Nowadays, we all have Bibles and can defend our faith quoting different passages out of our Bibles, including the New Testament. Right after Jesus was crucified, they had no New Testament. What did they base their faith on? Whatever it was, would it still work today?

They had the teachings of the Apostles, passed on to learned men. They had the Church, established by Our Lord to preach His gospel. The question is, which of the many churches out there is THE Church? I have my view, but I would encourage you to look into it yourself. We are fortunate in that with the advent of the Internet, we can read some of the earliest Christian writings online. Find them, read them, then start looking for the Church that believes like them. The Didache would be a good start.

The testimony of the Church (1 Tim. 3:15, Matthew 16:16); the testimony of the Holy Spirit in the Church (John 16:13), the spoken tradition of the Church (2 Thess. 2:15). Yes, it still works today. The Church is the correct interpreter of the NT. Outside of the Church are many false, man-made traditions and twisting of the Scriptures. In Erie PA Scott R. Harrington

1. Jesus used the OT to prove who he was, and what he would do.

2. Appolos used scripture to prove who Jesus was (acts 18)

3. Paul reasoned with scripture many times, to show who Christ was, and how to be saved. (Acts)

4. Paul in 1 cor showed that Christ died according to scripture (OT)

5. Paul told timothy he had enough knowledge to be saved as a Child (the only thing Timothy would have had was the OT)

They based their faith on the prophets and promises of the OT. It is all they needed, It is all we really need. But God has blessed us by giving us personal account of Christ fulfilling OT prophesy, and removing sin on the Cross. And also the rest of the NT which shows the apostles struggles, The struggles of the Early Church. And instruction on How god wants us as individuals, and the church to act. things he wants us to do. And the great Love God has for us.

As you can see, we have two gentleman who spoke before me who seem to think the OT was not enough. We must listen to men. for only they can show is truth. If Jesus, and the apostles thought the OT was enough to bring us to Christ and save us. Why do we need men who lived a few thousand years ago to tell us what to believe and what not to believe.

Seek God with an open heart. He will show you the way. Search scripture, because as paul said, You will know how to be saved. Test each spirit to see if they are from God or not.

First and foremost, they had the Old Testament. We can see that the writers of the New Testament quoted the Old Testament frequently, using it as the basis for their writings. I know it still works today because I frequently find myself quoting out of the Old Testament, not just the New. In addition to that, they had the teachings of Jesus, which were being spread by his apostles, who received these teachings from Jesus directly, and through the churches that they were establishing.

RIf you read what happened after Jesus rose from the dead, what did he teach the Apostles?

Infact go the beginning of Acts, now we see they still did not fully understand, have a read for yourself you will see it, Jesus explained it and all that had been taught to them from all of Scripture became apparent to them.. It's all ther Ress. That is why, we had the Apostles, thats wehy God Chose them.

It is a well known fact that the letter of James was written AD 45 (app). Now the careful reader will notice how similar it is to Matthew's sermon on the mount.

We also know that there plenty of written records that we do not have now, they were probably snippets. Check out Lukes statements.

So the Fact is, if we never had the NT or the original Apostles, we would not have a clue, for man would have distorted it las he does now and that is with the Scripture, what would it be like without it?????

Another point is that nearly 2 thirds of the NT are direct or indirect quotes from the OT,

remember Jesus saying.. 'It is written''! were was it written? the OT,

The reasons we have real problems in the church today is because of Biblical illiteracy, and thats even those christian who have been saved for years but still drink milk.

OT _ Promises made

NT- promises fulfilled.

They are 2 parts of one record.

Its a good question Ress, but its a no goer, because God ordained that we have a written record....
