"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men." Matthew 5:13

I read this verse in another thread and was wondering, is this verse true?
Is it an actual fact that salt, once it has lost it's flavor, can never be made salty again?

In the context of Christians, if we loose our 'saltiness', we are fated to be thrown out?

I once worked at a restaurant that served fried chicken and the chicken would sometimes be close to going bad and would smell, so what they would do is put lots of salt on the raw chicken and then after a small time rinse it off and it would be almost as good as new, knowing this fact I can detect when restaurants do that with different meats.

In the days before refrigeration they would layer pork and salt in a barrel and when you wanted pork you would take some out dust the salt off and soak it overnight and then you would have fresh pork that was perfectly fine. and it would store for months.

Some salt is more salty than others and so less will flavor more things like sea salt.

When you have the life of God flowing into you , you get more salty, it is the function of the believer to preserve the world, without us the world would spoil.

Something else happens when rivers flow into an inland sea that has no outlet, the water stagnates and has all kinds of chemicals like the dead sea and everything dies. we need to have an outlet for what God gave us to flow to otherwise we stagnate and die.

I don't know allot about chemistry but when you get one thing replaced by another, getting it put back the way it was must take some work and time.

Good question. I don't know the answer.

This is the OSAS question. (once saved always saved). I believe the bible teaches that if you're a Christian, you are literally born of God. It's incorruptible seed. I Pet 1:23 While you may lose rewards for "backsliding", you cannot lose your salvation.

I Cor 3:15) If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

I know others disagree.........

It seems to me the Lord raises a question without giving an answer. He asks, “But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?” without telling us if it can or can’t be made salty again.
