I believe you should be submissive to your husband.... as to weather i will be will im married..... dont know. I have a very strong personality and very strong opinions, its gonna be really hard to keep quiet about certain things.. .... I do think that in a good marriage though, the wife wont realize shes being submissive, it will just come because she'll love her husband that much... for the part of being submissive to your dad if your not married...... would give that a big negative...

ok Heres some bible verses I found
Eph 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Eph 5:24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Num 30:3 If a woman also vow a vow unto the LORD, and bind herself by a bond, being in her father's house in her youth;
Num 30:4 And her father hear her vow, and her bond wherewith she hath bound her soul, and her father shall hold his peace at her: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand.
Num 30:5 But if her father disallow her in the day that he heareth; not any of her vows, or of her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand: and the LORD shall forgive her, because her father disallowed her.

It is easier for a woman to act like Sarah if she is married to an Abraham. Be sure to marry a man who you know beyond a shadow of a doubt is a spiritual leader and truly interested in what is best for you and the family.

If you trust him enough to say "I do" then you should trust him period.

my thoughts..... well...*takes a deep breath* yes, IF the husband is a godly man . When the husband acts accordingly towards his wife as the bible says she should have absoultely no problem being submissive * yuck i dont like that word* :p anyway. With Ronnie and myself we discuss things and may have differing views, but when the rubber meets the road the final decision is usually his. ..... at times we have differing views as to a biblical interpetation of something and if I believe Gods word tells me to do differently i do because ......its better to obey God than man...thats my thoughts dont stone me plz . :D

Well 1 Peter 3 says:

1Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives,..

It doesn't say only if the husband is godly. It says to submit to them "so that if any of them do not believe the word" (and KJV says if any do not "obey" the word) they may be won over by their wives behavior. Clearly, it includes ungodly husbands.

Of course God is the higher authority and if a man tells his wife to go kill somebody, then okay it doesn't apply, if you're really looking for an exception.

But anyway look at it this way. The main command to a husband is to love his wife. So does that apply only if the wife is godly? The main command to a wife is to submit to her husband. Does that apply only if the man is godly?

Yes ND and it also teaches that sometimes, Christians are called to suffer. I suffered at the hands of a very ungodly, rebellious woman for 3 1/2 years, trying to obey God in my role and love her. :D Likewise, sometimes wives are called to suffer -- to obey God in their marriage even when the husband is not obeying God in his role.

RoboOp,

I wanted you to know how grateful I am for what you have posted on this thread. It has been short but sound and very balanced. There is no quile in what you have communicated and I personally appreciate that and I know others do as well. It is amazing sometimes, the things that we need to hear come from others when your not even expecting it. Thanks for posting what you have, it makes a difference.

I believe that the wife must first be submissive to GOD and then to her husband. I am a wife. It is hard sometimes but ultimately my husband will answer to GOD on how he treats me and my kids.
GOD first, husband second.

Respectfully, Hope

Thanks BLC.

And yes, ThereisHope.. actually the way a married woman obeys God (one major way) is by obeying her husband.

And yes, one thing that keeps me in line is this:

7Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
1 Peter 3

If I don't treat my wife right, God won't answer my prayers. And I really need God to answer my prayers!
