I came across this verse and am struggleing with what it means. I'm taking it literally when Jesus says "some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God"
Does this have anything to do with the second coming?

Notice the transfiguration comes next...even in the other gospels, the transfiguration is closely linked to this statement...
I will ponder some more, though

God bless

No, Jesus also tells us in a place that the Kingdom of God is inside us. We are members of the Kingdom as soon as we get saved. We are foreigners here on this earth are natural home is in Heaven with God. What Jesus was referring to was His ascension into Heaven, and the descension of the Holy Spirit.

Some people believe it's talking about the transfiguration, but that's not a very sound argument. Some people believe He's referring to the Ascension, which was witnessed by some 500 people (and there were presumably some of those 500 in the Luke 9:27 crowd). I think I've even heard it applied to Pentecost. In any case, it certainly does seem like Jesus is referring to His return in this passage. The people standing there when He said it certainly thought Jesus was talking about the establishment of His kingdom on earth. Anyone claiming deeper insight into what Jesus was saying here is just speculating, so any other meaning we try to draw from this must be considered with humility, knowing that you might be wrong.

Other verses in the gospels, as well as some in the rest of the new testament, indicate that Jesus' followers thought He was going to return with their lifetimes. That is indisputable, and obvious when reading the texts. However, in letters (from Paul and others) that are later, chronologically, they seem to realize that they might be waiting for a long time, and we are told, in Thessalonians for example, to keep working at our jobs and not to become idle.

That verse could also be translated "the kingdom of God is AMONG you" rather than "within you": when translated that way, it seems like Jesus is simply referring to himself, or referring to Himself and the group. And I'm not sure about the word for "you" that is used there, but I would bet that it is a plural form of "you" (something we don't have in English), like saying "you all", which would mean that he's not saying it's within or among each individual person, but rather in the midst of everyone there.

Yeah it's the transfiguration. Moses represents the Law, and elijah represents the Prophets. the law and the prophets.

is the kingdom of God heaven?
Or righteousness ,peace, and joy in the holy spirit?
if its the latter then He is Not speaking of the transfiguration but rather the ascention or the penticost, because the righteousness, peace or joy in the holy spirit didnt come till the death burrial and resurection of the messiah

I sometimes think it's the transfiguration because the verse 28 leads in with "and it came to pass"..

Luk 9:27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.
Luk 9:28 And it came to pass about eight days after these sayings

It's confusing because Matthew puts Mat 16:28 as the last verse in chapter 16, linking it with the previous verses which talk of the end times. And the transfiguration is a whole new chapter.

But the other gospel accounts put the transfiguration in the same paragraph.

But most bible commentaries I've read on this link it in with the resurrection, the coming of the Spirit, and the destruction of Jerusalem, showing Christ's coming in power to destroy etc. Maybe it isn't about the transfiguration after all.

One things for certain, most agree it isn't speaking of the last days return of Christ, but something else.

IM of the opinion that there are some people who were with Christ , that are still alive inthis day and time.
I believe that John the Beloved is still alive.
