Rev 17:5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

I used to think that this referred to the Catholic church. It seemed like a good fit. But now I'm wondering if it is referring to the whole world, as a system. I just finished reading Jeremiah and it is making me think Babylon is a much stronger foe. Babylon was able to remove Gods chosen people from the land.

Jeremiah 51:53-58


53Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the LORD.
54A sound of a cry cometh from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans:
55Because the LORD hath spoiled Babylon, and destroyed out of her the great voice; when her waves do roar like great waters, a noise of their voice is uttered:
56Because the spoiler is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, every one of their bows is broken: for the LORD God of recompences shall surely requite.
57And I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts. 58Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labour in vain, and the folk in the fire, and they shall be weary.


I think Babylon is the world and the enticement of riches and fame that the world can give. What do you think??

Alot of people are starting to think this. I still have not bought into it.

The thing that forms my opinion is what Babylon was. It was a city, but it was also a religion. It was started at the tower of babel. And it had certain characteristics. When Babylon was overthrown. The priests took the religion with them and ran to other parts of the world. The OT prophets preached against it as Israel was always caught dabbling in it. And when Israel did. they were said to be "playing the harlot" the harlot being the Babylon religious system.

In its later forms, it became what we now know as the greek mythology, and then roman mythology. It is still with us today. Although it calls itself something else.

The big thing is the Jews were always in trouble because they were playing the harlot. The harlot is Babylon. and if we find this "harlot" I believe we will find Babylon.

I'm in Ezekiel now and just read Ezekiel 23 the parable of the sisters.



28For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will deliver thee into the hand of them whom thou hatest, into the hand of them from whom thy mind is alienated:
29And they shall deal with thee hatefully, and shall take away all thy labour, and shall leave thee naked and bare: and the nakedness of thy whoredoms shall be discovered, both thy lewdness and thy whoredoms. 30I will do these things unto thee, because thou hast gone a whoring after the heathen, and because thou art polluted with their idols.

Really all of Ezekiel 23 but those verses seemed to be the gist of it. I'm still leaning toward Babylon being the world. I don't always know how the OT and the NT tie together, though. My view is that the OT is types and shadows of what the NT brings.

Just remember that Babylon (Papacy) is not alone she has children.

Their bodies will lie in the street of the great city, which is figuratively called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.

Scripture makes it clear. They were dabbling in this stuff LONG before they were taken to babylon. In fact it was because of them "playing the harlot" that got them their in the first place!

Babylon is the religious system that was formed in Babylon. and is still on earth today.

The daughters and sons of the mother are the ones who are playing the harlot with her. The jews, if as you say wrote the talmud is from her" are a daughter. Not the mother.

The mother is the one who :GIVES BIRTH" not the one who is born out of.

I'm not disputing that the Babylonian system of modern jews is a daughter of babylon. Thats obvious....its called the BABYLONIAN TALMUD. Their apostate system was refined and perfected there.

That doesnt stop pharisaic apostate judaism and the city of Jerusalem from being the Mother of Harlots.

Are you saying that the Chaldeans are the Mother of Harlots?

The problem with this thinking is that it states the origional "mother" is dead, and is no longer alive. That is not true. Judaism might be a daughter. but the thing she got her harlotry from (the mother) is still alive and kicking!

No not the chaldeans. where do you get this?? where do you think the chaldeans got their harlotry from? they are just another daughter.

A HARLOT or WHORE is one who cheats ON GOD! You have to be a bride who cheats to be a harlot. Duh! Gods chosen people.

Nice try. The people who made up this religion where gods people also. The traded him for their false theology. alot of which resembled truth, but was a lie with bits of truth mixed in. And it was here LONG before Israel was formed. And is still here today. sorry you can't admit that!

He was finished with earthly Jerusalem in 70AD.
Jerusalem which is above is our mother.
