How is it possilbe that Mary and Joseph traveled many mile from Isreal on a mule while Mary was pregnant, without any provisions or travel mates. I question the authenticity of this story. I have done historical research, and because of bandits, people traveled in caravans with many provisions to keep them safe at night as they slept. I do not believe Mary and Joseph were not wise enough to have traveled to Bethlehem without a caravan and many provisions to sleep with at night on their long journey. They were well educated and community minded people. When arriving to Bethlehem, I am sure they were prepared enough to know that there would be no room at the inn, and decide to set up camp somplace close to the city walls and sleep in their tents and bed rolls. I find it ignorant and juvenile that anybody would believe a childrens story and keep perpetuating the image that a pregnant Mary and Joseph took off on a long journey on a mule, without even a pack mule for provisions, or a group of others traveling to the same city Bethlehem for thier census to travel as safety in numbers. It is ridiculous that anybody would assume that the image of Joseph and Mary alone on a mule is endearing, cute or inspirational to anybody. They look foolish, not being prepared for a long journey.

Interesting.

What was the approximate distance of the journey?

What would make you think they did not have any provisions? Also, Mary was pregnant..simply setting up a "camp" around the walls would not be sufficent enough for this matter.

As far as "no room at the inn", if someone was pregnant or you with someone who was, would this stop you from looking as they did not KNOW there was no room. Would this keep you from trying?

And as they DID keep on trying, someone DID tell them there was a place they could stay. And this is where they ended up staying.

To say that they were NOT prepared is the issue. They were prepared or they would not have set out.

You are basing this on what?

It's extremely simple ... you're simply a non-believer.
The whole Bible is all about God's miraculous power.
I.E. If God wants Mary and Joseph to get from point A to point B,
He has several choices: a Ferrari, a spaceship, a magic carpet, etc.
WHATEVER or WHOEVER He decides to use, it's done deal, baby.
A done deal.
This is one of the major points He was trying to get across.

Sorry, but you've been blessed with the dual blessings of
terrible teaching and the Holy Spirit not revealing anything to you.

But, now that I think about ... you must be pulling my leg, right?

I never once thought of them going with out food an all. Don't see why you thought that. Wonder who put that thought into you. There weren't any nice cushioned cars in those days. Even a woman to day could sit on a mule if need be. I don't like your attitude of calling Mary and Joseph ignorant.
