Smile Do you believe in speaking in tounges?

Just wanted to see how many people believe in speaking in tounges, if you don't why do you believe that it's different than in the Bible where they speak in tounges?

well i do but the catch is that it comes with a whole bunch of very unknowledgeable Christians that are so blind and barely know anything about the Bible that i prefer not to get close to the Christians that do

the apostles do not use translators .. and their preaches were understood by many nations in the same time .. and do not use school or courses to learn foreign languages like the members of "pentecostal" sect

i do beleive in speaking in tongues, but i think God expects us to more for the kingdom of God than to limit our faith in speaking it....cuz thats what the early church did, the touch of holy spirit wasnt just a one day thing but it was a constant communion with God,
Today church has taken a step in speaking in tongues but if its the only thing that makes us say that we are filled in holy spirit than we are in big trouble cuz Jesus said YOU SHALL RECEIVE POWER WHEN THE HOLY SPIRIT HAS COME UPON YOU..
Power to live holy, power to see strength in weakness and still able to bear our own cross.. \
i have intention to prove any points cuz i have none, you may speak in tounges all day long but if u dont have the power to live holy u have nothing..the early church stood for one thing is to gloryfy God and we goota chek our lives daily : are we living this life for his glory or am i trying to prove my self right..
i will not ask christians do you beleive in tongues but have you received the power of God wen u got saved to live for the kingdom

Yes, I do. I consider myself to be an "Absolute" or "Pure" Continuationist. What this means is that I believe that right now we are living in the New Covenant church age which began with Pentecost and will end when Christ himself returns. I believe that every NT promise and gift is relevant for today seeing as the Great Commission to witness to the lost is ongoing until Chrisy returns. I believe also believe that everything revealed in the book of Acts is not only still relevant but also that the church in the book of Acts is the model and benchmark for the way our churches should look and act today.

I also believe that Sola Scriptura is very important, that the bible is the standard for christian living and church organization. I do not believe in some bye gone Apostolic DISPENSATION where the promise and the gifts of the Holy Spirit somehow ceased after the death of John the beloved apostle. I believe that those who do embrace such a doctrine are guilty of not only adding to scripture but also of taking away from it as well.

Amen Sam. I couldn't agree more. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit was given so that we might recieve divine empowerment for ministry. I also believe that, since the primary role of the Holy Spirit is to lead us into righteousness (Christ likeness), another aspect of indwelling Holy Spirit to both mature and sanctify the believer, something many pentecostal and charismatics have forgotten over that several decade thus we now see a lot of sin & hyper spiritualism in several "spirit filled" camps.

given the fact that pentecostalism and charismaticism are only decades old (within "christendom" that is), it makes ones wonder exactly what the real issue with maturity and sanctification is.

    ~

    divine empowerment for ministry?

if we have the indwelling Spirit, we believe and testify to the truth. with the new birth, the renewed mind, the new man is fully equipped and able to "minister".

but why do the new restoration guys believe God intended every christian be an evangelist or missionary or perform great wonders and such?

does The Lord despise the small things? are we not commanded to Love God and neighbour?

what about working with our own hands, and having enough to give to others? what about living peaceably with all men (if possible)? what about the raising of one's family according to the ways in which we have been instructed?

how about abstaining from idols, and fornication and the things we know are sinful? what about contrition and confession when we fall short and joyful gratitude knowing we are forgiven?

what about simple devotion and not being ashamed of the Gospel? prayer and thanksgiving?

what about living not by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God - daily studying and loving His words?

what about real faith, and not holding too tightly to the things of this world, knowing we are aliens and sojouners on this earth?

    ~

do i need.......does anyone need new apostles, or extra-biblical revelations, or signs of any kind to be pleasing to God and a light to others?

    i think not.

and neither has the historic church for 1900+ years. the escahton says apostasy and false prophets; not a new breed of prophets and revival.

when it is said "they speak in tongues" it means angelical language, not human. as stated by paul when he said "if i speak in human and angelical tongues but if i dont have love then..."

    1 Corinthians 12:8-10
    (8) For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
    (9) To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
    (10) To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
    1 Corinthians 12:28-30
    (28) And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
    (29) Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
    (30) Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

foundational miraculous gifts....see who the letter is to and about?
    accomplished.

today's "manifestations" are a counterfeit, exactly as foretold.

That's a bold statement from someone who doesn't know what she's talking about.

You state your erroneous belief as fact. You are wrong.

Corinthians is written TO THE CHURCH. Christians. You and me. When other topics are being discussed, you have no problem referencing other epistles and using them to document beliefs, as you should. But when it comes to manifestations, you irrationally say that Corinthians is -only- to the believers at Corinth, and -only- applied to the first century.

Today's manifestations when done according to God's Word are not counterfeit. Most people don't know anything about them, and some that know something misuse them. (reference your favorite youtube vids, zone)

I Cor 13: 1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

Either zone is wrong, or the bible is wrong.

    hmmmm..........tough call.

eh ive been to churches where the whole congregation starts speaking in tongues at once and it sounds like a bunch of random babble....so yeah i think thats highly contrived. but then this church also had a pastor that at some point would start laying hands on everyone and they would fall down. Im not joking...every single person would do this every single time. just like every single person would pseak in 'tongues' every single time. Why did i go, my best friend went there. He was the only one besides me who never did any of the weird stuff, and why did he go? a woman...

could it possibly exist in some real fashion out there? sure why not im open-minded. Is it a concern to me personally to ever speak in tongues? no.
