Do you ask God to put his armor on you everyday?

11Put on God's whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil.

deceits of the devil------to all who still live in the lie the devil can't do anything to us. It's in the bible.

12For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.

Devils----- we are in a war of devils.

13Therefore put on God's complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place].
14Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God,
15And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the [a]firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness [b]produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace.
16Lift up over all the [covering] shield of [c]saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one].
17And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit [d]wields, which is the Word of God.
18Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God's consecrated people).

in the Spirit----- that means speaking in tongues

No...becuase He wont....The scripture tells Us to put it on...not to pray for Him to.

This isnt an actual outfit He puts on...its symbolic. Its the word of God in our hearts lived by faith, that we put on. Im bothered by a feeling that im badgering you...but in fact you are attempting to streamline the bible and oversimplify reality(just like with the spirit warefare vrs not walking in the flesh). It will not work..its fluff.

If you understood what Ephesians was saying enough to teach it you wouldnt think to ask Him everymorning to put it on you....what?? did you wake up an unbeliever every morning? Praying for grace ill agree on.

Its our job to learn(His word)...it our job to stand(on His word)...its our job to walk by faith(in His word) And it our job and vital that we pray in the Spirit every kind of prayer.

Sorry....speaking in tongues is not in view here when it says pray in the Spirit.

This context here brought out to its fullest would nearly teach a saint how to live a fully proper life at least in his stance....dont teach that a morning prayer asking God to do our duty then speak in tongues takes its place...

Okee dokee. Where you going to get this magnificent armor from? Is it in your closet?
Do you keep it in a bag by your door or what? Is this how you handle all things of God you don't bother to ask God? You try to do things on your own power?

This isnt an actual outfit

Sorry it is actual outfit in the spirit. Remember God is a Spirit. And he is as real as can be. Most people don't see the armor but it is there and it is very real.

Sorry....speaking in tongues is not in view here when it says pray in the Spirit.

Explain to me what praying in the spirit means to you?

  1. Romans 8:26
    So too
the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.
Romans 8:25-27 (in Context) Romans 8 (Whole Chapter)
  2. Romans 15:30
I appeal to you [I entreat you], brethren, for
the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love [given by] the Spirit, to unite with me in earnest wrestling in prayer to God in my behalf.
Romans 15:29-31 (in Context) Romans 15 (Whole Chapter)
  3. 1 Corinthians 14:14
    For if I
pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit [by the Holy Spirit within me] prays, but my mind is unproductive [it bears no fruit and helps nobody].
1 Corinthians 14:13-15 (in Context) 1 Corinthians 14 (Whole Chapter)
  4. 1 Corinthians 14:15
Then what am I to do? I will pray with my spirit [by the Holy Spirit that is within me], but I will also pray [intelligently] with my mind and understanding; I will sing with my spirit [by the Holy Spirit that is within me], but I will sing [intelligently] with my mind and understanding also.
1 Corinthians 14:14-16 (in Context) 1 Corinthians 14 (Whole Chapter)
My friend you need to learn the word. You are way behind in teachings of God.

I do believe the war we are in everyday is very real. The Spiritual realm is just as real as you and I.. and the Bible makes that clear. As I heard a pastor once say... "Christians cry out to God for help.. but they are walking around a battlefield without any armor on and wondering why they are getting their butts kicked." =] God gave us free will. . We all have our helmet of salvation on.. But it's the rest we a lot of times forget. The belt of truth, feet with the gospel of peace, breastplate of righteousness, our shield (Faith), and our Sword (the word of God). I've even seen people with their shield and helmet.. But nothing else. I do believe this is something we as christians have to do.. God gives us the strength and ability to do it, but we have to choose to do it and stand firm.(Just like we choose to walk in the Spirit and not the flesh.) Thanks for bringing this scripture up as it is often overlooked. And it is vital to our walk in the freedom that God meant for us to walk in.

My friend you need to learn the word. You are way behind in teachings of God.

Behind?? Im not teaching people to pray that God will put on my armour. The whole instruction is to tell us its our responsibility to do that. You are teaching its no more a responsibility and just a prayer will do. Where do I put it? In my heart where else? Its from the word of God. It surely doesnt leak out daily...now your throwing in ...do i walk in my own power? that is just silly...not even part of the subject...nice try!

Your being carried away with the illustriation. Eph 6 is the same as saying put on the mind of Christ. It comes from believing the scripture..In other words the truth sets you free. Free from what? the flesh, world, and devil. What it is is walking by faith and knowledge so our life will be free from lies, and things even including our selfestimation that can damage our stance and strength in our walk. This happens internally and the war is not confrontational but passive...stand..stand..having done all to stand..stand therefore.

Yes ill agree im behind in the word 35 yrs given all the time i can and it still seems i know nothing...but i do know that rom8:26 is not speaking in tongues. Quite the opposite...it is prayer that is unspoken, unnuttered, too deep for any words and the Holyspirit makes intercession for us. Jesus modelled this and He didnt speak in tongues.

Jesus always prayed in the Spirit and He didnt speak in tongues. Spirit prayer is no more speaking in tongues than walking in the spirit is walking in tongues. Or worshipping in Spirit and in truth is worshipping in tongues.

To deal with speaking in tongues would be another thread. Also praying in the Spirit.

THE ARMOUR IS FOR THOSE WHO ARE WILLING TO CARRY THE GOSPEL.
IF YOU'RE NOT YOU DON'T NEED THE ARMOUR.

it's not some supersitious invisible suit you put on to keep from being possessed by satan because you saw a shadow pass by your car or thought about sex.

IT'S FOR CARRYING THE GOSPEL.

yes, i know "all the fiery darts of the devil"; but that's ONLY against those who face the perils and dangers in EVANGELISM.

and as usual, Paul uses figures of speech.

do you go out with the true gospel message Linda? i haven't really heard it articulated from you yet.

"The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light." Romans 13:12

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. Romans 13:14

Armor of Light, is The LORD Jesus Christ. The ARMOR of GOD is the LORD Jesus CHRIST.

Ephesians 6:
Belt of truth: Jesus is Truth.

Breastplate of righteousness: Jesus is Our Righteousness.

For your feet...the readiness given by the gospel of peace: Jesus is the Gospel, JESUS is our Peace.

The shield of faith: (Faith is Jesus...in thessalonians Paul calls faith the BREASTPLATE....except here the breastplate is righteousness...its ALL JESUS)

The helmet of salvation: Salvation is JESUS.

The sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God: The WORD OF GOD IS JESUS.

ALL of this is JESUS.

And then we PRAY. (in the spirit.)

IT IS ALLL JESUS. Its not individual peices..it is ALL JESUS. And we can Arm ourselves HOW?
Submision.

"Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you." James 4:7

Satan will flee from US, if we are covered in CHRIST JESUS. We dont have to go chasing Demons, becasue THEN our midns are off of Christ and on Evil. Our minds should be on JESUS ONLY.

We Deny(repent) of SELF, and instead OBEY(abide in) JESUS. And Abiding IN JESUS, is how we submit to GOD. This is a DAILY thing. DAILY we arem ourself, in JESUS, by OBEDEINCE to His words in the Scriptures and the words he speaks to us Now.

THAT is puttign on the armour of GOd. OBedeince and submission. -Jesus Bless you all.

Ephesians 4:20-32
But you did not learn Christ in this way, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. (put on Christ)

Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are members of one another. BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity. He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with one who has need.

Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you

By carrying, I presume you mean, preaching and teaching others about Christ...
Not that I disagree that we all should profess Christ to others, but I don't think it was merely meant for evangelism...
Eph 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
Eph 6:2 Honor thy father and mother (which is the first commandment with promise),
Eph 6:3 that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
Eph 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but nurture them in the chastening and admonition of the Lord.
Eph 6:5 Servants, be obedient unto them that according to the flesh are your masters, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
Eph 6:6 not in the way of eyeservice, as men-pleasers; but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
Eph 6:7 with good will doing service, as unto the Lord, and not unto men:
Eph 6:8 knowing that whatsoever good thing each one doeth, the same shall he receive again from the Lord, whether he be bond or free.
Eph 6:9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, and forbear threatening: knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no respect of persons with him.
Eph 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might.
Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
It does not mention anything about it must only be used for evangelism or for aid in such a manner.
In fact it might very well be very useful for every Christian to live by...however that said, I believe it to be every Christian's task to tell others about Christ.

No theres no doubt we need this armour...it keeps us from doubting we are saved...it keeps us from selfcondemnation...it keeps us from being knocked over by what people say and do...on and on the matter of the subject can fill a book. It is the truth and it protects us from outside attacts. And even though eph 6 is dealing with exterior attacts it is the same word of God that makes up the power that helps us against the flesh that wars constantly even more than outside forces.

My main point was not that the armour wanst necessary but the first line in the thread was do we pray that God will put on our armour......My answer was no!! He wont...it our job. We study...we believe...we renew our minds...we grow in grace and knowledge. Not by rebuking phantoms and praying for God to do what He has told us to do....thats my point

Curious, Abiding...how would you "put on the armour"[/q

The armor in essence is the truth of the gospel...comes from the written word. Some of the armor is put on by faith which is believing and trusting in the truth of our redemption as for instance our standing in Christ...some of the armor is also subjective dealing with our state or in other words our righteous living. In other words dont lie and steal and think you can ask God to put this armor on you...no you will get arrows till you repent..then again you will with the restored relationship put back on the breastplate for instance. another example having your loins girt with truth is again living in truth and by truth(tell the truth and do the right thing) and not in comprimise otherwise you will fall or at least wobble..again there is repentance and living true which strengthens your abiility to stand. each peice of armor is only an illustriation of our christian life...not a cool thingy to fight demons. But im going to far here.

To answer the question putting on the armor is learning the word and walking by faith with prayer. I dont take off my faith and hang it in the closet it at night. Nor do I ask God to put in on me. Faith works by Love so that is an essential part of the armor also.

Becuase satan accuses us and also lies...we need to stand on the word and not be fooled or taught to delude ourselves into a false faith. This chapter was placed right after many exhortations to live in the in the church, marriage, in the workplace...to not just think we are dealing with people but forces beyond our ability to war against. The armor is passive for the most part...id say prayer is the most active part.

It certianly is not intending to mean dont forget to pray and ask for it...its a illustration of what it is to be a strong christian with the end to be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. In fact its all internal.

Every verse which uses the expression "put on" is a command for US to obey. It is not a suggestion for your prayer time request.

Yes I agree with Abiding on that statement, it is internal and the external fruits of the Spirit is what we see in a strong Mature Christian: Love, Patience, Joy, Kindness, self control, etc.

Here is another parallel Bible passage about growth and maturity:

2 Peter 1
To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

THE GOSPEL ARMOUR

Ephesians 6
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

yes we need to be clothed in these things daily, in a sense.
the point is, with all the articles considered, and the overall imagery of battle and armour...it means more than daily living.

~

having your loins girt about with truth:

Having your loins girt about - The "girdle, or sash," was always with the ancients an important part of their dress, in war as well as in peace. They wore loose, flowing robes; and it became necessary to gird them up when they traveled, or ran, or labored. The girdle was often highly ornamented, and was the place where they carried their money, their sword, their pipe, their writing instruments, etc.; see the notes on Matthew 5:38-41. The "girdle" seems sometimes to have been a cincture of iron or steel, and designed to keep every part of the armor in its place, and to gird the soldier on every side.

The idea here may be, that as the girdle was the bracer up, or support of the body, so truth is suited to brace us up, and to gird us for constancy and firmness

John 17:17
Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

having on the breastplate of righteousness:

a consciousness of justification through the blood of the cross...

2 Corinthians 5
21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

and having on the breastplate of righteousness; in allusion to Isaiah 59:17, meaning not works of righteousness done by men, though these are a fence when rightly used against the reproaches and charges of the enemy, as they were by Samuel, 1 Samuel 12:3, but rather the graces of faith and love, 1 Thessalonians 5:8, though faith has another place in the Christian armour, afterwards mentioned; wherefore it seems best to understand this of the righteousness of Christ, which being imputed by God, and received by faith, is a guard against, and repels the accusations and charges of Satan, and is a security from all wrath and condemnation.

feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace:

That the apostle has obedience to the Gospel in general in view, there can be no doubt; but he appears to have more than this, a readiness to publish the Gospel: for, How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth Peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! Isaiah 52:7; Romans 10:15.
The Israelites were commanded to eat the passover with their feet shod, to show that they were ready for their journey. And our Lord commands his disciples to be shod with sandals, that they might be ready to go and publish the Gospel...

6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Not with shoes, but with the preparation to carry the gospel of peace, to be a messenger of good tidings (Isa 52:7).

THIS ARTICLE OF THE GOSPEL ARMOUR emphsises what Paul had in mind:

if you're not "going" anywhere (shoes/sandals) why bother with the rest?...you won't be persecuted or endure the afflictions of those who are willing to publish Good Tidings.

(this doesn't mean 'missions' only. it just means not being ashamed of the gospel and procliming it...beseeching men to be reconciled to God)

2 Corinthians 5
16 From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

2 Timothy 1:8
So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner

the shield of faith:

The Great Commission
18 AndJesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them inb the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

1 Timothy 4:17
But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion's mouth.

the helmet of salvation

2 Timothy 4:5
But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

1 Thessalonians 5:8
But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.

1 Peter 1:13
Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God

Hosea 6:5
Therefore I cut you in pieces with my prophets, I killed you with the words of my mouth; my judgments flashed like lightning upon you.

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart

1 Thessalonians 2:13
And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.

Romans 10:17
Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

John 17:17
