Just curious whether or not anyone else out there goes to a Disciples of Christ church. I have yet to meet anyone on here who does (other than myself, that is)

If you aren't sure what this denomination is, the official website is here: http://www.disciples.org/

I saw your web site and it didn't take me long to see what I needed to see ,

Lu 4:4And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not LIVE BY BREAD ALONE, but by every word of God.

any denomination that allows women as Pastors can not be living by the Word of God, it comes from them having authority, this is the part that they are breaking when they do.

1ti 2:12But I suffer not a WOMAN to TEACH, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

it comes all the back from when Eve was deceived, and no one can find anything that does away with this commandment, another point is :

1ti 3:1This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.1ti 3:2A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

Tit 1:5For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:Tit 1:6If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

This is confirmed twice in the new testament and if we can say that this doesn't apply to the Church today then how do we know that John 3:16 still applies. Now before you respond I know about Anna in Luke 2 telling all jerusalem about Jesus but it says nothing about her authority in the temple. If this commandment has been done away with show me from scriptures please!!

You're welcome, MusicalMe, although I was not able to answer any questions about Disciples of Christ. I have known a couple of people affiliated with that denomination, but I do not have personal knowledge of it.

#1. Women shouldn't be teaching nor preaching in the assembly. If men are present, then women are not allowing the men to be submissive to Christ in being leaders in the assembly.

#2. None of the four priorities of the Church has listed preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I would believe that would be the main priority, but as it is, its priorities speaks of the church more than Christ.

#3. Its identity is not about the faith in Jesus Christ but a "movement of wholeness in a fragmented world". Again, the church is speaking of itself and the glory of that church in its works.

#4. Although the "stated" mission of the Church is to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ, its words and actions are centered on social issues of their community thus boasting of making the difference and not the difference Jesus Christ makes.

John 5:31If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.

John 7:18He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

2 Corinthians 4: 5For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. 6For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

John 3:30He must increase, but I must decrease.

Let others testify of the good works of the church and let the church testify of Jesus Christ. If the church are doing good works, then they need not testify that they are doing it. The community will testify.

It's interesting how a simple question about whether or not anyone else here goes to a certain church has become an attack...

Yeah, I've noticed that there are a couple of CC members who regularly hijack threads and get argumentative or off topic . . .

Unfortunately, that's ussually how it goes here in CC. Some people just don't know how or when to hold their tongue. I've learned that's what denominational pride can do to a person.

I should have known better to have commented seeing as I seem to be one of their favorite targets. I apologize if trouble has followed me..

Jas 3:1 My brethren, be not many teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
Jas 3:2 For in many things we all offend. If any man offendeth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.

as I stated its the authority part that is wrong the scriptures says that your sons and daughters will prophesy. but prophesy is not teaching it is just repeating what God says , it is God that is teaching, and a prophet is just the vessel

church of christ does not believe that the works of Jesus Christ was enough for our attonement , that you have to be water baptized in order to be saved. Another works plus faith Gospel: actually their faith lays in water baptism instead of Jesus
Ro 3:24Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:Ro 3:25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;Ro 3:26To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.Ro 3:27Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.Ro 3:28Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

All Christian leaders are vessels through whom God teaches and ministers, whether prophets, pastors, apostles, teachers, etc., because we are preaching and teaching the Word of God. If it is not God who is teaching (or behind the teaching), then we should not listen to the vessel, whether it is a man or a woman.

I think you might be misunderstanding her original post. She was asking about Disciples of Christ denomination.

But a bishop or pastor is the only one that is defined as a overseer, the only one with authority and even as the pastor will give authority to a deacon in the pastors absence thus we have

1ti 3:12Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

Eph 5:23For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the HEAD OF THE CHURCH: and he is the saviour of the body.
Ac 20:28Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you OVERSEERs, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
Christ is over the Church and has appointted overseers

Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913 + 1828)

ARTFL > Webster's Dictionary > Searching for overseer:
Displaying 1 result(s) from the 1828 edition:

OVERSEE''R, n.
1. One who overlooks; a superintendent; a supervisor.
2. An officer who has the care of the poor or of an idiot, &c.
I am showing you scriptures show me wrong from scriptures not someone elses opinion.
