Post The Levitical Laws: Clean and Unclean Foods

Old Testament is clear: Eating forbidden animal flesh is ignoring the Scriptures!
But Mark 7:18-19 suggests that all foods are “clean.”

It’s sort of “blurry” whether the “Food Laws” are too ancient for us
or should we, the Christian, obey God’s instructions.

    P.S.
I don’t wanna give up my “porkchop” you know.

lol pork is very popular in my family hahaha. well the whole bible is important and everything God says should be taken serious even in old testament because its there for a reason. the food laws were a way for jews to be set apart for God, the people of God aren't like the people in the world but then jews had to follow the law and do all these things to become clean and to come back to God. in the new testament sense Jesus came and took our place there is no need to do the things that needed to be done because its pointless, and not only that but because Jesus did what He did, it wasnt only the jews that could be close to God the gentiles also that didnt follow His law. that explains why He says after his resurrection and speaking to Peter about the unclean food becoming clean is that there is no need to seperate what clean and unclean food is because He makes the world clean through His blood. we are like the gentiles who didnt know God but become clean by taking Jesus as our savior.

Not only Mt 7:18-19, but also Acts 10:9-15 and 1 Ti 4:1-5 speak of no foods being 'unclean'. Romans 14 does have important things to say on some implications of this, and these are especially applicable when witnessing to Muslims and people of other faiths with dietary restrictions.

I think it's pretty clear that God allows us to partake of all foods, so long as we do so with thankfullness and asking for His blessings.

A good question though is why. God does not change, so why the difference? I'll leave that to others to address, as I've not given it a lot of meditation or prayer.

Not blurry at all. New Testament is perfectly clear.

Regarding the dietary laws, in Acts 10:9-16, Peter is granted a vision in which he is told to "slaughter and eat" a variety of unclean animals. Peter refuses on grounds that the animals are unclean. He was told, "What God has made clean, you are not to call profane." Peter applies this vision to admitting Gentiles into the Church (Acts 10:19-48) but it is also true in its literal meaning: the dietary laws were no longer binding uponJewish Christians. Paul confirms this in Colossians 2:16-17: "Let no one, then, pass judgment on you in matters of food and drink or with regard to a festival or new moon or sabbath. These are shadows of things to come; the reality belongs to Christ."

The critical word here is FOOD.In Leviticus 11 God defines what can be considered to be food and what not.So all foods are clean yes ,but stick to the defenition of food.I personally dont eat unclean meats well um... i no longer eat meat.Im vegeterian slowly turning vegan like they were in the garden of eden.

Pork won't keep you from heaven, but it may get you there faster. As for people who say meat is bad, remember Jesus ate meat.

God should know what is good for His creation.Pork is the tip of the iceberg. You will notice that most unclean animals are the vacuum cleaners of the earth. Not all meat is forbidden to eat,I just want to live as healthy as possible.dont think your body belongs to you your body belongs to God and its your duty to look after it.If you eat unclean meats ,you are being disobidient to God.If your porkchop is that important to you, have fun!!

I'm not sure if it was Paul or Peter but one of them saw a vision of a sheet with unclean food on it coming down from heaven.God told him that it was ok to eat the food, which by OT law was forbidden.
I believe Paul writes that these laws were human laws.Don't quote me,I am still learning. When the disciples started teaching non-jews I think is when the clean/unclean was changed.

IT WAS PETER AND YOU CAN READ ABOUT IT IN ACTS CHAPTER 10.AND EVEN AFTER GOD HIMSELF TOLD HIM TO
EAT, 3 TIMES HE SAID THE FOLLOWING
Act 10:13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
Act 10:14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
HOW STRONG MUST YOUR CONVICTION BE TO REFUSE GOD?DID GOD FORCE HIM TO EAT?
Act 10:16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven. NO. HE WASNT.HE WASNT EVEN SURE WHAT IT MEANT HIMSELF
Act 10:17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate, THE SHEET WITH UNCLEAN ANIMALS WAS SHOWN TO HIM 3 TIMES
Act 10:19 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee. THEY WERE GENTILES AND ACCORDING TO THE JEWS UNCLEAN AND NOT TO BE MINGELED WITH.HOW ABOUT WE LET PETER TELL US WHAT IT ALL MEANT.DONT YOU THINK ITS FAIR TO LET THE BIBLE INTERPRET THE BIBLE.
Act 10:28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean. YOU SEE THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST HAD TO GO OUT TO THE WHOLE WORLD.GOD HAD TO SHOW THE JEWS THAT THEY SHOULD ALSO PREACH TO US ,THE GENTILES.

So as long as the food doesn't kill you immediately, by like eating a poisonous fish or something like that, then it's ok to eat. That's ridiculous. God didn't create EVERYTHING to be recieved with thanksgiving. Pork and shrimp and other SCAVENGER were not created for that purpose. God in his INFINITE wisdom ordained these things, so why is it that in every other arena we obey(or at least seem to) but when it comes to something as basic as the food we eat, we question God? Are we not just then looking for a reason to be disobedient? A lot these foods that God ordained as unclean are foods that most probably kill us very slowly, but kill us nonetheless. Why would the same God(who doesn't change) tell us to now eat the food he said in the beginning was unclean. Also most people don't know that even before the levitical laws, there were clean and unclean animals. Refer to Genesis 9.Man may not live by BREAD alone, but by EVERY WORD that PROCEEDS out of the MOUTH OF GOD. Shalom

I think answer to this lies in Galations. You should go read it, it's only 6 chapters!

32 "Everything I am commanding you, you are to take care to do. Do not add to it or subtract from it. (Deut.12).

1"If a prophet or someone who gets messages while dreaming arises among you and he gives you a sign or wonder, 2 and the sign or wonder comes about as he predicted when he said, 'Let's follow other gods, which you have not known; and let us serve them,' 3 you are not to listen to what that prophet or dreamer says. For ADONAI your God is testing you, in order to find out whether you really do love ADONAI your God with all your heart and being. 4 You are to follow ADONAI your God, fear him, obey his mitzvot, listen to what he says, serve him and cling to him;...." (Deut.13).

Going by the foundation that God Himself has laid for us, we can clearly see that no one can add to, nor subtract from the Commandments; even if they were to come with signs, wonders and dreams.

49 The same teaching is to apply equally to the citizen (the Jews) and to the foreigner (the Gentiles) living among you." (Ex.12)

9 Therefore, observe the words of this covenant and obey them; so that you can make everything you do prosper. (Deut.29)

14 "But I am not making this covenant and this oath only with you. 15 Rather, I am making it both with him who is standing here with us today before ADONAI our God and also with him who is not here with us today. (Deut.29) This means you, me, our children, and our children's children.

    What did the Master say?

17 "Don't think that I have come to abolish the Torah or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete. 18 Yes indeed! I tell you that until heaven and earth pass away, not so much as a yud or a stroke will pass from the Torah...." (Matt.5).

19 So whoever disobeys the least of these mitzvot and teaches others to do so will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But whoever obeys them and so teaches will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. (Matt.5).

1 Then Yeshua addressed the crowds and his talmidim: 2 "The Torah-teachers and the P'rushim," he said, "sit in the seat of Moshe. 3 So whatever they tell you, take care to do it. (Matt.23). In other words, take care to do what Moshe has commanded for you to do.

5 The earth lies defiled under its inhabitants; because they have transgressed the teachings, changed the law and broken the everlasting covenant. 6 Therefore a curse is devouring the land, and its inhabitants are punished for their guilt. (Isaiah 24). Now this whole chapter is prophecy of the coming judgement.

3 A foreigner joining ADONAI should not say, "ADONAI will separate me from his people;...." (Isaiah 56)

6 "And the foreigners who join themselves to ADONAI to serve him, to love the name of ADONAI, and to be his workers, all who keep Shabbat and do not profane it, and hold fast to my covenant, 7 I will bring them to my holy mountain and make them joyful in my house of prayer; their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all peoples." (Isaiah 56)

14 I know that whatever God does will last forever; there is nothing to add or subtract from it;...." (Ecc.3)

12 In addition, my son, take heed: one can write many books - there's no end to it; and one can study so much that it wearies the flesh. 13 Here is the final conclusion, now that you have heard everything: fear God, and keep his mitzvot (Commandments); this is what being human is all about. 14 For God will bring to judgment everything we do, including every secret, whether good or bad. (Ecc.12)

8 We know that the Torah is good, provided one uses it in the way the Torah itself intends. (1 Tim. 8)

15 "If you love me, you will keep my commands;...." (John 14)

2 "The Torah-teachers and the P'rushim," he said, "sit in the seat of Moshe. 3 So whatever they tell you, take care to do it. (Matt.23)

1 ADONAI said to Moshe and Aharon, 2 "Tell the people of Isra'el, 'These are the living creatures which you may eat.... ect (Lev.11)

4 But you are not to eat.... ect (Lev.11)

21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me, and the one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him." (John 14)

This is the command, as you people have heard from the beginning; live by it! (2 John v.6)
