Holiness is the very nature of God " HOLY" defines as "dedicated or set apart for the services of God; living a life of spiritual purity". Holiness in our lives is conforming to the character of God and living in the way that will please him. Holiness is not to be considered an option just for those who desire to walk a little closer with God. Rather the Lord sees it as a requirement for every child of God. Because of our love for Him,we desire to be like him in our affections,attitudes,thoughts and actions.

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: ( Hebrews 12:14 )

A change in our affections -

before we came to Christ, we set our affections on things which were gratifying to our natural desires. we got a new objective for our affections .

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. ( Colossians 3:1 )

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
( 1 John 2:15-17 )

A change in our attitudes -

But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
( Colossians 3:8-10 )

But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
( Romans 13:14 )

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. ( Colossians 3:12-14 )

Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
( 1 Peter 2:3 )

Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. ( 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 )

And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. ( 1 Corinthians 6:11 )

A change in our thinking -

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: ( Philippians 2:5-6 )

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. ( Romans 12:1-2 )

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. ( Philippians 4:8)

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
( 2 Corinthians 10:5-6 )

A change in our actions -

And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
( Ephesians 5:18-20 )

Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
( Proverbs 20:1 )

Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. ( 1 Corinthians 6:18 )

Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; ( 1 Peter 2:11 )

Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. ( Ephesians 4:28 )

I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.
A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person.
Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.
Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me.
He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.
I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD. ( Psalm 101:3-8 )

Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. ( 1 Corinthians 15:33 )

Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. ( Ephesians 4:25 )

How to be Holy -

And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
( Ephesians 4:24 )

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. ( Psalm 119:11 )

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Do not err, my beloved brethren. ( James 1:12-16 )

Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
( Mark 14:38 )

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. ( James 4:7 )

The beauty of Holiness -

it is true that God does not judge by the outside appearance .what this means is that God makes his judgments based on all the facts. Not just the superficial appearance.God does care, however about your outward appearance as a christian.God's people were given standards to live by that separated them from the rest of the world.the Lord still wants his people to be separate.

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
( 2 Corinthians 6:17-18 )

Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. ( Matthew 23:26 )

Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. (1 Peter 3:3-4 )

I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. ( 1 Timothy 2:8-10 )

The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God. ( Deuteronomy 22:5 )

Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
(1 Corinthians 11:14 )

But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
(1 Corinthians 11:15 )

If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. (1 Corinthians 3:17 )

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
( 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 )

O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth. ( Psalm 96:9 )

When we become Christians,our whole life changes.many changes occur right away and some occur gradually.as children of God ,we should refrain from actions and activities that would pull us back to our old way of living.this is a continuing process made possible by our yielding to God as He leads us by His Spirit.

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. ( 2 Corinthians 7:1 )


Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. ( 1 Peter 1:16 )
