Hebrews 9:16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.

Hebrews 9:17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all WHILE the testator LIVES

Why do so many give personal testamonies? It may be interesting and encouraging to others but according to Hebrews it means nothing until you are dead.

Does your church strongly encourage and urge you to stand up and do this? Do the words of Hebrews mean anything?

Somethng to think about....

a personal testimony has power behind it... the way the Spirit works in each person's life is going to be different for everyone, but touches each person profoundly enough to let him/her know that Jesus Christ exists, and loves them.

there are no two exactly identical testimonies... sure there are similarities, but none are exactly the same... it's one of the proofs that Jesus Christ is indeed real, and not some mass hallucination
I totally agree. It gives even more credibility to Jesus Christ, because he conquered sin till death...He past the test. We can boast about him now.

But ourselves.....different story. I know the reasons why people do it, but it is not a true testamony whilst they are still alive... We dont know if they are going to fall later, or not endure to the end...and what if they do fall? It does happen you know.

What about the words in Hebrews. Does it mean anything to you? Do we go around the Word of the Lord and say yes, but, but, we do it because....
Are we more knowledgable than what comes out of Gods mouth? Is he wrong?

This is just a discussion Zilla not having a go at anybody. Would like to know why it's such a big thing. Thank you for your answer.
God bless.

You better be Dead. Otherwise you dont belong to God. Those who overcome, overcome with the WORD of there testimony. We must Die. Daily. Otherwise we have no testimony, and have No Jesus.

Romans 6:11
Even so reckon ye also yourselves to be dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:10
And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Colossians 2:20
Why if you be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are you subject to ordinances,

The Testimony is what GOD cleaned you of, and the Drastic difference betweenthe OLD DEAD man, and the NEW living one.

NO covenant(with Jesus) if you dont Die.

Hebrews 9

11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come,[a] with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. 12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

16 For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. 17 For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives. 18 Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood. 19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20 saying, “This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you.” 21 Then likewise he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry. 22 And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.

23 Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; 25 not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another— 26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. 27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

that whole chapter has to do with Jesus making the 2nd covenant and dying as a perfect sacrifice for our sins on the cross. this happens only ONCE by Jesus death on the cross. the chapter does not refer to our testimony but JESUS' there are other passages in the Bible about our testimony. in the above passage it talks about dying to complete the sacrifice.

In these passages it talks about LIVING as acceptable sacrifices to God.

Romans 12:1-3
New King James Version (NKJV)
Romans 12

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith
.

this should always be our testimony:

1 John 5:10-12
New King James Version (NKJV)
10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

It should always be about JESUS and what HE has done. to say that He is not Dead but alive and able to help those even today while it is still today.
I can see where you are coming from and interesting. However, when we are physically dead, our salvation or damnation is now determined. Case closed. Everything we have everdone goes to the grave with us. We cant turn anything back, so it cannot change from here.

If we passed the test, we have a testimony worth giving because we died with that Word in us and we endured to the end. The testimony now is in effect. All the saints will have this true testimony.
This does not justify the plain words and instructions written in Hebrews. The statement is not a mystery, but clear and straight forward. The verses in Hebrews give Christ as an example. He really died and rose. The same will happen to us if we endure to the end.

Romans 14:4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth........

The witness of men hearing our testimony does not make it valid. Only God can see into the heart and there is a day put aside for the resurrection of the saints when they are judged worthy to be accepted into the kingdom and you know that this is when Christ returns.

So why judge ourselves worthy now? It's not our job to do the judging.....but we have hope that we will be accepted if we stay close and feed on the lamb of God. Then our testimony wil have effect because Christ ordained us and judged us worthy, not men.

To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

that whole chapter has to do with Jesus making the 2nd covenant and dying as a perfect sacrifice for our sins on the cross. this happens only ONCE by Jesus death on the cross. the chapter does not refer to our testimony but JESUS' there are other passages in the Bible about our testimony. in the above passage it talks about dying to complete the sacrifice.

this should always be our testimony:

1 John 5:10-12
New King James Version (NKJV)
10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

It should always be about JESUS and what HE has done. to say that He is not Dead but alive and able to help those even today while it is still today.

quote=AnandaHya;520609]Hebrews 9

Yes I agree with everything you have quoted and said. It does refer to the new covenant coming into effect after Christs death.

I absolutely agree, it is the testament of Christ and truth we should be testifying of...and we do this in good faith, because we want to show the world how much he has changed our life and renewed our spirit. It's only natural that we want to share..

but I suppose what I am getting at, our own personal testament is not valid until we die. Until we endure to the end.

For instance, some may stand up there and say, since I came to the Lord, the Lord has blessed me with a good job, and a nice car and family, and we have want for nothing, and I now own so many shares, and have my own private jet, and the Lord will do this for you too if only you will give a little more ....

Do these ones have a true testimony? They are preaching themselves. The focus shouldn't be about us, but strictly about Christ and the truth.

We give testimonies all the time. Sometimes it can just be our actions without words, to show what spirit is truly in us.

Only Christ can decide who will be saved. I have a problem with people making that decision about themselves...but I am not against hope, and striving for that acceptance in the resurrection and feeling confident in the Lord and his word. Dont get me wrong.

Your welcome! I love biblegateway... God bless you!
I spent ages going through the first few ones and replying and quoting other scripture then time ran out and I lost everything I posted! I'm feeling a little frustrated and maybe my answer wasnt meant to be! But I have to get off this computer for now to clear my head a little and I will sit down quietly and read those verses away from this horrible ancient slow computer I have that doesn't even let me reply in a different colour if I want to and takes ages to load every post!
God bless you too.

I read the scriptures last night, :) and what you and others have spoken to is basicly what was shown.
But it seems two fold, that the testamony of the death of Jesus, them His reserection validates the testamony.
Also that our testamony can only be validated by ones death, showing faith untill the end.
Life eternal in Jesus!

A good post as I learned something in Jesus, thankyou.

God bless.

]Do these ones have a true testimony?
no they do not for they lie and preach prosperity gospel and are double hearted friends of the world and enemies of God. For PAUL taught that if you are to boast you boasts of your infirmities and God's graces and Love and how GOD has kept you despite the torture the world may inflict upon you. If you boast of your carnal things then you do not glorify Christ but give worship and honor to Ba'al. For to desire the treasures of earth is to forsake worship of God in Heaven. it is to incite envy and covetousness in the hearers and lead them into temptation and sin.

I enjoyed reading all those verses. I guess it just clarifies that we are all holding the testimony of Christ and that he is truly the only begotton son of the Father and has the power to forgive sins and grant us salvation. This is the truth that we bear witness of and even though there are many who think we're crackers for having this hope in us, our testimonies will be deemed true in the sight of men when Christ returns and all is revealed. Thank you.
