Are "Is _____ Evil?" Threads Evil?

Hmmmm...well, Phil 4:8 says:

"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."

Certainly we must study the scriptures and be sensitive to the Holy Spirit's warnings re: evil/harmful things, but I don't know that it's good to spend a great deal of time pondering what is evil, in light of the above scripture. So, perhaps my best answer to your question is actually a question: Since we are called to edify one another, which is more edifying to the body to ponder?

As most "is... evil" threads make the assumption that it IS, then I'd say they are bad, as they in that case are judgmental.
(I can't remember a such thread where the thread starter later said "oh, btw, I think .... is OK". )

Also, some of the problem is that people seem to make some things SO much worse than others.
i.e: some say if you are gay you go to hell, some say if you commit suicide you go to hell. what they forget is:

But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca,' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.


I am willing to guess that most of us at some point said that to someone....
also, these threads seem to forget that God forgives those who repent. After all, if He didn't, what would be the point of Jesus?

Depends what the " ______ " is. With the most recent threads, such as "Is Catholicism evil?", I don't think they actual serve any purpose but to push Christians away from one another. On the other hand, filling that blank with something like "gluttony" or "extramarital relations", then yes I think most people would agree those topics are evil.

On the other hand, filling that blank with something like "gluttony" or "extramarital relations", then yes I think most people would agree those topics are evil.
Good point. As somebody else pointed out, the people starting most of these threads appear to have already formed an opinion before getting the input they are requesting. And anything that pushes Christians apart is "evil". As Paul said in a letter to Timothy, "Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen." (2 Timothy 2:14)

Also, the main reason for my post; I LOVE your avatar. :)

Not necessarily--- as this forum has proven ANY topic is open to debate :)
