Hey all,

Im 19 and I know its Gods will for me to be a preacher in the future. When I asked my pastor if I could send him a sermon for him to look over and for me to eventually preach he gave me a look that said "your far too young to preach"

Is it wrong for me to want to do a sermon? Should I wait until ive been trained? What do you guys think?

Well I don't think so, do you desire it passionately? Are you ready? Do you know the bible well enough? I seem very young to preach, but it seems like I am about to be a pastor. Not trying to brag or boast. I think it would be great and if it is by His will. My pastor I think is teaching me about becoming a teacher, as if I am taking his place. He says I might be next in line. He does do separate bible studies with me besides the every week bible study. I think you can, pray to the Lord, what's His will for you?

I think you you should be allowed to preach if GOd calls you to it. I've heard a 14 year old preach about God's glory and someone posted a wonderful testimony by a child who was only 8 years old about the various books of the BIble and how GOd is in all of them.

If God has already called you to it... you can talk some more to your Pastor and hopefully he will get what your trying to say.
you mentioned about not knowing anything about Hebrew and Greek, for starters you could get a strong's concordance. I think it's alll you need, you don't have to be fluent at hebrew or anything like that ..
and may God bless your ministry.. :)

Charles Haddon Spurgeon started preaching at 19, he became one of the most well known preachers of his time, preaching to thoudands each week, 'nothing but Christ and him crucified' meaning the gospel truth.

You will know soon enough if God has called you to become a Pastor/Minister, but whilst waiting go out and evangelize.. you will soon know if preaching is your calling, for a true pastor/teacher is called.

Jesus was 12 when He spoke in the Temple:

Luke 2
41 His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. 43 When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother[l] did not know it; 44 but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances. 45 So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. 46 Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. 48 So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.”
49 And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” 50 But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.

Just study and do as God leads you to :) we'll keep you in our prayers

~ 1 Timothy 4:12 ~ "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity."

Ok let me be clear again, im not talking about being a pastor, as i said i already know thats Gods will for me through a gideon experiment. My question was related to preaching one sermon in the church I go to before going to seminary and finally building my own church.

Also for those who have mentioned Jesus, yes he was young but he was also GOD Himself so of course he was able to. As for charles spurgeon thats all well and good but I dont believe in untrained preaching, it may be good in some cases but i think it could be quite dangerous :)

And for me personally I dont just want a strongs concordance it doesnt go into near enough depth for me on the words, and Id rather know them myself after learning.

Thank you all for your input though :)

I think any humble, chaste, sober person who loves the Lord with all their hearts, minds, and souls, and loves their neighbors as themselves is qualified to preach.

Lad, it boils down to your pastor letting you do the one sermon. Are you set up for seminary already? One question to ask yourself, is that sermon for you to preach or did God give it to you to give to your pastor? And does it matter who preaches it as long as it gets preached. Shalom

Well im saving up for the bond to live in Auckland but next year i should be in seminary :) And its for me to preach I believe cos I think God wouldve said 'this is for your pastor' instead of 'you could preach on this'... And it only matters because my preaching style is very different to his and indeed the sermon would be completely different to what he usually preaches so what I would write wouldnt really be best coming from his mouth.

ever think of preaching at a nursing home?

I was visiting and we had some youth preaching there every week. I try and take the kids once a month to give out handmade cards and stuff to the residents. it makes them smile and my kids love it when people smile at them.

just a thought they would love the visit if nothing else. you might even find a retired pastor living there who can give you advice about preaching :)

don't be discouraged, you pastor didn't beat you as they did the Apostles in the book of Acts when the Jewish leaders threaten them and forbid them to teach in the name of Jesus.

I grew up with a pastor who said, if someone came to him and said they had a calling to preach, he'd tell them to get their sermon ready, they're on for Sunday night....
