you might not know sin but you would still do it. with the commandments also came the blessing that if we confess and repent of our sins Jesus will forgive and heal us.

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,[c] fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders,[d] drunkenness, revelries, and the like;
the world just burns with those evils.

Will not it be more tolerable for them in the day of judgement then those that are after? Cain was cursed also before the law came. The question is of what law are we talking about. The royal law is eternal and summed up in love. And though they broke these spirit laws, how is it IMPUTED when no God spoke it?

The Law was always there. although maybe not specifically mentioned in the Bible. for if no law existed, then how could Lucifer have sinned? and if he never sinned, why was he thrown out of heaven? so by that logic, we should be able to conclude that the law was always in place.
with regard to the sin. James 1 says:
"13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither does He tempt any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."
with regard to the sin. James 1 says:

I would first see condemnation, realising ones own sin, thus bringing separation, fear.
But self , flesh , want can be destructive as well.
It may also be not what one has, but does not have, trust, childlike faith, hope and love !
But, I have seen how condemnation brings the most separation, that is why Jesus said, "I do not come to condemn the world, but to save it!"
