Smoking Tobacco in and of its self is not a Sin.

But Addiction is.

And SO is relyign on somthing else besides GOD for Comfort.
(people do this with FOOD all the time though...funny)

So if you can smoke a cigarette, with out:

1.) Getting addicted

2.) Relying on it for comfort, or release.

3.) making anyone else Stumble into sin

Then i think it would be ok with God. But I dont see how thats possible, and

I know He Freed me From a 2 1/2 pack a day habbit, in a night, With no withdrawl or cravings after it. So.(PRASIE JESUS FOR THAT!)

Maybe that might shed some light on it?

Scripture also says our body is the temple of God and to harm it is a sin. I think that gives an answer in itself. I smoked for 24 yrs. and God told me clearly it has to go. Shalom

Dang. I should never have gotten my ears pierced. Or got that sunburn. Did I really pluck my eyebrows?

How do we determine what is harming our temple and what is not??? Who makes that determination? Man? Why do the rules always change by generation and centuries? I guess we can cut our hair now. Why are some things in the bible not allowed then but are now? This question has always bugged me! Someone answer! Like ...it really has always bugged me! I'm not kidding.

If you are in the image of what we believe to be the most powerful being in the universe, why believe that something as insignificant as a cigarette can conquer anyone?

Because I can't serve 2 masters....and having a cigarette or not matters way too much to me to be of God (it is an addiction of the flesh to me).

I would love to be able to claim God just freed me from this...but it hasn't been that simple.

Your prayers would be appreciated.

Matthew 15:10-20

10And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:

11Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
12Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?
13But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.
14Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
15Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.
16And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?
17Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
18But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
19For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

Beloved of God, all things are lawful for you. Please understand the PARABLE and harden not your heart. It is a cigarette. The smoke enters in through the lungs and whatever that cigarette is made of, the body uses it for and the rest is cast out as draught.

We as children of the Most High can only do what He does. And He does what pleases Him. We all know the consequences of smoking in the form of cancer, but all comes from God. One fate happens to all of us. The man who ate healthy all of his life can die of a heart attack at 30, while one who ate nothing but meat from the time it hit his lips can live to be 100. It is the Father who orders our steps and the only one who knows the final hour of every man.

If I pray, it will be that you may understand and that the truth will set you free. If you are a smoker and you want to stop, then let it be because you don't want to risk dying of cancer, or because it is affecting your job performance. All things may be lawful for you but not expedient or profitable. If smoking affects my job, then I need to stop smoking if I deem paying my bills and taking care of my family is more important to me.

Do you believe that God can be defiled by a cigarette? If not then look in the mirror and ask then why should I believe this as well.

Well, when Christ is ruling the earth for 1000 years, I expect to be here, but I don't expect addictive substances to be readily available.:D

Seriously....IMHO.... cigarettes can be sinful in much the same way money can be sinful..... when it means too much to you. Addiction is a slave/master relationship.
Smoking is not however...any better or worse than other addictions simply because of the publics negative views about it. Some people are addicted to coffee...or chocolate, etc. If the addiction is as bad as mine is regarding cigarettes, then they are all the same and not part of a godly life.

(I really wish the edit time could be extended from 5 to 10 minutes!)

I wanted to add to the above..... that addiction.... as I am speaking of it here.... IS a matter of the heart (I'm not referring to health) and not just of something going into the body/mouth.

Hmmmm... the posts in this thread are interesting.

Maybe an easier question that's more to the point would be if people think ADDICTION is a sin. Doesn't really matter what it is.

Very good point. I don't think smoking cigarettes is a sin. My sister smoked a pack once thinking they would help her loose weight. For her that was "what goes into the mouth"...not a sin.

But addiction...to anything that matters too much.... that's the real question here. That is a sin of the heart..not the mouth.

If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. - James 4:17

I agree with rainacorn. Addictions tend to steal from us, no matter what they are. I'm a workaholic. That's not good either...

I pray that God will deliver us from our addictions.

1. We are all sinners
2. I guess it depends if smoking is a "god" to you.
3. I think only you can honestly answer this question.

I once heard the question, "Will I go to hell if I smoke?"

The pastor answered, "Of COURSE not! But you'll smell like you've been there."

LOL!

Bottom line: Bad for your health - ultimately your choice.

Everytime you smoke, you are on purpose harming your body. Your killing yourself. You are willingly breathing in chemicals that over time will give you cancer, damage your lungs, damage your heart. and make you smell like total crap. Bottom line: You are committing suicide very slowly.

As to weather smoking makes someone a sinner, well thats kind of a silly question because weather or not we smoke were all sinners.

Do i think it is a sin. Heck yeah i do.

I don't mean to start a debate here about the harmfulness of smoking (especially since I do consider addiction a sin).. however, I live in a large metro area and I am certain that every time I get on the 8 lane interstate going to work I am "on purpose harming my body". I am killing myself by willingly breathing in every kind of foul chemical a deisel or gas vehicle can exhaust. Not only that, but over time the odds are that I will end up getting hit by some moron going 90 mph or some semi who couldn't break fast enough. And then there are all the texters......;)
