue sacrifices to Nero. Afterwards, the temple was occupied by militants; the last legitimate Jewish High Priest was deposed (Matthew son of Theophilus, who may have been related to the Theophilus who commissioned Luke to write Luke & Acts); and an illegitimate High Priest installed, by the militants, proclaiming false (not Jesus Christ) Messiahs, and so temple worship was interrupted.

42 months later (approx.) Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 AD.

The 42 months of Dan 12 = Rev 11 = Jerusalem in 67-70 AD = militant Zealot occupation of temple

(the "Zealots" were supposedly full of "zeal" for "God in heaven", as if psychically "possessed" by "un-Holy-Spirit" as it were. That is not to deny, however, that there Exists only One God in heaven.)

You really need to study more. As I tried to tell you before, that is nonsense. You are forcing Scriptures. The 70 AD is one event of many. You claim 70 AD is all events! Not only do you need to study the Bible more, you need to study history more. No offense to you, but you're fixated on that one event, 70 AD, and can't broaden your viewpoint.

Now, you can believe what you want as I have said this once before, God will not make a special event to happen just for you. When you're wrong, you're wrong. That's just the way it's going to be. God's plan is moving along just fine!

The temple had been rendered desolate a couple of decades before that, when Jesus built our temple in 3 days through His crucifixion death and resurrection. The veil in the temple was even ripped in two.
The empty rituals and traditions of the Pharisees declared desolate even before that:

Mat 23:38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

You can't desolate something that is already desolate to begin with. Your post reflects the wishful thinking and desperation of someone trying to advance the 17th century Roman Jesuit counter-reformation invention of partial preterism.
Partial Preterism

Regarding the day-year language of prophecy, quoting from "The False Prophet": "In 1569, the great Anabaptist theologian, Thieleman van Braght, wrote the following in Martyrs Mirror, pages 21-24: 'a thousand two hundred and threescore days, which reckoned according to prophetic language means as many years… let it be reckoned as it may, say we, as a very long period of time.'

Two hundred years later, Matthew Henry, in his 'Commentary of the Whole Bible', came to the same conclusion (Vol VI, page 1157 column 1, para. 2): "….if the beginning of that interval could be ascertained, this number of prophetic days, taking a day for a year, would give us a prospect of when the end might be."

Isaac Newton - "She is nourished by the merchants of the earth, three times or years and an half, or 42 months, or 1260 days: and in these Prophecies days are put for years." - Observations Upon the Prophecies of Daniel, and the Apocalypse of St.a John - Chapter 3

Even 19th century Jamison, Faucett & Brown commentary invoking the same as the common knowledge that it was - "..... in the wilderness 'a thousand two hundred and threescore days.' In the wider sense, we may either adopt the year-day theory of 1260 years..."

oh no! say it isn't so!

considering your pals had to call reinforcements, i'm not unhappy with your feelings toward me.

Well, I just read this entire post. I'm new here and I'm trying to get to know all of you. I've learned a lot on this one thread. I know therapon is a true Christian. Why do I know this? Based SOLELY on this thread alone, I heard him say countless times he follows the Lord. He also stated multiple times that leading people to the Lord is the most important thing we must do. I also learned that you, Zone and 1stillwaters, didn't even see that point made a dozen of times. Instead, you bashed him. So, let me ask you this. What is more important to you. Leading people to Christ or getting your doctrine in order? I see clearly, especially with zone, that doctrine is far more important than leading the lost to salvation. If you are a true Christian, then act like one. If I came to this site to see if becoming a Christian is for me, from all your posts you wrote, I assure you that being a Christian is not for me. I'd PERSONALLY would say..."SCREW THIS!!!" For me, it would be easier to live without it. Zone, you seriously will drive me AWAY from salvation with an attitude like that!!!! Thank God that I am firmly bonded with Jesus and I have also asked prayers for all like you.

Therapon is absolutely correct. The best thing is to ignore people like you that don't have the correct concept of Bible theology. Some people are indeed UN-teachable! Missionaries don't drag people through the mud. They lift them out of the mud!

I need no reinforcements. I know what is real. However, if they wish to back me up, that's fine too. I see you're way off base in many ways. I speak my mind as to what I see whether it's Scriptural or attitudes. Attitudes that are condescending shows the true nature of a person. Agreed, we, being only human, makes mistakes and do or say things we ought not say or do. It is those I let go of. I see many people here that don't have an open dialog. Instead they bash! You bash repeatedly. You show no interest in good dialog practice. Instead of hearing why somebody believes the way they do, you bash them because, whatever they believe in, they are wrong in your eyes. Well, what if they are right? Not saying they are, but what if? You just missed out in a perfect opportunity to learn something new. I visualize you don't want or need to learn anything new. You're right and everybody else that doesn't share your view is wrong even if you (not knowing this) are dead wrong. The only path you show me of which you, or anybody else, will see they are wrong, is to die and face the cold hard facts. That goes for everybody, including myself.

Thanks. As many people have told you yet you don't listen very well, if you intend to insult me intentionally, I request you keep your comments to yourself. I have no problems discussing points of views in the proper dialog context. If you have issues to what I said, in a Scriptural sense, by all means, comment on it and keep it civilized!!!

I wonder if people ever read their own posts when critizing peoplefor not accepting their view? It amazes me to see a person post how people bash and wont accept other points of views and in previous posts bash people about their views being non-sense and need study the bible more and history more. Just amazes me.

I feel fine. And you? I understand most of the principles that you teach. A great majority of them. For instance as a simple one to focus on for all the people who see a 7 year trib coming in the future. I ask them where they get that from. Not because I don't know already, I just want to hear why they feel that way and what lead them to it. The answer is Dan 9:27. That is the ONLY verse in the entire book that even suggests a 7 year period.

My entire point is, I want to know if people can back up what they say. Also I know some people are bull headed. I met a few using this thinking process. I read the Bible like a science project. Science learns things by playing the "What if" game. What would happen IF.....

So, my question to you, did you even try any of these other things you heard of (not necessarily mine)? No? If not, why? How do you know it's not right unless you look at each and every one of them as a possibility. That's just how I work. You may find that one thing that was said makes absolutely no sense or you just don't agree with for whatever reasons. The proper method to handle this problem is to just assume it is correct, just for now, and see how it works out. If your study on this subject seems to be flowing smoothly without any contradictions, you just might be on the right track. If not, go back and re-study the one that has problems.

If you automatically dismiss the first one because you disagreed with it for whatever reasons, you will probably miss out on the entire package! Just because you said it was wrong!

If you have issues to what I said, in a Scriptural sense, by all means, comment on it and keep it civilized!!!
i've spent more time analyzing Skolfield's stuff than you have.
it's total nonsense.

he didn't even write it.
the 70th week is a "different kind" of week...a magic one.

of coarse you being new may think someone isnt proper...since only the brazen posts catch your eye
and id bet you havnt checked to see if it was over the same thing already dealt with many many times
already. And you can also think some are just not with it because they may be ten steps ahead of you.
and really its you who isnt with it.

One more thing...anyone can say " i just wuv people and want to show them Jesus" really? is that
provable? And does Jesus like us to change His word to be more sellable?

Youve really put up a great boast...now lets see how you do. And after 10,000-20,000 posts
lets check again.:pwe get lots of the perfect type up in here:cool:

LOL Bista I have no dog in this fight. Not sure why you posted my quote and claim principles I teach??? I was just commented that you accused zone of bashing people for her post calling someones post nonsense. When you, as I understood your post, did the same thing.
