Psalm 100:4 (NIV) says:

Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.

What are your thoughts about this verse, and the many verses that talk about praising and thanking the Lord. Why do you think we should give praise and thanksgiving while we worship the Lord?

One reason I always begin with praise every time I worship God or spend time in prayer is that praise helps me get my focus on God and off myself, which sets the proper tone for my time that I spend with the Lord. Another reason I praise God during my worship is because He is worthy to receive my praise, and as His child I am happy to give Him the praise due His name. Also, Jesus began with praise in his model prayer that he gave to His disciples when they asked Him to teach them how to pray. (Luke 11:1-2)

What are your thoughts about praise?

It definitely prepares the heart to get off of frivolous things and on to God.
