I really dislike this saying. I mean, what's it supposed to mean anyway? That God won't give you anything that will kill you? Or that He won't give you anything so hard as to make you lose faith? Or that he will give you peace in all things?

Can someone tell me the scripture that this is based on? I know there is one, but I can't remember which one it is. Thanks.

I don't like it, but for a whole other reason. Sometimes people get messed up in the head, they don't get stronger. Somethings scar people for the rest of their life and they never get better, much less stronger.

It's just an old saying, What ever doesn't kill you makes you stronger is not based on scripture at all or is it a scripture. It just simply means if we survie the hard times we are stronger because we can comfort someone else through what they are struggling with that is all.

I remembered in college a philospher saying it cam from Friedrich Nietszche...an atheist for most/if not all of his life...and I checked online...and yes, it comes from him...

But anyway, it can be used as said before to support perserverance...

God bless

What doesnt kill ya only makes ya stronger...one of my favorite people here in cc says that all the time . It means when we get thru the hard times we become better people , we learn from past experiences.

Eek, I wrote the wrong saying! The saying that bugs me is actually, "God will not give you more than you can handle."

What was I thinking when I typed that? Now I've totally confused things. Can we delete this thread? ;)

God does not give you more than you can handle actually does come from the Bible...I believe it would have been a translation of the verse that says that God does not tempt you beyond what you can bear, but with the temptation he always makes a way out...so that you can stand up under it...

Basically directly from the Bible...
