What is mockery? What does God think about mockery, and about those who know only how to mock those things which they do not understand or believe? What biblical examples of mockery do we have, and the results to the mockers?
Whenever one makes light of, ridicules, exaggerates in order to discredit, twists and misuses the words and thoughts of another, then they are mocking. They are taking the serious and heartfelt words and thoughts of another and making them useless and worthless in their eyes.
Why do people mock? Because this is the only way that they can turn aside the truth. In their minds, they are not willing to accept what is being expressed, and having no sound argument, they turn to the deceitful practice of mockery. It is a way of making something that they do not want to consider to seem funny and worthless and ridiculous.
All mockery is a lie. Even if the one being mocked is wrong, mockery of this one is still a lie, and a sin. Mockery comes from a heart that has hardened itself against others, for the heart that loves as God loves cannot mock another.
We don't have to look very hard to know what God thinks of mockers. Just one example is enough. Elisha came from the Jordan river, and many youngsters mocked him, and ridiculed him, calling him names. God sent a bear who tore those mockers into pieces.
Paul wrote that in the last days mockers would come. One of the things they will mock is the soon return of the Lord Jesus Christ to the world to reign and rule for a thousand years, taking His rightful place on the throne of the world. They will say, "Where is the promise of His return? Things continue as they always have."
We are entering the days of darkness, the days which will try the souls of all people. There will be so much deception and falsehood, even more than today. Much more. One lesson we will learn, or we will fall. It is this: truth is not a book, nor is it words, truth is a person, and His name is Jesus Christ. He is represented here in this earth by His Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit. Either we learn to hear the truth from Him, or we will fall into deception and falsehood.
