A hypocrite is one who says do not do something, while allowing that very thing in their own life. For Christians, hypocrite has a deeper meaning. Everyone who confesses Jesus Christ but does not do as He leads is a hypocrite. No one follows Him perfectly, but all who call on His name should have this as their goal.

It would do is well to remember what is recorded in scripture about hypocrites, and then think about how the world sees us. Most of them see us as hypocrites.

Why are you so concerned about the world and how they observe believers? The world will always hate the believers that make up the church because the church is not of this world (Jn 15:18,19, 1Jn 3:13). There are numerous problems in the life of the believer because the flesh lusts against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh, they are contrary (Gal 5:17). God is dealing in the mind and heart of the believer with the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and that great pride of life, which is the great stronghold that Satan takes advantage of (1Jn 2:14-16, 2Cor 2:11).

This conflict exists because we are being transformed through the word, the cross and through the grace of God. That is the work of God and He is doing it in the heart of every believer (Phil 1:6), even the ones that are rebellious and are carnally minded or those that mind the things of the flesh (Rom 8:5,6). If you're not in a good teaching ministry, that esteems the word and the grace of God, your not going to grow or mature in the faith like you should.

We should be focused on not being conformed to this world, but rather being transformed by the renewing of OUR MIND (Rom 12:1,2)! God put a difference between the Egyptians (the world) and Israel (God's called out ones - Ex 11:7). Little by little God through much mercy, grace and longsuffering is taking the world out of us and transforming us inwardly to desire Him and to do the will of God from the heart (Eph 6:6).

Here's a good definition of the world that will give you lots of food to think about.

quote - world, aion - 'All that floating mass of thought, opinions, maxims (rule of conduct), speculations, hopes, impulses, aims, aspirations, dreams, visions, philosophy, at any time current in the world, which may be impossible to seize or accurately define, but constitute a real and effective power, being a moral or immoral atmosphere which is available every moment of our lives through the spirit of the kosmos or world of men who are living alienated and apart from God in a depraved state.'- unquote These are not the same today as they were (50) years ago, just look at our youth and what they are exposed to in this world system and the access they have to things that only existed as a concept and imagination in the heart of depraved men in some previous dark doldrums of life.

I wouldn't be to concerned what the world thinks of the church or any of the believers that make up the church, seeing that it is the world that has been designed by the devil, the prince and power of the air, to seek out and devour those that would give him place and succumb through conformity to this floating mass of iniquity, lust and pride. The world will never have a good assessment of the church of blood bought redeemed sinners and God will never allow them to be at peace with each other, no matter what kind of hypocrisy you think exists in God's church and body. That is what the sword is all about, God's word that severs us from the world system.

I try not to care so much about how the world sees me as how God sees me and rest in the peace that He calls me His child who He will punish and reward as He sees fit for the glory of His name.

Matthew 6
16 “Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.[d

Very true and I do agree. However, I think we all miss the mark at times.

Did not say that we don't. But if we are in Christ, fixed upon Him, even if we miss the mark, He will work it for good. I call it growing in grace, as we see the truth about ourselves in Him, even as we miss the mark.

No, the hypocrite is the one who professes and does not abide in Christ. For even if I do miss the mark, if I abide in Christ Jesus, then I will grow in Him even from missing the mark.

If the world sees me, then I am not reflecting the glory of Jesus, and I have failed Him to some extent. My point is that much of christianity does not reflect Jesus in the world at all. Hypocritical at best. If we have taken His name, Christian, then we should reflect the name of the One we are after. Oddly enough, all of the false religions of the world do better at this than we do. And we will answer for how we have reflected the grace we have received. Remember the parable of the talent.

So you're here to point fingers at other Christians and talk about how we're all failing... and you uplift followers of false religions as somehow having more conviction than we do.

Did I sum that up correctly?

In Christ,
I am on your ignore list but I have from a very good source that you still read my posts, so here goes. Why do you think God chooses the kind of sinners that He does in (1Cor 1:26-31)...

26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised , hath God chosen , yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are : 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence . 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written , He that glorieth , let him glory in the Lord.

God chooses these because God loves Himself perfectly and knows that there is no darkness in Himself, that His own righteousness and justice is perfect and that He can do nothing that would violate His own holiness, his own integrity or his own nature and He wants to impart all that He is to those that He has chosen and set apart by grace. This is how God brings glory to Himself. God can take the most wicked and vile sinner and glorify Himself through that sinner by grace and by imputing to him His very nature through the person of His Son. When God is doing all that you have some professing believers who have no idea what it means to walk by faith and they bring shame and condemnation upon the grace and power of God that has redeemed the church as His precious possession. They don't see what God is doing because they are too busy judging and criticizing the church and evaluating it through their own standard of righteousness. I don't think they have received or grown in an ounce of grace since they have been saved.

You are so right on sister. Keep it up. You have grace in your heart and that's why you have good discernment from God. Keep hiding God's word in your heart and continue to grow in grace and knowledge of Christ.

This is a fair assessment rainacorn. And there's a few others here that do much the same. Interestingly enough, there is a common thread woven through them. Servants and prophets of God it seems. Enlightened ones whose calling it is to warn us unregenerate prideful souls.

NO!

You have gotten my intent all wrong.

But if it offends you, there is probably a reason.

I'm not offended.

If people have misunderstood you, perhaps you should clarify yet again instead of making passive aggressive accusations.

First you state that rainacorn has misunderstood. And you follow that up with your pride-filled, self-righteous statement (highlighted). Yes VW ......many of today's "christians" are indeed viewed as hypocrites.

Well, it does not matter what the world thinks, unless they are right. And unless our hypocrisy actually leaves the sinner in his sin.

This happens more than we would like to believe.

But if the Father views us as hypocrites, then we are in trouble.

You seem to miss that I associate myself with the church, and bear the burden of her faults.

So be careful of pointing fingers.

If something is wrong and we do not know about it, then how can we repent? But if we are told that something is wrong and we do not repent, then it is on our heads, and it is our fault.

If the world does not see Jesus in us, and yet we claim to be followers of Him then our testimony is a lie. That should concern all of christianity. That is does not just shows how far away from Him we are.

How about an amen to that?

Na, never mind, I am a false prophet. There is no way that I could speak the truth.

really.

Jesus did that on The Cross.
and that's Christ's Job now (He will present her without spot and wrinkle because He is her High Priest).
but what do i know....maybe He needs your help.

what do you mean "associate" yourself with the church?
if you're not one of us, like us in every respect, what are you?

apparently sometimes you do.

the world may "see" a changed life in their christian neighbour: but what END is there in that?

that they seek out that one to HEAR THE GOSPEL >> that one tells them what their HOPE is...who Jesus is.

but SOME people who consider themselves christians are still thinking carnally: dominionism >> the church has some GIANT mandate to change the world.
Redster already corrected your error. it's one sinner at a time brought to repentence and the forgiveness of sins in Jesus Name.

the world isn't "right" about anything. but if you let the Holy Spirit do His Job you'd see HIM working.

many lost men lead good and upstanding lives in the community - they're still lost: do you think THAT'S what matters?

if you care what the world laughs at, take a look at the charismatic charlatans that give the church a black eye.
