Churches did not get divided because of what is in the Bible, but over things that are not authorized (or even mentioned) in the Bible. God is perfect, and His will doesn't need man-made enhancements. Here are some examples.

No scripture
Not Scriptual
Belief that the "Sinner's Prayer" saves
Benevolent, educational, & missionary societies
Church buses used for entertainment
Church cafeterias (fellowship halls)
Church choirs
Church gymnasiums and Life Centers
Instrumental music (No N.T. scriptures)
Youth ministries and directors

(Keep in mind this may or may not reflect my views. I am just creating the thread. You all have every right to agree or oppose.)

C. H. Spurgeon Audio Sermons

Eyes Right  --  C. H. Spurgeon

“Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.”——Proverbs 4:25.

Now if the saints of old time gloried in obeying Christ, I pray that you and I, forgetting the sect to which we may belong, or even the nation of which we form a part, may feel that our first object in life is to obey our Lord and not to follow a human leader, or to promote a religious or political party. This one thing we mean to do, and so follow the advice of Solomon as he says, “Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.” Beloved, let us endeavor to be obedient in the minute as well as in the greater matters, for it is in details that true obedience is best seen. Let us copy the faintest touches in the life of our great Exemplar.

That being attended to, remember, if Christ be your way you have further to seek to be like him, not only to do as he did, but to be as he was; for “as he was, so are we in this world.” What a man does is important, but what a man is, is all-important. The ring of the metal is something, but if its ring could be imitated by a base coin it would be nothing. It is after all the substance of the metal that decides its value. O man, what art thou? If thou be a twice-born man thou art a partaker of the nature of Christ; but if not thou art under the curse which cleaves to the old nature as leprosy cleaves to the leper. “As we have borne the image of the earthy we shall also bear the image of the heavenly”; and we must begin to bear that heavenly image even now. As born again into the headship of the Second Adam, we should seek to be as much like the Second Adam as we are already by nature like the first Adam through our first birth. The second birth should be as operative to produce the image of the second Adam, as the first was to produce the image of the first Adam. Alas! “the earthy” is impressed upon us very distinctly; we cannot spend an hour without discovering the clear stamp of nature’s die. Oh that “the heavenly” could be quite as clearly discerned! This therefore we must aim at, though as yet we have not attained it. Here is something to be thought of very carefully, and I charge you by the Holy Ghost, let your eyes look right on and your eyelids straight before you, that you may be transformed from glory to glory into the image of the Lord. God grant that it may be so with every one of us!”- Spurgeon

I think alot of churches are devided no so much by doctrine, by how they do things. For an example you might see a baptist church very traditional. where they start off every service with a reading. then a song, then prayer and announcements, another song, Teaching, then another song and alter call. then dismissal. Then you might see another church which does not follow tradition or a set service. where you know what will happen each minute. yet they both teach pretty much the same doctrines.

then there are churches separated by doctrinal differences. Which might also have the same set routine. I have been to a Lutheran service and a catholic one, and to be honest, it is hard to tell the difference. yet doctrinally they are separated by alot.

the important thing is the gospel being taught. There might be hiundreds of different churches. but there are only three gospels taught by all of them

1. Legalistic works based.
2. Faith in the work of Christ and true repentance.
3. Licentious, (no faith in Christ, free grace, just say sinners prayer and poof your in)

only one of these are the true church, even if many different types (denominations) of churches teach it

I agree that the sinners prayer itself doesn't save you. But you're gonna have to confess Jesus and your sins somehow, and if it's said in sincerity, then the sinners prayer seems effective.

I don't see how benevolent, educational and missionary societies aren't in the Bible. We're to help the poor, make disciples and spread his word. All things which said societies do rather effectively.

How are church buses used for entertainment? Do they drag race them on weekdays? Buses get people to church so they can hear a preacher speak on the bible and fellowship...

What's unbiblical with fellowship and cafeteria halls? Christians gotta fellowship and eat. They met and ate in the NT. A fellowship hall with a cafeteria seems like an efficient way to mirror the nt example.

Church choirs..Instrumental music...Well since we all know God got sick of musical instruments and well organized worship once the first letters of Matthew were penned, I can't disagree with you here...(Just having fun here with my COC sister)

and i'd address the other two..but this is normally more than I type.

Belief that the "Sinner's Prayer" saves
Depends. If someone is saying it but really does not believe it or has not really repented. and really has no desire to change their life (because of lack of repentnace) it is just words. (licentiousness)'
But if people have truely repented. And are using this to "call out on the name of the Lord" then they would be saved.

Church buses used for entertainment

Is it used to promote God and his kingdom? If not then I would agree.

Church cafeterias (fellowship halls)

lol. They met in homes in the NT. I think they all had kitchens then. It even says they ate together while fellow shipping. I think many churches have these and do not use them enough.
Church choirs

see nothing wrong with it. Sing praises to the Lord. David was a master of this.

Church gymnasiums and Life Centers
Outreach to kids. Think it is a must. again, not enough churches do this

Instrumental music (No N.T. scriptures)
We have a band at our church (I play one of these instruments) People are blessed by our music. Even been told our music has affected people outside of church when the come upon a circumstance in life and our music helped them get through it.

Youth ministries and directors

Need to have something for the kids. Give them hope. Cant talk to a kid as an adult.

Church creeds (Matthew 15:9)

As long as they are scriptural and not held above scripture. do not see a problem.

Faith in the preacher rather than the scriptures (2 Timothy 4:3,4)

lol. many will be led astray by this major church problem

Once saved, always saved (also known as perseverance of the saints) (James 5:19-20)

Eternal life is eternal. or God lied.

God says he would never leave us nor forsake us. If he leaves us, or forsakes us for any reason. He lied.

Unconditional election (also commonly called predestination)
(1 Timothy 2:4)

God calls for all to come to him. He is willing that none should parish but all would have eternal life. It is also unconditional, unless we return to the law.

Women preachers (1 Timothy 2:12)

Undecided. I know many women who could give the word and win many to Christ.

Only Scriptures in Opposition
Church creeds (Matthew 15:9)
Matthew 15:9
New King James Version (NKJV)
9 And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”[a]

Faith in the preacher rather than the scriptures (2 Timothy 4:3,4)
2 Timothy 4:3-4
New King James Version (NKJV)
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

Once saved, always saved (also known as perseverance of the saints) (James 5:19-20) James 5:19-20
New King James Version (NKJV)
19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul[a] from death and cover a multitude of sins.

Unconditional election (also commonly called predestination)
(1 Timothy 2:4)
1 Timothy 2:4
New King James Version (NKJV)
4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Women preachers (1 Timothy 2:12)
1 Timothy 2:12
New King James Version (NKJV)
12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.
Church creeds should be based on Scripture and God's laws...

An annointed raised up Teacher or pastor filled with the Holy Spirit should have sound doctrines, humble heart, be a man of prayer and does not fulfill his carnal lusts but is mature in Christ in that he strives to have every THOUGHT in obedience to the knowledge of God and if you do not THINK upon evil then you will not Act upon temptation.

OSAS is different from preservance of the saints. One (preservance of the saints) is the work of God through His grace, the other is a false security blanket people want to use to cover up their sins instead of true repentance and turning from to GOD and learning full obedience to the will of God. to perserve is to grow in the Lord and obey His commandments through the guidance and protection of the Holy Spirit as Teacher, intercessor and Comforter.

God wants the whole world back into the right order and obedience to His will and in the end He will destroy anyone or thing that does not submit in obedience and love.

women preachers? the law was added for transgression as a tutor to lead people to Christ, until the promise has come (in now a days terms this is speaking of the Holy Spirit for those who seek the Kingdom of Heaven and the will of God)....In the beginning it was not so and in the end it will not be so for we will all be children of God in perfect obedience and love.

Genesis 1:27
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Galatians 3:19-23
New King James Version (NKJV)
19 What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator. 20 Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is one.
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. 22 But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. 23 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed.

Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Matthew 23:8
But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren.

John 17

24 “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. 26 And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”

we are all to be children of God and women are entrusted with the raising of children and the exhorting of both women and children.

In maturity none has authority over another but all submit to the leadership of Christ and call one another brethren.

Why are churches divided? because people have different methods of raising the youth and the new seedlings.

some of it is like the long versus short hair debate, somethings we are to Judge among ourselves:

1 Corinthians 11
13 Judge among yourselves. Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14 Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him? 15 But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given to her[a] for a covering. 16 But if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God.
