Please share your experiences with Bible Software and Tools that
you use and add to the list of those posted below.

* Does anyone have additional favorite tools or Bible Software Programs they use?
* Do you use these tools and Bible Software Programs in a unique or especially useful way?

Many are already users of such online Bible Software and tools such as:

* BIBLE GATEWAY
Link -->> BibleGateway.com: A searchable online Bible in over 100 versions and 50 languages.
* BLUE LETTER BIBLE
Link -->> Blue Letter Bible - Home Page
* STUDY LIGHT
Link -->> Online Bible Study Tools and Resources - StudyLight.org has the largest collection of Bible Study Resources on the internet!!
* BIBLE STUDY TOOLS
Link -->> Bible Study Tools Online ? Verses, Commentaries, Concordances, Verses, Parallel Versions

Some might be familiar with BIBLE SOFTWARE such as:

* LOGOS Bible Study - Link -->> Logos Bible Software - Bible Study has never been easier!
* E-SWORD - Link -->> e-Sword - the Sword of the LORD with an electronic edge
* THE WORD - Link -->> Bible Software theWord!
* QUICK VERSE - Link -->> QuickVerse

Bible software varies in complexity and depth, depending on the needs of users, just as
the purposes of the users vary from devotional reading and personal study to lesson and
sermon preparation, inspirational publishing and even further research tools and
translations.

History

Interest in using computers to quickly search the Bible and copy sections of the text
quickly into lessons and sermons emerged in the early 1980s. Bible software was much
faster than traditional study tools in a book forms. Early bible software was aimed simply
at word and phrase searches in different modern translations. Later, as computers
improved in handling foreign language fonts, the original Hebrew Old Testament and
Koine Greek New Testament texts of the Bible were added. When working with the original
biblical languages, one of the first capabilities was morphology or parsing, providing
information on the parts of speech of various words to assist in understanding the intent
of the text. At this point many bible software programs emerged which are still in
publication today.

Desktop Bible software

Windows (note - text adjacent to the '*' is a web link, scroll your cursor over the text)

* Bible Analyzer – A freeware Bible study and analysis application with Advanced
Searching, Bible Statistics, Parallel Text Generator, Text-To-Speech, Audio, and more.
Many free modules available with immediate download of premium modules. Highly rated
by Download.com

* e-Sword – The most popular free Bible software. Includes STEP Library compatibility
with a pane and tab system similar to Pradis;

* The Word – free comprehensive Bible study software with features including Bibles in
many languages, non-Bible study resources (including maps), rich cross-referencing
system, easy user-created and edited modules (with image support, comprehensive
hyperlinking, etc.), a "clipboard monitor" to display verse references, full library search
capabilities, extensive user preferences, importing modules from other formats, user
defined window layouts, and comprehensive copy and paste capabilities;

* Online Bible – Bible Software Package around since 1987. Huge library of material of
both English and other languages;

* WORDsearch – Offers a large library of English resources for free and for additional
purchase. Very intuitive interface. Greek, Hebrew and other languages are searchable.
* * Bible Explorer – Free, light version of WORDsearch.

* LOGOS Bible SoftwareLOGOS is known for advanced tools for Greek and Hebrew
studies and allows users to build a virtual library from a variety of publishers which work
together seamlessly. Dynamic linking ties works together to the same biblical text, even
as a user moves through the works. The system also provides topical linking; a user
accessing a different dictionary will find it already opened to the same topic they chose in
another work.
LOGOS packages include helps with harmonies, parallel passages, and even
offers such things as automatic citation of references

* QuickVerse – This was the first organization to utilize the STEP file format. It remains
the only software to exclusively use that file format;

* SwordSearcher – An inexpensive but simple bible study program. Includes mostly
public domain modules. Not suitable for original languages study.

This thread just makes me realize how spoiled we are as a generation with all of these tools at our disposal :D There should be no excuse for a Christian not knowing Scripture.

DiscipleWilliam is right... I have used some of those before Plus there are about three more I have used which are not on that list:
PC Study Bible,
Lightening Study Bible
Theophilus (the one am currently using with greek, hebrew and aramaic bibles with translators, video clips, 60 commentaries, over 20 bible translations and over 35 other books plus other features)
Illuminate - Illumina (one of the two spellings i've forgotten which one, i saved the best for last, this is an awesome software with everything your can want from a bible software, many audio and video clip animations, hundreds of books, commentaries, pictures. If you want something that has everything this is the software, unfortunately, its one of the few bible softwares I have never used :)
God bless

It's interesting... at least to me it's interesting... to note that most of the bible software out there is based around the SWORD project... it's open source bible software. So a lot of the stuff out there is pretty much different GUI's over the same backbone. Which is kinda cool. You find different functionality in different ones because different people had different takes on what should be in Bible software.

Kinda useless information to the end user, but I'm probably going to take advantage of that and make my own version.

One feature I have not seen in the Bible software I have looked at (I use E-Sword), is the
ability to set up a Bible Reading plan (E-sword does that) that reads the audio-bible and
that keeps track of your progress as you go along. This would seem to be an easy feature
to implement, of course, getting the Bible on Audio is the key. So, instead, I use
AUDIO-BIBLE to do just that. I use various reading plans from BibleGateway and some
customized ones, including the customization options (somewhat limited) on E-sword.

Recently Bible Gateway has added audio to it's Bible Options, which might be one source
of the audio bible. I don't know about licensing restrictions. Programs such as E-sword
are not-for-profit, so they may be a basis for an audio upgrade.

Here is the link to THE AUDIO-BIBLE:
Link -->> Audio-Bible Welcome Page -
Audio Bible, The King James Version narrated by Stephen Johnston on-line, free.

BIBLE GATEWAY READING PLANS:

Note
- there are more and better (varied) reading plans online that are theme based
(prophets, gospels, wisdom, pentateuch, chronological etc., etc.) but BibleGateway is a
good start.

Good references, thanks for sharing - Links below, some freeware, some not, prices vary:

Lightning Study Bible -
Link -->> Heaven Word, Inc. (some free, some $)
Theophilus -

ILumina -

For Product comparisons, many of the product sites have their own features list, some
compare theirs with others software, there are many reviews and survey/comparisons
online also. I find E-Sword to be satisfactory for my current use*, but some are saying
'The Word' may be creeping in as the best FREEware Bible Program, not sure yet.

Tell us more about HOW you use the software -- can you search Greek and Hebrew
words?

* Note: I purchased E-Sword many years ago (It's Free, online down-loadable). A simple
Donation of $15 however supports the development effort and gets you a nice CD with a
huge amount of support tools and references. It is also not copyrighted, and in fact you
are encouraged to copy it and share with others (telling them about the program-concept).

I use Logos bible software. I have the "bible Study" Package. I love it. You type in a passage, and it brings up links to every commentary you have in your package on that subject. it also brings up the greek-english text or Hebrew-English text with reference to each language tool you have at a click of the button. You also can do a side to side bible version comparison, and many other things. It is pricey, but worth the price.

A nice informative thread...

I've used different Bible study software over the years, but have found those from Biblesoft to be the most useful, have used versions 2,3,4 and currently using 5 Advanced...not free or cheap, but really very good...
