1 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.
3 And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.
4 And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.
6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.
11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.
12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Hebrews 5

1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
3 And this will we do, if God permit.
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.
Hebrews 6

Grow up. Stop being milk suckers is what I call it<smile>. I can remember being in bible study and every week it was faith, you have to have faith, faith, faith. I wanted to scream. God gives us all faith the bible says so. It becomes a matter of are you going to have faith or not. Decide yes I'm going to have faith. I will believe in things I don't see yet.
So I'm there hearing faith, faith you have to have faith. In my spirit I was Lord why are we hearing this over and over? I have faith. By the grace of God he gave all of us faith. He even said a tiny bit of faith moves mountains. Instead of screaming I said when are we going to go past faith and be the power of God? People looked at me like I was crazy. I wasn't crazy. Faith is what is taught to babies.
It shouldn't take 20 years and one still doesn't have faith. If that is so something is very wrong check yourself. Do you believe in God or not? Is God all powerful or not? To not have faith means you think God is a liar and can't help you in your life. Is that what you think about God? We must use our faith that God says we do have to get through this world. We are to use our faith, live in it and walk in it. We can't stick faith in our pockets and say I'm going to bring this faith out of my pocket and use it if times get really, really bad and see if it works.

Yes the more knowledge the more faith; without knowledge is blind faith.
Faith does not come of thin air, it builds up as we know more about God.
The muslems have faith too, faith in mohamad and they love to get their hands on the 72 virgins. thank you TIGGER.

what is an oracle of God?

many would state they no longer exist.

If people don't know the first principles of the oracles of God, then they are not even babes with milk but fetuses yet to be born again.

John 3:3-8 (New King James Version)

3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

It is not about the future or the past but a day by day walk with Christ.

Matthew 6:33-34 (New King James Version)

33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

anyone who would state the oracles of God no longer exist has either lost their Bible, or deny its Authority.

some people wish to claim apostolic era authority and make themselves NEW oracles of God, since they deny canon is closed.

those people would indeed need to be born again. they would need to repent, and believe the Gospel.

Of the oracles of God - Of the Scriptures, or what God has spoken; see the notes on Romans 3:2. The phrase here may refer to the writings of the Old Testament, and particularly to those parts which relate to the Messiah; or it may include all that God had at that time revealed in whatever way it was preserved; in 1 Peter 4:11, it is used with reference to the Christian religion, and to the doctrines which God had revealed in the gospel. In the passage before us, it may mean" the divine oracles or communications," in whatever way they had been made known. They had shown that they were ignorant of the very rudiments of the divine teaching.

Hebrews 8:7-13 (New King James Version)

A New Covenant
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. 8 Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the LORD. 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 11 None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds[a] I will remember no more.”
13 In that He says, “A new covenant, ” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

that just makes me want to stay home, read my Bible and pray for the world for like a year.

it just makes me sad Zone that so many people have wandered so far from God.

However, since I can't spend all my life in my house praying for the safety of God's people from the psychopaths of this world.

I will just have to trust that God will take care of it and do whatever God asks of me to do. I will focus on Jesus and His message on what we as His followers should do:

Ephesians 6:10-20 (New King James Version)

The Whole Armor of God
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[a] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

that is why we we have to put sound doctrine before ANYTHING ELSE.
how can we do anything for anyone that has fallen into that stuff Chris (and so many others) covers if we ourselves are not grounded and rooted firmly in the faith delivered ONCE FOR ALL?

today's "christianity" that wants these new things, to be relevent, to lay a new foundation....finds words like "sound doctrine" to be "dead", and any other number of disparaging things, as we see.

the great irony is it is that sinful man-centered new theology that has us in this mess.

i know what you mean about feeling sad about it. you said "I will just have to trust that God will take care of it and do whatever God asks of me to do"

God wants us to get it right when it comes to His Word so we don't just stay home or despair. we just have to do the hard work, keep studying diligently, discard what is wrong and keep pointing to it >> DANGER: DEAD END.

zone there is so many lies and false doctrine out there that it would take thousands of lifetimes to learn all the lies the enemy spreads. I don't bother unless I meet someone who actually believe in the junk. then I search for scripture to find out why my heart tells me "warning warning demon alert" I don't know what you believe demons are but I always thought they were "rulers of darkness of this age" Darkness is anything that blinds people from God's truth:

Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, died for our sins on the cross and rose again. We need to repent and confess our sins and ask God for forgiveness.

Many will deny the need for repentance, but I think it is a daily need to confess and ask God for guidance. That is why Jesus told us to pray DAILY this prayer:

Luke 11

2 So He said to them, “When you pray, say:

Our Father in heaven,[a]
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins,
For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one

i see.
well, i thought i'd mention it anyway.

i don't know of any true christian who doesn't believe we need forgiveness daily.

there are the 'holiness people' who believe the Wesleyan/Finney christian perfectionism doctrine...but like i said: sound doctrine is the best innoculation against such things. maybe i'm just old fashioned.

anyways.

yes but everyone tells you they have "sound doctrine"

you have to use discernment and the guidance of the Holy Spirit to figure out what is Biblical and what is just doctrine of men. as Chris says "compare what people say in the name of God with the Word of God" You can't just stick to what anyone teaches as "sound doctrine" you have to compare it yourself with God's Word.

"old fashioned"?

I don't judge people as "true christians" or not but I've meet alot of people claiming to be Christian that have stated that "once you are saved you can't sin."

False versus true doctrine....mmm..

Its more important to know GOD's will in your life and not just doctrine, because the Bible says "to everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven" (Ecclesiastes 3)

God gives everyone their own tasks to do with their life. the key thing is to worship God with your whole heart, mind and soul.

Just be careful not to be contentious. State the truth, if they accept it then that is good but if they do not then do as God tells one and do not engage in arguments.

Titus 3:8-11 (New King James Version)

8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.

Avoid Dissension
9 But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless. 10 Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition, 11 knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self-condemned.

James 1:25-27 (New King James Version)

25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
26 If anyone among you[a] thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless. 27 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

Perhaps if you read and ponder these verses of scripture, you will see the importance of doctrine in the believer's life, the kind of believers that God teaches His doctrine and that many believed because of His doctrine. You will also see the importance that Jesus placed upon doctrine and just what kind of doctrine to beware of.

Deut 32:2 My doctrie shall drop as rain...
Prov 4:2 I give you good doctrine...
Is 28:9 Whom shall He teach knowledge and to understand doctrine...
Is 29:4 ...they that murmured shall understand doctrine
Mt 7:28 the people were astonished as His doctrine...Mt 22:33, Mk 1:22, 11:18, Acts 13:12
Mt 16:6-12 BEWARE...
Mk 4:2 ...He said unto them in His doctrine
Mk 12:38 He said unto them in His doctrine BEWARE...
Jn 7:16,17 ...my doctrine is His that sent me and if you do His will you will know it
Jn 18:19 The high priest asked Jesus of His doctrine...
Acts 2:42 And they continued in the apostle's doctrine...
Acts 5:28,29 Peter and the apostles filled Jersalem with their doctrine...
Rom 6:17 ...you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine

You can look up the rest if you wish and I hope that God impresses upon your heart the absolute necessity for doctrine in the life of the believe in all things and that we get to know and have fellowship with the Lord through His doctrine.

1Cor 14:6,26, Eph 4:14

The only sound doctrine is the doctrine of Jesus Christ, and the message of his gospel. Anyone who does not hear that doctrine has already believed in false doctrine. And any other doctrine other than what HE has already established and spoken of is not of God, but of Satan. May Jesus bless you.

What do you think is God's will for you in this life? Do you think everyone has the same purpose? Is everyone made the same with the same talents and abilities? Does everyone have the same job to do on Earth? Is everyone doctors, teachers, etc?

balk? two words: Self Righteous

Have you ever heard a preacher claiming to teach Unsound Doctrine? There is more to God then just words on a page and more to life then going through the motions. In the end everyone must answer to God for our individual actions and beliefs.

Matthew 12:36-37 (New King James Version)

36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.
