Is Jesus Christ a God?

Let’s try to see what The Holy Bible saying about it.
New International Version (NIV)
Matthew 4

8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’[e]”
Matthew 8

28 When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes,[c] two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. 29 “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?”
Matthew 10

32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.
Matthew 11

25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26 Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
Matthew 16

12 Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.

Matthew 18

19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.
Matthew 20

20 Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him. 21 “What is it you want?” he asked. She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.” 22 “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?” “We can,” they answered.
23 Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.” 24 When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers.
Matthew 25

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
Matthew 26

63 But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.” 64. “You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
Matthew 27

46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,[c] lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”)
Luke 23

46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”[e] When he had said this, he breathed his last.

Lets see what happened when Jesus Christ taken up to sky.

Luke 24

50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.
Acts 1

9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
Daniel 7

13 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man,[a] coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.
Revelation 5

1. Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. 2. And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” 3. But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. 4. I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. 5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
6. Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits[a] of God sent out into all the earth. 7. He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. 8. And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people.
Revelation 21

1 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”[a] for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
22. I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.

I hope after reading it you will agree with it that Lord Jesus Christ is Son of God he is not a God. So the denominations who say that Lord Jesus Christ is a God are heresiarch.

Hope to hear for your comments.

7Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

8I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
9I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
10I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,
11Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.
12And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; 13And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man

just thought this stuff was missing :)

there is one body, and one spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling.
one Lord,one faith,one baptism.
one God and father of all,who is above all,and through all,and in you all.
(Ephesians 4:4-6)

Now the Lord is that spirit:and where the spirit of the Lord is ,there is liberty.
(2 Corinthians 3:17)

And all things are of God ,who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation.
(2 Corinthians 5:18)

Jesus saith unto him,I am the way ,the truth and the life :no man cometh unto the Father, but by me .
if ye had known me ,ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him,and have seen him.
philip saith unto him,Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
(John 14:6-8)

Jesus saith unto him, have I been so long time with you,and yet hast thou not known me,philip?he that hath seen me hath seen the Father;and how sayest thou then, shew us the Father?
(John 14:9)

believest thou not that I am in the Father ,and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you,I speak not of myself :but the Father that dwelleth in me,he doeth the works.
(John 14:10)

I and my Father are one.
(John 10:30)

I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
(John 8:18)

I said therefore unto you ,that ye shall die in your sins:for if ye believe not that I am he ,ye shall die in your sins.
(John 8:24)

hereby perceive we the love of God,because he laid down his life for us:and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
(1 John 3:16)

behold, a virgin shall be with his child ,and shall bring fourth a son ,and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
(Matthew 1:23)

for unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given:and the government shall be upon his shoulders :and his name shall be called Wonderful ,Counseller,The Mighty God.The Everlasting Father,The Prince Of Peace.
(Isaiah 9:6)

NO Jesus is not A god.

But nonetheless, He is God.

The term God is a statement of nature, not a name. We are merely human, He is divine. He is of divine nature, deity. He is the Word who was God made flesh.

Yes Jesus said we are to only worship God, but then He himself accepted worship -- therefore, He is God.

Yet He is distinct in person from both the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Revelation 5

1. Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. 2.

Friend, John 1:1 says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The same was with God in the beginning." Before time began, the Word was with God. And the Word was God. The Word is the Lord Jesus Christ. He was with God the Father in the beginning. Also, "For there are three being witness in the heaven: the Father, the Logos (Word), and the Holy Spirit; and these Three are One." 1 John 5:7 ONT.
God is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).
God is One God in Three Persons.
God is God the Father.
God is God the Son, Jesus Christ.
God is God the Holy Spirit.
Yet these are not three gods, but One God.
In Three Persons.
Muslims don't believe this. But they say Muhammad is closer to God than any other Prophet.
Christians say the Prophet we are to follow is God the Son, Jesus Christ.

"NEW WORLD TRANSLATION of The Holy Scriptures"
from: Jehovah's Witnesses Official Web Site

John 1:1-51
1 In [the] beginning the Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god. 2 This one was in [the] beginning with God. 3 All things came into existence through him, and apart from him not even one thing came into existence.

Romeo:
we don't cotton to that teaching here (most of us).
you should reconsider.

Can I just say....Jesus is God.
Jesus is Lord, scriptures say can only be said by the Holy Spirit. Now there has been much debate over the years of rather or not God is Jesus is the Holy Spirit. The Trinity has some have claimed. Becareful and earnest in all things.

1) Did God the Father give all things into His Son's hands? Yes
2)Did Jesus bare witness and testify of His Father? Yes
3)Does the Holy Spirit indwell those that believe Jesus came from God? Yes

Praise Jesus! For He is truly or light in the darkness.

John 8: 28 So Jesus said, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me.

If you go back to the original Greek, you fill find that the translators added the pronoun "He" after I am.

The correct translation is "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am."

There you have it. Jesus says he is the "son of man" and God in the same sentence. Do you wish to call him a liar?

Jesus is God if you read First John. I believe the OP is missing study of First John. If you read it there is no more question.

I went ahead and checked the greek.

You are correct.

I have learnt something today.

Thanks Doc, I appreciate that. It's nice to return the favor every now and then, as I have learned a ton of things from you and zone, as well as a few others, in these last few weeks.

For He is truly or light in the darkness.
meant to Say Praise Jesus! For He is truly are light in the darkness.

Since you specifically asked for my response:

Timothy10 has already supplied every proof-text I was thinking of, although I'm sure there are more we haven't remembered yet.
The Bible is very clear: Jesus is God in the flesh (and by "flesh" I mean human body, not sin nature). You cannot be saved if you don't believe this; you cannot expect to enter heaven. The entire Gospel is based on Christ's ability to be the perfect atoning sacrifice to pay the debt of our sins. Only perfect God is able to to answer God's own just wrath against sin.

Be very, VERY careful to read Scripture in context. And take heed of 2 Peter 2:1. This is not a light matter.

One doesn't have to be a default indoctrinated three God-"persons" Trinitarian to know and understand that Jesus is God manifested in the flesh. He's not 1/3 of God, and "God the Father", "God the Son", nor "God the Holy Spirit" are biblically expressed. They are inferred just as Trinity is contrived and inferred. God is not "person(s)" of ANY quantity.

God embodied His Divine eternal substance in Jesus within the temporal. One God-"person" didn't send another God-"person". God didn't manifest one of His three selves in the flesh; God manifested His OWN self in the flesh.

You just have to be a Trinitarian.

"He's not 1/3 of God, and "God the Father", "God the Son", nor "God the Holy Spirit" are biblically expressed."

I think you mean "God the Son" nor "God the Spirit" are "biblically expressed. God the Father certainly is...if you deny that at least...then you better start looking through the New Testament again. It's at the beginning of every one of Paul's letters.

"They are inferred just as Trinity is contrived and inferred. God is not "person(s)" of ANY quantity."

What would be a better word for it?

God embodied His Divine eternal substance in Jesus within the temporal. One God-"person" didn't send another God-"person". God didn't manifest one of His three selves in the flesh; God manifested His OWN self in the flesh.

Well, the Father is said to have sent Jesus to do His will, to die on the cross...so a person *did* send a person.

And yes, God was manifest in the flesh.

Is Jesus Christ God?

Well, let's let Jesus answer this question for himself!

"...I am." (John 8:58)

Now wait, hold on, let's go back to that verse.
The whole verse is:

"Truly Truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am."

Wow! Wait, so He existed before Abraham was born?!?

Well, if we're going to let Him speak for Himself, then yes, He did.

"Now come on, let us reason this out. Jesus didn't *really* mean He existed then, wasn't really alive then. He was *alive* in the mind of God, however! It's so clear that the Word of God wasn't actually a person before being manifest in the flesh, but...an idea! Why won't you see this?"

Well, because I let God speak for Himself.

Let's take another look at this, shall we?

So, did any of the other New Testament writers have anything to say about this matter? Why, of course!

For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Now I desire to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that the Lord, after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe.
(Jude 4, 5)

For I want you to know, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ. Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did. Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play." We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day. We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer. Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come.
(1 Corinthians 10:1-11)

Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:5-11)

(It is interesting to note that this is in reference to Isaiah 45:23, which says:

I have sworn by Myself,
The word has gone forth from My mouth in righteousness
And will not turn back,
That to Me every knee will bow, every tongue will swear allegiance.)

I could put even more verses down here (look at the 1st chapter of Hebrews for another example), but I believe the Scriptures are well-sufficient to show that Jesus Christ is, indeed, God in the flesh. He pitched His tent among us (John 1:1-18), and we have seen His glory with the eyes of our heart, glory as of the only Son from the Father. Glory as of the only God.
