Col4:14Luke the beloved Physician
Luke1:3It seemed good to me also having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus
Luke was not an apostle and his gospel was written from information gathered from reliable sources under direction of the Holy Spirit.Luke gathered info from original apostles and Jerusalem Christians
and from Christs mother and brothers.
He was also writer of Acts

I learned about this in my New Testament class...but for the life of me I can't remember what the proof is. But I do know that it WAS Luke.

Dear still_waters, What evidence do YOU have that St. Luke the Physician and Evangelist did NOT write the Gospel of St. Luke? Do you just accept on faith that Luke did not write the Gospel of Luke? If he didn't, then who did?
In Erie PA Scott R. Harrington PS Why would anyone even begin to doubt that Matthew wrote Matthew, Mark wrote Mark, Luke wrote Luke and Acts, John wrote John, 1,2,3 John, and Revelation, James wrote James, Jude wrote Jude, Peter wrote 1,2 Peter, and Paul wrote all the rest of the NT?
It's stupid to doubt the authorship of any book of the Bible, and, if we don't know the exact author, we know the Inspirer is God, which is really all we need to know in any case.
We just need to believe the 76 books of the Bible are the written Word of God.

Golly. I haven't said he didn't. I'm just interested in people's reasons for or not for believing he did or didn't write it.

If someone asked me for a reason why I thought he wrote it, I honestly couldn't give any substantial evidence, so I'm wondering if others can. Cuz I needs me sum dat edooca shun two.

Dear ones:

The Bible does not say "Mr. Luke, a physician from the good ol' town of Antioch, converted to the most holy faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; therefore, he wrote the gospel accounts according to Luke to his most excellent buddy, Theophilus."
------------------------------------------------------------------
The Bible does say that Luke met up with Paul in Troas sometime during Paul's 1st or 2nd journey (Acts 16). Luke then joins Mark, Demas, Aristarchus, Epaphras, Tychicus and others traveling with Paul continuosly (Colossians 4 & Acts 27-28), yet at the end of Paul's journeys, Paul is taken prisoner in Rome, and only Luke remains from the traveling team (2Tim.4:11).

The relevance here is that the writer of the Book of Acts of the Apostles in addressing "Theophilus," (Acts 1)includes himself in the story, for example, "We sailed from Philippi after the days of Unleavened Bread" (Acts 20).

In other words, "most excellent Theophilus" (Luke 1) gets to hear about the gospel of the Lord Jesus as well as the Acts of the Apostles well into the very end of Paul's missionary work. Therefore, the conclusion is that Luke is the most likely to have written the Gospel According to Luke & the Book of Acts since he (& John) are among the last to survive Roman persecusion.

Does all valid faith require evidence for everything it believes? What evidence do we have that all true faith has evidence to support it? "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1 KJV St. Paul. Faith is the evidence. Faith doesn't require evidence. Does it?
But faith will be accompanied by evidence, because it is true faith. God will give the proof to each believer.
Who wrote the Gospel of Luke? How about this, "But avoid foolish questions...". Titus 3:9 KJV.
God bless you.

Me thinks thou doest protest too much. Ironic on the 'protest' part. :)

God breathed inspired Word of God
no evidence needed to back it up other than it is written all scripture is just that
who cares who put the pen to paper, if we give man credit we just acknowledge plagerism per se thinking they got all the inspiration themselves in writing it
pretty simple no?? lolz

it is scripture after all isnt it not just a story
