"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Now we hear all sorts about what this actually means from universalism to Hyper calvinism... But what does John mean by the word 'world'.

We know that God loves and we also know that whoever believes will have eternal life (1 John 5:11-12). So to get to what John is really saying.

What does JOHN mean by "The World"?

The World = the unbeliever.

Once we believe, we are not 'of the world' anymore, we are IN the World.

God loves the whole world, that is, He loves everyone, and He takes no delight in the death of the wicked. But He saves those who repent; He saves those whom He forsees as believing in Him, in His Son, Jesus Christ (John 3:16). Christ offers salvation to all people; it takes effect only in those who repent and believe the Gospel, only those who come to Jesus Christ in Faith and accept Him and His blood shed for them. "Without faith it is impossible to please God." So God's salvation takes effect for the elect who believe in Christ, the ones whom He forsees as believing in Him, He chose before the foundation of the world in His providence, His predestination. He knows who will believe in Him, and those ones He chooses for salvation. The thief on the cross who repented He saved; the other thief who did not repent didn't receive the benefit of Christ's death, while the believing thief called upon Jesus the Lord and was saved. Take care. God bless you.

The world means every man woman and Child who was ever born.

God loved them all. He died for them all. he offers eternal life to them all. And he will give it to whomever will believe in his son.

For the ernest expectation of the creature is the manifestation of the sons of God. Every man was given a measure of faith in belief. All men believe and thus, all men are saved.

Yet not all men believe in God. Thus all men could not possibly be saved.

Some reject the light of nature and conscience, see Romans 1-2

Yip, we know God loves, we know that 'whoever' believes will be saved..

But we seem to think that 'world' here means all men, women and child! is that what John means? How does the NT talk about the world...? more specifically in the context how does John see the 'world' ? does world mean all humans?

Why is it hard to believe that all men are saved? Some of you seem to even want some to perish.

People reject this message because there is no profit in it. It is truly free.

Well, I am sure we would all want it, yet, it is not what I want, it is not what I want to believe. It is what God says. No one wants anyome to perish yet they pridefully are heading headlong into judgment and then perish, it is their own doing no one elses.

The wages of sin are death!
world means the creation. Everything will be redeemed through the sacrifice of Jesus.
The whole creation (the universe/cosmos) and all the creatures and things (animals, etc.,) will be saved by the blood of Jesus.
All humans who believe in Jesus will be saved by the blood of Jesus, which cleanseth from all sin(s).
"He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; he that believeth not shall be condemned." All people would be saved by Jesus, if they believed in Jesus. But some do not believe in Jesus. Only those who believe will be saved (See John 3:16-17,18 and following).
God wants to save all (2 Peter 3:9), and will save those who believe. He gives everybody a chance (opportunity ) to believe in Christ His only-begotten Son, and so to be saved.

maybe he meant the WORLD/CREATION/ORDER OF THINGS as God really wants it to be (unfortunately unrepentent rebels will be purged...no universalism)...

Why is it hard to believe? Because it's not true.

Of course not everyone will be saved. But everything that will be saved will be saved through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, including the creation itself.

Man, sometimes you guys are too much.

It is indeed what God has said.

1 Timothy 2:3-4

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

4Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Hebrews 10:6-7

6In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

7Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

This is not only about animals Phil. We die every day in sacrifice to God and He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked.

Jesus came to do His Father's will.
