plain and simple question, are The Ten Commandments done away with. Due to so much controversy and up and down, I thought this poll would help. Plus if you're willing, show why with scripture your answer. Shalom

"Having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him. Therefore let no one act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day- things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ." (Col 2:14-16)

Nope, all the Law is still the rule. It is holy just and good. Some types acted out in the temple have been fulfilled in Christ.
In other words none of the Law has been done away with. It may have been altered, meaning the way we see it, and
the way we establish it or obey it.

No, God's covenant is an eternal covenant. As I am not a Jew and thus not part of the Mosaic covenant, however, I am not under the Law. Certainly the 10 Commandments embody truths that I abide by because they still express God's moral precepts, but I am not bound to them as a covenant between God and myself.

Not so much, I think, because your question is somewhat confusing. If you are asking if Scripture did away with the Ten Commandments, the answer is a resounding NO. If you are asking whether mankind has done away with the Ten Commandments, the answer is not so clear. It sure seems like we are trying our best to do just that.

Galations 3:16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as referring to many, but rather to one, “And to your seed,” that is, Christ.

Galations 3:11-13 Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, “THE RIGHTEOUS MAN SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.” 12 However, the Law is not of faith; on the contrary, “HE WHO PRACTICES THEM SHALL LIVE [u]BY THEM.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us

Galations 3:19 Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made.

Verse 23 til the end of the Chapter.. But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. 24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a [ai]tutor. 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise.

Also, if you read Romans 7 you will see where the law is mentioned as well.

The Law is in reference to the Law of Moses. The Ten Commandments is part of the Law of Moses.

In Romans 7 beginning with vers 6 it looks as if Christians are not obligated to keep the 10 commandments. 6 But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter.
7 What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, “YOU SHALL NOT COVET.”

The Ten Comandments were part of God's Law given to Jews in the time of Moses. Christians are not subject to the Law of Moses.

The end.

What do you mean "done away with" i cant say yes or no untill i know that actuall question.

If you mean we no longer have to folow the ten commandments, then no..we STILL have to.

What was done away with however was the STRIVING in the flesh to get that accomplished.

ONE who IS born again fullfills the 10Commandments in the SPIRIT inside Jesus. If we obey the WORDs of JESUS(living torrah) Then we WIL obey the law and prophets. it hangs on Loving GOD with all we are, and our neighbor as our self. If we ACTUALLY do this(only possible by walkign in the Holy spirit of GOd) then we obey the ten commandments.

Infact,
We wil do MORE then those ten commandments. We wont lust if we are obeying Jesus(adultery)
We won't put anythign before worship and obeyign and following JESUS(even family) (idolatry/gods before me)
We Wont covet(lust of things, and people, desire to have ...etc)
etc...

If we are walking in the spirit we wont gratify the flesh in ANYWAY shape or form, so we CANT even NOT obey GODS commandments given to Moses if we are walking in the SPIRIT.(Jesus) (can we walk in the spirit 24/7 ...dunno...the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak...but that doesnt mean e shouldnt strive to)

HOWEVER

If you are NOT walking in the spirit, and you are living a dissobedint life, Then you ARE breakign Gods law of the SPIRIT you are NOT obeying JESUS, which then puts you BACK under the LAW, and since your a christian your not following ALL of the law, then you are guilty of breaking ALL of the law.

So its one or the other. NOW there are MANY christians who beelive they are "in the spirit" and they arent...they are in religion, adn arent obying anythig but commandments of men(whcih they cant even obey THOSE correctly)

So, Then, Are the 10 comandments done away with? NO!

Are we supposed to obey them in theflesh...NO!! thats works.

We are suposed to REST from our works and in faith trust JESUS to be made in us, and lead us in HIS works through HIS spirit.

and then we will be sanctified, and made like CHRIST, who is the only one to fullfill the law. so WE fullfill the LAW IN HIM.

Or at least thats what i have learned. Jesus bless you Avinu

The Ten Comandments were part of God's Law given to Jews in the time of Moses. Christians are not subject to the Law of Moses.
Elizabeth 1) they were given to Israel, not the jews, the jews are the tribe of Judah. 2)the commandments are for Israel, which we all are. It has nothing to do with Moses. Do you believe that we don't have to obey the Ten Commandments?

Wow, 40 people have looked at this poll/thread and only 6 have answered. It speaks volumes.

The question is formed in a way that I cannot answer it. Jesus said all the commandments hinge on the first two. That we are to love our God with all our strength, all our heart, mind and soul....,

and to love our neighbor as our self.

Even though these two are fully encompassing according to law, Jesus desired that we not love God or our neighbors only because law said to. It is something that needs to be inscribed on the heart; to do these things because we love Him and we love our neighbor. If someone says, " I only love my neighbor because Law said I must" That is not the fulfillment of the the law. When a person thinks this way, he or she remains under the law. It becomes self condemning if we treat law as if it does not belong.

Read, Ephesians 2, Galatians 3:26-29, Romans 11. They all talk about we are Israel and the seed of Abraham.

Zone it doesn't say heirs according to the promise by faith, it says heirs according to The Promise. period. you can't add words to it. It is talking about the Promise to Abraham that is given to us and you know.

Ephesians two says Jew and Gentile are now one in Christ (we make one body of Christ), not that Gentiles become Israel. Galatians 3 says there is now (in Christ) neither Jew or Gentile- not that Gentiles become Israel. Romans 11 says that Gentile followers of Christ are grafted into the olive tree that is Israel and the patriarchs, not that we become Israel.
You are missing the point of these passages, which is that the two groups together form one body of Christ, not that they lose their identity or that Gentiles become Israel.

Matthew 2:15
where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son."

Hosea 11:1
When Israel was a youth I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son.

Jesus is ISRAEL. 2000 Years ago, Gentiles were grafted into HIM. To be come ONE.

We are chosen in christ. Chosen peopel of Israel.
