They were not greedy only, but they broke their promise to God. We should be aware then that the old testament laws still have validity in some respects. We should treat God with great reverence and not make light oaths:
Lev 27:9-10 ...all that any man giveth of such unto the LORD shall be holy. He shall not alter it, nor change it, a good for a bad, or a bad for a good
Numbers 30:2 If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.

They lied against God and broke what they have comitted giving...in the sight of God. God doesn't always judge the believer's sin by death. But God judges us and brings justice. Without justice and punishment where is the love? Parent punish and displine to get us to reliaze we did wrong so we can get back on track. Conviction too. But in this sense, that was by God's will.

I believe they lied to the Holy Spirit. I believe that greed is not the only sin they commited. The men they lied to were in the Holy Spirit and they were lieing, not to the men, but to the Holy Spirit of God. These men penned the Scripture by the unction of the Holy Spirit and were walking in the Spirit and living in the Spirit. People were being healed by the power of God and many miracles through the Holy Spirit. In fact the man of God was speaking in the Spirit when He said "you have not lied to me, you have lied to the Holy Spirit". Ananias ans Saphira died because they were wolves in the Church and God decided to kill them himself.
